First visit to Newport, otherwise I might not have been stirred to make the trip - which seems to be the attitude of many of our faithful band. Most of us had turned our thoughts to next season many matches ago but the team/manager still have at least half an eye on getting results to keep the season alive a bit longer.

Similar side and approach to Accrington seems likely, with the only questions being who to put on the right and centre of the 3 in a 4231 for the first half and thus who to come on when/if we move to 442 in the second half. I'd be happy to see more of Ismael against a lesser team - but that would probably put Williamson/Spencer or Dunk on the bench and lessen our threat going forward. Derry will play Spencer or Ismael ahead of Simpson but my best side would be:

Norris
Furlong, Legge, Coulson, Haynes
Ledson, Dunne
Berry, Simpson, Dunk
Williamson.

Clark, Spencer and Ismael to come on in the second half, although Horne deserves a run.

Exiles seem to have less to play for (although only 3 are contracted for next season) but could do with ending a disappointing run. Lenell John-Lewis among others (Rodman is another Grimsby connection) will revive memories of the Conference. An away win is needed or the season will fizzle out - and I can see us getting a goal or two. 1-2 in front of 2,036 (156 travelling U's - our lowest Saturday travelling support for the season. We only had 123 at Exeter on a Weds).

Yep I'd prefer Spencer to start and Simpson from the bench. Front for of:

Williamson Berry Dunk
Spencer

Otherwise the same team my fellow Habbinite put up.

I'm not going as it's miles away and we're taking the opportunity to see my wife's team, Norwich, at Palace today. Went to Carrow Toad for their 3-2 win over Newcastle last weekend too so hoping for a similar game today as that was nuts.

I'm not going either - way too far for a nothing game.

Newport have lost 4 on the spin and haven't scored a goal for 6 months (or something similar). Everything points to a Welsh win.

When are the fixtures out?

Never in doubt. How do you think we'll do in league 1 next year?

Well we're humongous compared to Burton, so I expect us to win the league by at least 30 points.

Might as well fast track us straight to the Championship to be honest.

How did we play? Worth the win or not?

Think we were probably slightly better but not a lot in it, 0-0 would've been the fairest result. Utterly awful game of football.

Easier trip than I anticipated - 3 hrs each way (190 miles) on easy roads. I'm sure everyone realises by now that Plymouth or Carlisle away in the play-offs were long gone so just two trips to Notts to finish the season.

Even with Corr back and a bit more strength in depth, I think we are getting a flavour of what away trips will be like if we are going to be successful next season. I'm beginning to understand Derry's focus on fitness since he arrived and yesterday's approach/performance captured the Derry way - staying in the game then upping the forward intent from around 60 minutes. Once we've got better/stronger options to lead the line for at least part of the match, it should suit L2 - provided we get a significant improvement in home form and consistency.

The pitch played far better than I expected after all the build up (2 rugby teams use it). It was damp enough not to be dry and bobbly but dry and firm enough not to bog down. However, it (and the goal) clearly sapped the legs of the County players, who seemed to tire whilst we were chasing, pressing and blocking to the 95th minute. Interesting to see Clark able to drop into left back, even though the opposition was modest and he had Dunk in front him. We found plenty of room in the midfield in the second half and I think our current back 4 and keeper are in their element when teams opt to by pass the midfield and lump it forward from halfway, rather than get down the side and deliver crosses.

It was similar to Accrington, without the equaliser. Although 0-0 or 1-1 might have been a fair result, I think we probably earned 4 points over the 2 matches and Spencer did hit the post, whilst Newport's finishing and most final balls were pretty dire.
