The rules

  • There are 6 teams and each team has 6 members.
  • There are two types of round:
Advantage rounds (winning points to help put yourself in the best position for the game round)
and
Game rounds - (chance to score actual game points for your team towards your overall total)

Advantage rounds will be things like quizzes and games all relating to football (past and present). The higher you finish in an advantage round, the better advantage you get for the game round.
Game rounds will be predicting, betting and selecting relating to Euro 2016 which is where you'll score actual points counting towards your overall total.

Hopefully that makes sense. Advantage rounds obviously happen before the game rounds. I'll spoiler tag the proposed dates for each advantage and game round below (subject to change)

Advantage rounds

Round 1: 6th/7th June

Round 2: 12th June

Round 3: 16th June

Round 4: 23rd June

Round 5: 28th June

Round 6: 4th July

Game rounds

Round 1: 8th/9th June (1st matchday)

Round 2: 13th/14th June (2nd matchday)

Round 3: 17th/18th June (3rd matchday)

Round 4: 24th June (round of 16)

Round 5: 29th June (quarter finals)

Round 6: 5th July (semi finals and final)

Teams
Each of the 6 teams has a randomly drawn captain. I've already randomly drawn these and they have selected their team name already:

IanH - Team Gullit
Cheese and Biscuits - Team Olsen
G-Dragon - Team Deschamps
Epic73 - Team Casillas
Craig - Team Klinsmann (changed from Beckenbauer on request)
Krazy8 - Team Zakorikis

I have divided the rest of you up into 5 seeding pots (I've tried to do this based on what I know regarding your activity on the forum but I don't know all of you well so don't be offended). These 5 pots will be sent over to the captains later and they will have to order the members in each one from 'most want' to 'least want'. The groups will then be decided based on their choices.

The captains can breathe easy because this is really the only function a captain has in this game. You are all equals.

Also, I know 1 or 2 of you wanted to team back up with people. But this stems from being in new teams on previous occasions. Whoever you're with, you'll work together and realise that you all have strengths and you'll form beautiful relationships with eachother (awwwww). But yeah, I think it's a good way for new people to get involved as well. So yeah, I know whoever you're with, you'll all strive to win.

I will be enforcing an inactivity rule whereby those who are just not contributing whatsoever will be kicked out. Hopefully this won't have to be used though and if it does, it'll only be for literally no contributions.

So what next?
Tonight, the captains will choose their teams. I will reveal these choices Thursday evening and get your team PMs under way.

We'll also have a little game in your teams before the first advantage round to get you used to the format and playing together in your PMs. There will be some added bonus to this game as well to give you all an incentive.

In terms of live and not live games, all of the game rounds you'll be able to do in your PMs with no specific times you need to be on. Some advantage rounds are live and others aren't so hopefully there's a balance for everybody there.

Hope you're all looking forward to this. It's going to be fast paced because the Euros only lasts for a month but hopefully that will work to our advantage. I've also made the scoring system not too winner heavy so that it will keep all teams fighting to the end (hopefully).

There is also 1 sign up spot left although Techno Natch has said he will take it if nobody else signs up by the 6pm deadline tonight. Then captains will be messaged later and teams will be revealed tomorrow! So yeah, buckle up! :woo:

TREASURE!!!

Quote me in your PM!!

Teams

Team Gullit - IanH, JoshBCFC, Smudge, Ciderhead, Hodge, Last Request

Team Olsen - Cheese & Biscuits, Aberstone, mistermagic, Murphy, SteveNCC, Dave

Team Deschamps - G-Dragon, Abertawe, Hurrikeen, Who Needs Mourinho, Magpiebee, Super Horns

Team Casillas - epic73, mente captus, cufc17, Oaf, Hand of Dom, PaulHaddock

Team Klinsmann - Craig, Aber Gas, MJA, Richard Cranium, JJH, Spirederman

Team Zagorakis - Krazy8, MossyPNE, EricSabin, Don Tonberry, Magic, Sutss

Overall table - week 6/6

1) Team Zagorakis - 31
2) Team Gullit - 24
3) Team Olsen - 17
3) Team Casillas - 17
5) Team Deschamps - 16
6) Team Klinsmann - 4

Zagorakis
Excellent effort from these lads. They weren't the most talkative but they said what needed to be said and got things done, especially with the advantage tasks. As I said earlier, Magic nailed several of the knowledge tasks and was supported very well by Krazy8 and Don Tonberry in particular.

MVP - Magic (never a pot 2 guy again!)

Gullit

A very solid team. Definitely one of the most active with Last Request and Ciderhead leading the charge. Hodge and IanH also contributed well. Very unlucky not to win really. They just had too many 2nd/3rd place finishes rather than winning and the double points week summed it up. So close, yet not quite close enough.

MVP - Last Request (followed very closely by Ciderhead)

Olsen
At one point, I thought Olsen were going to win. They had a terrible week 1 (when Dave was away) but his return seemed to spark them into life with C&B, Murphy and Steve all contributing heavily. Week 2-4 they were superb. Then the double points week really buggered them and despite winning the advantage task for week 6, they underperformed on the game week (no thanks to Murphy). Another team who were close but just slipped at some vital moments.

MVP - Dave

Casillas
A funny team. They never really threatened a victory but were never terrible either. I think some of their members were let down a bit as I thought Paul Haddock and cufc17 played excellently. Oaf's absences were ashame and Epic wasn't too active whilst HOD seemed to focus more at times on Wars than this, despite popping up with some good input in some rounds. They seemed to pick up more towards the end but a lot of 3rd and 4th placed finishes meant that this was where they ended up.

MVP - PaulHaddock or cufc17

Deschamps

Fair play to Deschamps. Most teams would have quit after their opening 3 rounds, but they stuck at it and were probably the best performing team with Zagorakis in the 2nd half of the game. Mind you, they had some very inactive players which was ashame, so even more credit to G Dragon, Super Horns and Natch when he joined the team as well. If they'd have had 1-2 more active players early on, I think they could have gone close.

MVP - Gdragon for carrying the fight early on when few else would (although Horns excelled more in the 2nd half)

Klinsmann
I felt really sorry here for Aber Gas and MJA. Both of whom gave this a real go and kept going to the end. I initially picked Klinsmann as my winners because it looked a very active team with some real forum game experience. However, I'm sure it was unavoidable, such is real life, but Spirederman, JJH and Craig, all of whom I thought would be integral to Klinsmann, didn't play nearly as much as was needed. Ashame, but that's the way it goes sometimes.

MVP - Aber or MJA for persistence.

FINALLY

A big thank you to everybody for playing. I've really enjoyed running this and it was made good by a fairly decent activity rate. Most teams had 3-4 active players which was great. I think Paul commented on miltary timing, and yeah, I have to be organised if I do something like this, it's the teacher in me.

Also, a big thank you to Veggie Legs, who didn't get many chances to intercept such is my military nature but developed several very handy spreadsheets to help the running of the game. He also filled in for me when I wasn't around so thank you for that.

Looking forward to this, although it's thrown up some poor captains to be fair

Yes, there is one spot left and Natch only wanted to be included if nobody else signed up, so you're in. If you don't take part however now, you will get a serious internet slap

Deadline for captains to reply is 3pm tomorrow. I've had 4 replies. Still waiting on two before I can sift through. Any captains who haven't replied by then will randomly be assigned whoever is left.

Welcome to the draft for the Euro 2016 Grandstand competition.

Throughout the day I will be announcing slowly who is in which team. The captains were each PM'ed 5 seeding pots of 6 members each. They had to rank each pot from most want to least want. Thankfully, nearly all of the picks have been from somebody in their top 3 each time so they should be happy with their teams. So let's get cracking.

Here are the teams:

Team Gullit - IanH

Team Olsen - Cheese & Biscuits

Team Deschamps - G-Dragon

Team Casillas - epic73

Team Klinsmann - Craig

Team Zagorakis - Krazy8

The first pot to be sorted out is pot 5 containing (don't be offended)

Abertawe
JoshBCFC
mossypne
mente captus
Aberstone
Aber gas

Where will they end up?
