Suggestion that the ref was aware and thought it was a concussion sub
I read as per mentioned with the confusion I had on the rules with Vale making 4 in the league game... if one has a concussion the other clubs hand over a card which then allows this to be a concussion sub and is given to the opposition so they get the same sub.

Weird to be subbed off after a break with concussion and not during the game, no? Seems more tactical than anything

Maybe the case in this instance, assuming none of the other 5 were concussion related.

The irony is even Taylor said in his interview after he hates the 5 sub rule and wants it gone
Yes -- But he did'nt say which way he wanted it to go ?

Be interesting to see if the committee say we're at fault or the officials for allowing us to make an illegal sub. They're the ones who should know the rules, right?
Everyone should - seems a bit of a mess all round !

Someone has lost count somewhere or not concentrating.

I’d rather Exeter just go through than god forbid a reply, that’s punishing both teams.

"All substituted players and substitutes are subject to the referee’s authority whether they play or not."

The rules also state "where the club satisfies the Professional Game Board that the club (or any of its officers) did not know and could not reasonably have known, even had it made every reasonable enquiry (with the exercise of the utmost caution), that the player was ineligible, the club shall not be removed from the competition but may still be subject to any other penalty (e.g. fine, ordered to replay the match)."

That Ryan Sparks guy at Bradford will be all over this if there is even a sniff that they could get through, and he will probably ask for an extra 3 league points too just got good measure.

Does Lee Angol's red card not matter then if the game is null and void?

According to a guy on exeweb (the last bastion of journalistic truth) "the referee gave the teams incorrect information as how the substitute system would work."

Shambles if true, but nothing less than I would expect from that clown.

Shambles, but the clubs get the competition rules the same as the officials.

EDIT: Just seen all 6 subs were in the 90 minutes with one right at the end.

You’d think someone would pipe up before the re-start surely ?

Tiny fine and a slap on the wrist and we can all move on. That's what I reckon will happen anyway. Can't see them forcing another replay or kicking Exeter out.

Impossible the more I read to see any defence to this, but I can’t see the FA or whoever having the bottle to kick Exeter out, as Cas says a fine the most likely outcome.

Just catching up on all this again as I've been with the little one this evening. Copied from Exeweb..

Reading Devon Live (yes, I know........), but the claim is that our management/coaching team asked the officials on a number of occasions, how many subs could we put on and they (i paraphrase) apparently authorised our actions!

I note the article also says this

"The Bantams made five changes, but Caolan Lavery had undergone an extensive warm-up and appeared ready to enter the field of play at one stage during extra-time on Tuesday night, but ultimately failed to be brought on. DevonLive has been told by an Exeter City source saying that this was because the officials allegedly had informed Bradford that a sixth sub would against the rules.

It is also understood that Exeter City had been given more than five ‘cards’ to use and hand-in to the officials when they wish to make a substitution."

Which gives you a further impression that the officials told both sides prior that 6 subs were permitted, as Bradford thought the same - Only for the officials to later change their mind. An officiating all-mighty fuck up it seems.

Bradford also made 5 separate substitutions which is the maximum allowed, so maybe that's why Lavery wasn't allowed on, and he wasn't stopped because it was actually their 6th sub?
