I hope it is not as big as scandal as in the bike sport. Tour de France you barely can watch anymore because you almost always can be sure that some of them are doping. Would be a pity if the same would be true for football.

I agree, but I'm not sure that we mean the same thing.

A governing body motivated chiefly by the fear of scandal doesn't bother looking (properly) in the first place.

You are the Grand Poobah of the ATP, or NFL, or the PGA, or the Premier League (to pick four examples entirely at random....). You get paid fabulous sums of money, mostly contingent on corporate sponsorships and TV deals. You ascended to your exalted throne off the back of years of politicking, graft, back-scratching, back-stabbing. You have quite a lot of power but by its very nature your position is somewhat insecure, and thus the horizon of your thought process is never too distant. You look at sports such as cycling and athletics and baseball, which have become (quite correctly) shorthand for malfeasance and pharmacologically orientated cheating.

Do you want pick up that rock and find out what's festering under the surface of your own apparently pristine flower bed? Have that shit bomb explode on your watch, all over your expensively tailored suit? When in 4 or 5 years time you'll be seguing into a well compensated sinecure at the IOC; or moving onto the next stop on your CEO merry-go-round; or relaxing into the semi-retirement of 5 and 6 figure speaking engagements about inspirational leadership, and similar do-nothing consultancies for other overpaid swindlers, as you so richly deserve, for all your years of honourable service?

So yes, call me a cynic, but I imagine that the TPTB are quite keen to ensure that their personal bailiwick remains unmarred.
