Previously "The FA Cup in association with Budweiser", the competition will now be renamed "The Emirates FA Cup." Set to be announced on Thursday.

Warning, Daily Mail link.

Not to be confused with the United Arab Emirates FA Cup

As long as it doesn't go down the same route as the League Cup being called the Carling/Coca-Cola/Capital One etc Cup and remains FA Cup, I don't really care personally. If it actually becomes the 'Emirates Cup' then I think we need to begin rioting. Though it'd be nice being the last team to win the FA Cup when it's still called that. :shut:

Certainly has a ring of irony that The FA Cup may undergo the name change to Emirates Cup just as Arsenal start winning it. They'll be claiming they won it in 2007, 2008 and 2010 too if it does.

Yes, but that's The Emirates cup, not The Emirates FA Cup...

Place your bets on how long it'll be before we have the Etihad World Cup...

I thought it was a wind-up by the title but it doesn't matter what big company shells out the cash to have their name strapped to it as it will always be known simply as the FA Cup.

Always depresses me in interviews with Premiership managers how when referring to the division, they revert to corporate drone mode and parrot off "Barclays Premier League" before continuing with their point.. I fear this could go down the same route.

Doesn't matter what it's called by men in suits, for me it's always the FA Cup same as the Capital One Cup is the League Cup.

Don't really get the big deal, no one associates the FA Cup with Budweiser really. We all still call it the FA Cup and will continue to do so.

As I said, I bet people said that about the League/Carling/Coca-Cola/Milk Cup... Not to mention the change to the Premier League, people saying they'll call it Division One still, then the change to Championship/League 1/2 and Division 1/2/3... Eventually, they all get to be known as their new names.

yeah, I don't get it either. Not sure the Emirates FA Cup is much different to when it was the AXA-Sponsored FA Cup. Everybody still called it the FA Cup then and they will now. If they were renaming it the Emirates Cup, I'd understand the reaction more.
