Hi Benj. First allow me to apologise for the quite frankly flippant and rude behaviour of the savages above who responded to you. One of them is American and the other lives in a place with the word c*** in the middle of it....say no more.

For those who support their local clubs it's generally because of that reason...it's the club of their town / city. With cities that have 2 clubs then maybe they'll support the team closest to them, or maybe because their older relatives support that team. For people who support teams that are/have been successfull it's borne of a psychological desire to associate themselves with success. Then there are people who have moved from one part the country to another and adopted the club in the town where they have moved

I was going to suggest putting this thread on to one of the other divisions, but then I noticed you are a Man U fan from Denmark, so I am basically pissing in the wind here aren't I?

Bury were my father's local team. We moved around a bit until I was of primary school age so they were a constant, watching them every other week. I feel simultaneously attached and detached to them, attached because I've been watching them for all my years but detached because I'm not actually from Bury.

Halifax Town are simply my local team in the pyramid. Decided to watch them a few years in which was on and off until 2008 when I've been watching us as much as possible ever since.

It is quite simple, the more successful a team is the more 'supporters/gloryhunters' they will attract, especially in places like Cornwall that don't have a team in the 92. Which means, depending on age, a lot of Leeds, Liverpool and Man U fans, who don't posses one northern accent between them

The 80s too remember. What with 2 European cups, 2 FA cups, 4 league cups and 6 league titles. Even then poor little Everton were in our shadow with a measly 3 pieces of silverware throughout the entire decade.
