I said before the draw I didn’t care who we got, the fact we’re in the FA Cup Quarter Fucking Finals is more than enough for me.

Feel quite emotional about it, it’s probably the hangover but we’ll probably never see the like in our lifetimes. History made yet again from these players, they always, always turn up for big occasions.

Onto Brighton…
Gavin always turns up, Even when he gets things wrong he does not hide.

Too popular for his manager at the time, So he got shot.
Our loss, Grimsbys gain, .

Just got in after the drive home from hell after road closures everywhere, don’t give a fuck though, so worth it.
What those boys have achieved there this club will never do again so fantastic that I was there to witness it with my lad and a load of his mates.
When I was their age I was spoilt with Championship football but they have only known National League or League 2 but they go every week up and down the country following GTFC passionately and I’m so pleased for them that they got to witness that last night.
Nights like that make all the years and years of utter shite worth it.
Up the History making mariners.
Top post mate. You're absolutely right about the youngers, I've got massive respect for the fans in their teens and twenties that have only really known shit Fenty era Town up until last season. I'd like to think that I'd be the same but if I'd not had that night at Anfield or days at Wembley or seen us play for most of the 90s in the second tier then who knows if I'd have been there last night. Having said that. I've certainly been to my fair of shit games to be able to fully appreciate nights like last night too.
Not saying this to take anything away from Grimsby who have done brilliant, I’ll always back a lower league side in these cases(exceptions chesterfield, Salford etc) but christ Southampton are a pathetic excuse of a premier league side.

Who do you lot want next then? Old Trafford surely? Get that £££. Edit just seen - Brighton away, could be worse I suppose!
Oh yeah, fully get what you're saying. Southampton were woeful really considering how many league positions above us they are and considering the cost of their squad. The fact that it still took a massive slice of VAR or four for us to do that just outlines the gulf really when you consider that this is the worst team in the division.
that’s the problem, it’s easily the worst tie they could’ve got given they’re all on tv.

You’d be gutted if you got brighton away in the 3rd round let alone the qtr final!
We've barely played them (if at all even) in my life though, so it's not like we have memories of going there in the 90s when they were crap. New stadium, decent city, by the sea...the bad part is that they're actually a decent team and we won't get through it with just grit, determination, guile and fortune like we did last night. I think our FA Cup escapades will ultimately end there but we'll pack their away end and have a good time still.
Shame about Grimsby resorting to dirty time wasting tactics though to slow the game down, feigning injuries etc for the pen. Worst side I’ve seen for that this season and didn’t paint league 2 in a good light. Cracking win though so fair play.
Hahaha, fair. I'd argue that it's allowed against a Prem team though. No excuse when you're at sitting pretty in the auto spots and doing it in the first half at home to a team in 16th though!

I'm rough today. My missus said she got out of bed and came into the kitchen to tell me off for making too much noise making toast at 12:30am but she just walked straight back out as I was babbling "Grimsby nonsense" and was just wearing my boxers and Town shirt (tucked in).

Glad I'm WFH today. Got a re-run of the match on as I work. Ally McCoist on co-comms, easily the one of the best co-commentators/pundits.

Luke Waterfall has already beaten Brighton in the FA Cup before...!

Speaking of him, he's had some great seasons/days out for a player who's generally flitted between L2 and NL. He's played in two cup finals at Wembley (lost with Wrexham, won with us), won the NL, won L2, lost and won in the PO's and now got to the QF's of the FA Cup twice!
And I don't think it's merely coincidence. Aside from a dodgy start with us when he was partnered in a mismatched pairing with Mattie Pollock, he's consistently been one of the best CBs at L2/NL for years and years now. He embodies a lot of the qualities you need on big match days. He's been exceptional for us since the start of last season after Hurst had told him he could leave. Massive respect for him. A shame his stint in L1 was short lived. Perhaps a level too far for him, but he's arguably earnt that right again.

Agreed. He's a very head and kick it kinda defender (perhaps a bit of a disservice because he's not a L2 clogger) but he's exactly what you need at L2 and NL level. He played with some excellent defenders here (Raggett, Shackell, Wharton, Bostwick (when he wasn't in midfield)) and rarely lost his place that I can recall. Always turned up in the big games.

L1 seemed a step too far, albeit he played under John Askey at Shrewsbury, who met his release clause, so probably not the type of manager he needed to play under at that level. Ironically enough, he'd have probably faired better there if Hurst was still the manager there at the time.

Well done Grimsby I’m sure all lower league fans will be rooting for you except probably the 300 Sunny fans

Yeah, thanks Grimsby. We'll make sure Scummers never live this down. As if being famous for losing 9-0 in consecutive seasons isn't embarrassing enough!

If it was a NL league side doing this the whole country would be spunking their crackers about what a brilliant league it is so i will just say that this result just shows how much depth and quality there is in L2 :animatedf:
Remember us knocking Naarg out of the cup a few years ago from the National league?

If you go on a spurt of form you could be playing them next season.

Every time he plays at Mansfield he gets sent off plus when he did play for us he got sent off as well.

I’ve been noticing a lot of love for us from Pompey fans recently unsurprisingly! :bg:

We're too far behind, we've got no chance!
That's a shame as you guys should be back up, I remember that game in the snow when Moncur hit a free for the winner. Great game with both sides giving it their all.

And Luton, we should have no complaints about the loss (we were shite both games) I don't feel so bad now.

Haha yeah, he got sent off at your place for throwing a water bottle back into the crowd after a last minute equaliser didn't he!

I remember that as the free kick should never have been given and that loss totally derailed our season. By the time we got back on track, it was too late. Been stuck in League One since due to bad management and owners not being ambitious enough.

I think most of us wouldn’t care if it was 2am in the morning as long as we would get a ticket, which seems unlikely for anyone who isn’t a STH. There certainly will be some STH that don’t go, but they will be tapped up by others as I type this…

I may have a slight chance in our second tier membership scheme, but not hopeful.

It’s only really occurring to me that I might not even get a ticket for Brighton, will be frustrating given the effort it took to get there on Weds & already seen a lot of bandwagon jumpers asking their mates for season tickets

You don't have any sort of loyalty points scheme that fans accumulate through buying away tickets?

We have the 1878 membership scheme but there’s two issues, you don’t score points from it and you can join it at any time. So essentially if you paid £20 and joined today, you’d have exactly the same chance as I do if the tickets reached the point of 1878 members

That sounds like our old system from about 10 year ago, to combat people jumping on the bandwagon the club ended up limiting it to 1000 and it had to be purchased by the season ticket deadline. That system has finally made way for the more modern loyalty point system where you get points for the away games you go to and a set amount for a season ticket or home matches if you don’t have one and things like cup games etc.

Same thing we brought in this season, not that we've used it yet to my knowledge.

Good luck getting tickets then!

Yeah same here, my lads got a season ticket but I don’t as I work 4 on 4 off so no chance I’m getting one. :(

Yep, it's a shame. As with Notts away last season, I had no problem missing out to full ST holders but it's the bandwagoners that can get to fuck. I saw my cousin, a Liverpool fan, at Wrexham in the playoffs last season who had got my Uncle's ST ticket. The fact that the non-ST holders that came down from GY to Southampton midweek might miss out is bollocks. I did Solihull and Alty midweek last season from London, along with places like Torquay and Weymouth. Was one of the 270 or so at Gillingham a few weeks ago. The fact that I don't get any kind of loyalty for this and might well miss out on Brighton is highly frustrating. The crowd at Southampton was absolutely class, if it was down to me everyone who went to that would get a Brighton ticket as it was absolutely bouncing. One of the best Town away atmospheres I've been in in 32 years of supporting Town.

Strange ticketing system! This is the Official one.

Tickets for our first FA Cup Quarter-Final in 84 years will go on sale on a one-for-one basis as follows:

Season Ticket holders – from Tuesday 7th March in-person from the Ticket Office after the full-time whistle following our match against Newport County. Tickets will be available online to Season Ticket holders from 12:01am on Wednesday 8th March.

Please be aware that there will be no telephone enquiries until 10am on Wednesday 8th March.

Season Ticket holders will have exclusivity until Friday morning.

1878 Club members – from Friday 10th March at 9am online and 10am from the Ticket Office for in-person and over-the-phone sales. Please be aware that queues at the Ticket Office will be served ahead of phone enquiries.

Mariners Trust members – from Saturday 11th March at 9am online and 10am from the Ticket Office for in-person and over-the-phone sales. Please be aware that queues at the Ticket Office will be served ahead of phone enquiries.

Should there be any tickets remaining at this stage, these will go on unrestricted General Sale on Monday 13th March from 9am online and 10am from the Ticket Office.

Your support throughout this season, and especially throughout our history-making FA Cup run, has been incredible. We can’t wait to see scenes like Kenilworth Road and St Mary’s at the Amex – keep doing yourselves, the town and the club proud!

Hard to control though unless you had some loyalty point system, only way of doing it would be to limit the number of tickets a single ST holder could buy. That way they couldn't buy say 7 or 8 tickets for bandwagoners, but that comes with the downside where a season ticket holder may have two or three mates that are genuine fans but don't have a ST as they work shifts or something.

It is one for one for ST holders. The bandwagoners will be the ones who don't go regularly but manage to get that one from a ST holder who isn't going. The only mistake the club have made is the utterly bizarre decision to start sales immediately after Newport, forcing a huge queue on the coldest day of the year.

Luckily for me, a family member is a season ticket holder and I’ve managed to get a bloody ticket.

Few days of stressing ended at 6am. Going to watch us in the quarter final of the FA Cup is pretty surreal
