Hard to judge that game. I don't think we played that well, 2nd half was a complete non-event. Panama caused us more problems than Tunisia, even if they never had the quality to make a game of it.

People lauding over Kane, he scored 2 penalties(good ones I might add) and his 3rd just hit him. Not ready to proclaim him our lord and saviour just yet. Sterling missed a sitter before the 4th and still can't his a barn door it looks like. RLC was decent I thought, not sure about him out wide, but he did well. Henderson looked better, against weaker opposition. Defence had some ropey moments, but they were untroubled. They'll have to be sharp against Lukaku, De Bruyne and co.

Concern for me is that we go into the Belgium game not really prepared. We'll be fresh and relatively injury free, which is good. But will the sudden jump in quality catch us out perhaps?

All in all though, we just needed to win today and they did it in style. Lingard's goal, set pieces, took the chances when they came along, which is good. Confidence is high going into the last game and the last 16.

Kane has had four opportunities and scored five goals. Might not be Lord and saviour but he is our only irreplaceable player.

This result is a Sample without value. Panama were just too weak.

I am not a friend of having easy groups. You need to be tested before the ko stage kicks off to know where are your weak points. In the knockout its too late.

How often teams were cruising through the group Stage and the first half decent Opponent sent them home

Huge concern for England is that aside from two penalties and a deflected goal, they only managed three. Meanwhile Panama scored one, Torres went close and then almost scored a stunning overhead kick.

This could easily have been 3-3, and spelled disaster for another lost England generation.

It's not a game you can draw too much from.

But it was good fun! We're in a World Cup, have qualified for the knockouts with two wins from two. One of which was a stoppage time winner, and the other we've banged 6 in for one afternoon.

I'm happy! Can't say we're not enjoying ourselves.

Huge? that’s a very Welsh way to look at a 6-1 win!

Happy with that, didn’t get out of 2nd gear, well rested, huge confidence, conceded showing we still have something to work on defensively.

Belgium will be good to wrap up the group with a tougher opposition

Scored 6 goals against a very poor team and Sterling still didn't have any influence on the game the useless c***, time to get Rashford in the team for good and leave Sterling well away.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
Always good to batter someone. Shame they couldn’t up the intensity in the second half to get the extra goal to top the group.

Fun fact: John Stones now has more World Cup finals goals than Wayne Rooney.

Apart from the assist for Lingard and Stones scoring from the rebound from his header?

It’s a shame we were 5 up at half time because it stopped people moaning about how England should be better.

I would have scored that goal with my bellend they shouldn't have been no rebound in the first place and to call that 1 yard pass as an assist is laughable, he just happened to be in the right place at the right time anybody could have done that.

Smashing a team we should smash on the big stage is progress. It won't mean much when we're playing the likes of Belgium but scoring six is only going to keep our confidence going.

He wasn't that bad, his movement brought others into play and he was unlucky not to score. I don't reckon he'll start against Belgium though. I'd start Vardy, they play a high line and playing Vardy off shoulder, exploiting the space behind would be perfect.

History in the making?

The last World Cup match that was 5-0 at half time: 2014: Germany vs Brazil (ended 7-1). And only once we had a higher half time score: 1974 Yugoslavia vs Zaire 6-0 (ended 9-0).

So, it's coming home, eh?

Nah, no historic result. But at least 'arry scored a few.

Show some mercy, England

Thanks, your Eddie van Halen

Panama, Panama, Panama, Panama

Thanks again, England for showing mercy and letting "my" Panama scoring its first ever goal in a World Cup
Eddie

edit: OMG, I am talking to myself. Does that happen when I watch actually England matches. I should stop it asap ;)

Anyway, congrats for reaching the knockout stages again. You know the drill....

Easy win against poor opponents but we never really got out of first gear either.

Had the referee been the referee on Monday we’d had ended up tanning Tunisia too!

A 6-1 win against any side in a finals is a great result so can’t be negative that it was only Panama for example. We’ve laboured to results against the likes of Trinidad before so it’s pleasing.

We look good going forward, Kane is world class and that’s showing, we do look to have a bit of a frailty at the back though which we need to eradicate.

We’ve been as good as anyone this tournament so far so can be positive and let’s see where it takes but, regardless of how far we go I’m at least seeing a positive future for England with this young squad and the superb youth sides we’ve currently got which is better that I felt two years or even four years ago.

This side should get better over the coming years as it matures so hopefully we can get through to the m quarters or semis if the draw is kind (I.e we finish second) and we will be in a good place heading into Euro 2020.

Job done first half - again a strong attacking display against such a physical side.

Eased off 2nd half and they looked half decent when actually playing some football.

Southgate won't be thinking who we might can - just be going for a win I suspect.

I'm with you, we've seen England struggle to scrappy one-goal victories against teams like these far too often to not enjoy it when we finally give someone a good seeing to.

Dont forget we’ve drawn 0-0 with Algeria before. As a country we have improved. It doesn’t mean we’ll win anything though.

Very impressive win. Those who believe in this side won’t have been surprised by that result, there’s huge promise and ability in that lineup and could’ve been similar vs Tunisia had we been more ruthless. Of course having said that, we didn’t expect it to be 5-0 at half time. Feels nice to sit through a second half completely relaxed, never happens with England. Impressed with that free kick routine, showing some nice creativity and invention. Lingard was outstanding, causing them all kinds of problems and that strike was something else. Disappointing and sloppy conceding that goal, but their heads were elsewhere after half time as expected, the Panama player took it well though. Feel Sterling still needs to show more. Everyone else is playing at quite a high level and he’s still below that for me. Loftus Cheek played well too, showing lots of power and good ball control. Hope Trippier’s injury isn’t too bad, that would be a blow.

Kane doesn’t even need to try and he still scores goals..

Oh we don't feel sorry for ourselves Pags, we accepted the dross our national team has been - and will continue to be - a long time ago and are at peace with it.

Still enjoyable watching England falter every tournament though. :)
