The American Dream Dusty Rhodes has died, he was 69.

Sad news indeed. He didn't have the look but by god he could talk the talk, and work very hard at everything he did.

RIP Dream.

Very sad news indeed, he was so entertaining back in the day. Fantastic on the mic.

Very Very sad, never seen much of his best work as it was in NWA at the time and not WWE, but he was of course around in WWE when I first started watching wrestling and he was one of the few faces I enjoyed watching, his promo style was just so unique and different.

plus he for me still has the best ever commentary line, even over the 'isn't fair to flair' or 'he may be broken in half' stuff

His line when Sting came down the rafters for first time to attack NWO...'All hell has broken loose here at Uncensored.......and hell brought with him a baseball bat'

I just loved that line.

This is a man who could wrestle, he wasn't successful in the WWE because he basically didn't have the look, but as Big Dave just said, he did some amazing things in his time in the NWA and I encourage anyone to check our Starrcade 1985 when it was Rhodes and Flair for the title - matches like this will never happen again, amazing psychology and just a brilliant way to tell a story in the ring.

from all accounts he wasn't successful in WWE in the 80's because Vince did his usual thing (He even does thesedays) of bringing in a star elsewhere and usually trying to make them look a complete mug so the WWE built people looked better. (only really Flair got the full on treatment)

I think it said a lot about Rhodes that he was given a f*cking horrendous character, a horrendous outfit of yellow poka dots, a horrible gimmick and yet because in his couple of years the 3rd-4th most popular face in WWE after Hogan, Warrior and maybe Hacksaw (no savage as he was heel then)

RIP Dusty Rhodes

For old times sake I watched the 'Hard Times' promo from Dusty Rhodes from 1985 last night. Still one of the best promos of all time. He had an extraordinary grasp on wrestling and how it should work, the common man was the perfect foe for the stylin' and profilin' Ric Flair.

I would hope that at MITB they let Cody Rhodes escape from the Stardust gimmick and have a killer 15 minute match with someone (ideally Goldust but I've heard he's injured). More than anything now, I want Cody Rhodes to get a really strong push in honor of his dad.

Yeah Hogan haha. Dusty could have been bigger than Hogan without a doubt. Dusty had that real mans look about him didn't he? Yes he was never going to be in the best of shape (looks wise) but when he spoke everyone listened. Plus I agree about the yellow polka dot thing, he still made it his own.

I just hope they now through this stupid Stardust gimmick away and bring Cody back properly and give him the push he deserves.

Should this be a genuine reason someone be pushed? We all know he is talented but it shouldn't take the death of his father for a push.

i've always said Cody Rhodes is far far too talented to be floundering in mid card with nothing to do. i would probably think that if they didn't acknowledge or even do something with the Rhodes Brothers in light of whats happened, then it just be bad business. However they pushed Mysterio to the moon after Eddie's death so they've done it before.

I know it is the done thing but I agree that this should be the moment where we see the end of stardust, because It is a joke anyway, and we do see Cody Rhodes. He has so much talent, I still don't buy in to him as a main eventer but I think give him 20 minutes and he will put on a good match each and every time.

I don't see Cody main eventing but he's certainly good enough to be in the upper mid card on a consistent basis, he's as good as, if not better than Ziggler and we all know he's got his spot.

yeah if you want to push the IC Title as a 'working mans belt' with the likes of Bryan and Ziggler fighting over it, i'd love to see a push for Cody Rhodes so that he can win the belt and defend it with honor. they dropped the ball MASSIVELY giving the IC Title to frickin Ryback.

I don't mind Ryback as Champion as long as they end up passing it to Bray Wyatt in a few months. Ryback is in a bit of a limbo really, he's not quite main event level, and probably doesn't have that star power to elevate the IC Title. I just assume they're sticking to the plans they had for Bryan, which would have been a 4/5 month face reign with the title before it gets moved on.

I quite liked the fact Ryback has been given the title, he was red hot when he was going for the WWE World title last year or the year before, they put him in a stupid tag team with Curtis Axel, now he seems to have regained what he had before. I think Ryback holding on to the title for a long period can only do him and the title good. I do believe though, Cody Rhodes has always been more impactful as part of a tag team.

i just would have prefered the IC Title as like a workhorse title, something for the smaller guys like Bryan, Ziggler, Rhodes etc can go for and make a division full of awesome matches. With Ryback winning the belt we're going to get pretty pedestrian matches, especially with this horrible feud with Big Show that we're entrenched in. Considering the World Title is where it is, and Johnny Boy won't be losing the US Title for a good long while yet, i think they did drop the IC Title ball a bit.

Absolutely gutted to hear this. He was truly something special, and one of the all time mic guys.

Rather than reflect on his character, or time as a wrestler. I think a far more touching tribute is to look at the response of the NxT stars. hunter gets a lot of credit, but the show we all love is mourning the loss of their mentor. My phone isn't pasting them correctly, but just search twiter for dusty. kevin Owens knew him for months, but his tweet was gut wrenching. Summer Rae, Cody graves, sasha banks, Tyson Kidd. The list goes on.

For the next decade, we will get to enjoy the 'class of dusty'. Dream will live on for a while yet

The Tyson Kidd one was hard, especially when you consider the first person to call him after surgery wasn't Trips, it was Dusty, then a few days later he's gone.
