I saw this on Facebook, and I thought it could strike a decent debate.

Imagine this: Man City in the UCL final vs Guardiola's Bayern

What wins: ego or professionalism

Discuss

EDIT: This is all assuming City don't make top 4, and before anyone say's "City won't make the UCL final" remember this is all hypothetical

I don't get the 'ego' choice. Is Pep egotistical for not winning the CL? That doesn't make any sense.

Basically

Pep will manage City next season, will he want to be professional and win the UCL with Bayern, keeping City out of the CL for next season (this assuming City stay out of top 4) or will his ego want to stay in the CL and lose for the sake of the UCL next season?

I will edit the opening post to correct my error, but yeah that's basically what I meant.

But surely his ego would prefer to win the CL? Losing it and being deemed a failure at Bayern doesn't sound much of an ego booster.

Stupidity I'd say. There's no way he'd throw the game just to play in a competition.

It all depends on the patience of Guardiola really. I don't know how much patience the man has but he's only ever managed top class teams to be fair.

Its certainly an interesting scenario, but I also say that Bayern would win. Its not always down to the manager, the players want to win it as well and Bayern is a better team than City by far.

Well that'll change when he joins City. He'll be backed with a lot of money if City only have him for three years. He'll have the resources, the time might be questionable.

No doubt.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
If he threw the game it would have to look pretty obvious because they are so much better than City at the moment (although that said, City have won three out of the six meetings I think)

But if he wanted to be absolutely sure, then he'd have to make some sort of really bizarre team selections or tactical decisions that would stick out like a sore thumb. He'd be labelled a match fixer for the rest of his life!

If that happened and City did finish fifth as well as making the final, he'd not only have to go all out to win the game, but make it look clear that he was doing just in case City did pull off a shock.

If he had ego he'd just win it with Bayern and expect to win it with Man City at the first opportunity, which'd just be another season away.

Well, if it's going to happen, it'll be in the final.
