Downloading it now. Had FIFA 17 for a few months and found it really hard to defend, is it still the case?

Got the icon edition as I was just getting into FUT on the 17 edition. I wasn't that good mind, only got to Div 2 in seasons mode and there was hardly any online players about but my record against them was crap. Rely heavily on pass and move and through balls/crosses. Hope to improve my dribbling skills as I think I'd be an alright player if I could do more than two skill moves.

Division 2 isn't a bad level to be at, at all. Defending is way different this year. Imo the use of dribbling sets the top players away from the very good players, although that's not all about skill moves where only two or three really have any impact.

That's the thing, when trying to qualify for the weekend league, I always had the lions share of the ball and competed against the better players for about 2/3 of the game before getting destroyed as I was fallible against anyone running at my defence. Never qualified as a result but came close on one occasion :bg: Hopefully it's a bit simpler to contain/tackle dribblers in FIFA 18.

Never really did the SBC apart from the hybrid ones, just seemed like a lot of work to get the odd player and then you get shafted on the 99 chemistry thing and have to play 10 games (?) That annoyed me. Because I don't want to buy extra coins or have enough time for the trading tricks, I was basically just stuck with my squad of mostly 80+ players and always only around 20k in the bank. Hit a brick wall at that point and started to question the longevity of FUT, but back for another go. Any tips to bag the 84+ ones without trading like mad? Don't say win matches as that still doesn't give enough coins to get the real top players.

Coin unlock, FUT draft (early on), SBCs (most of the time will break even, but occasionally there's a gem) are the main ways I initially build something up. There's the WL and this year squad battles as well, although both get tiring, fast.

Some of the trading trick really aren't that time consuming, I picked up a load of Koulibaly at the weekend and made a nice little profit selling them off yesterday.

I haven't had much time to play this yet but I'm going to build these as relatively cheap starter squads...

Steven. Swap out de Rossi for Gonalons and Ansaldi for Lukaku. I had both originally and absolutely hated them.

DdR's turning circle is genuinely abysmal and Ansaldi is the most meh playet I've used.

Must say I'm impressed with this FIFA, better than 17 I'd say so far. Defending is a little easier but not so easy that you can just grab the ball from 5 yards off the player. This edition is a bit more arcadey than the previous making it more fun. FUT seems better, less menu lag, can see more player attributes and the squad battles look good. More ways to earn decent coin.

As I had the icon edition, I got shitloads of packs and got the Brazilian Ronaldo on loan as well as Modric/Christiano Ronaldo. After a couple of SBCs I had a squad full of gold players without spending a thing. First game in online seasons, destroying opponent, 5-0 up after 60 minutes then a rendering crash :ffs: Forfeited my result, well harsh like. Came back, started a new game and won 2-1 with 2 goals in the last 5 minutes so fuck you FIFA!

Looks like there'll be more longevity in this year's FUT so here's to every night after work hammering my fake X Box pad to oblivion :2thumb:

Was doing my squad battles for the day. One was an absolutely ridiculous team so I put it on professional rather than world class

89 Hagi was absolutely insane. Just walked through my team like they weren't even there.

Think Hagi will be the first icon I want...will have to settle for 85 one though.

Also I decided to go 433 (version with one CDM) and that's been doing decently. Belotti wasn't doing quite so well in it though I think down to his WRs as he'd come too deep and I'd have nobody upfront.

Found that M/L strikers got my system well in that formation though so went with that. Got these two teams for the WL

I've temporarily ditched my two team system for the Weekend League.

Higuain
Gomez Hamsik Mertens
Tolisso Matuidi
Alaba Boateng Varane Carvajal
ter Stegen
Subs: Piszczek, Hector, Callejon, SBC Quaresma, Perotti, Belotti, SBC Gignac

If I'm struggling to break a team down or they're defending too well wide (normally 4-4-2 or another 4-2-3-1) then it turns into an effective and surprisingly well balanced plan B of:

Higuain Mertens
Gomez
Hamsik Matuidi Tolisso
Alaba Boateng Varane Carvajal
ter Stegen

Found that the Werner based team was performing very well defensively and it was nice with Werner up top, just everything else in the middle was failing, so I sold it up. Thanks to continued good pack luck from SBCs and continued Draft success I'm sitting on 750,000 coins for use after the WL. I could blow it and bring in Dybala, Nainggolan and Vidal but that just seems overkill when team A is already very good for now and I'm going to be bleeding coins with no resale value on fitness. Not that I know what I'm going to do yet, the problem is finding a couple of players who can play wide CAM well enough and getting them into a functional team and I don't really want to waste half of it on a Griezmann or Hagi.

Actually busy for once on Sunday so trying to do a decent amount of my WL today. Currently 5-2. Most recent win was the best. Guy had a super team with players like Griezmann, Varane and Modric. I was using that Benteke team. He kept scoring from kickoff and doing the running around sshhhh'ing celebration. 3-3 at extra time so I bring on loan Suarez and Keita. He brings on Ronaldo.

Just before end of the first half of extra time Izquerdo just flings in a cross to the far post where Suarez knocks in an overhead volley and I manage to hold off the response to win 4-3

Also if anyone's making a prem team I highly recommend Wijnaldum and Klaassen for your midfield.

I'm currently 4-1. No complaints about the loss I had, couple of late goals against, but I was massively struggling to hold on at times.

Just had something that hasn't happened in about 4 fifas!

Took a shot and it was really bad and just dribbled wide. But Sterling actually ran over to it and tapped it in. Normally your players wouldn't run to the ball when it's a shot even if it was going 1mph out for a throw in unless it was deflected.

Proper struggling to finish (I say after a 5-1 win) after the patch change, it's costing me.

Edit: Lols, get a rage quit at half time, 4-1 up, 4 shots, 4 goals. Point still stands.

I think you'll find that I can score on FIFA against players who aren't capable of taking on the top 100 in the world.
I beat LOTAL on Xbox :D

just lost on penalties. So frustrating, hit the post with Belotti seconds before extra time, I KEEP HITTING THE FUCKING WOODWORK.

JJH

Pacey centre backs - Sentinal
Less pacey centre backs (70 or below) - Anchor
Full backs - Shadow
Defensive mids - Powerhouse
Box to box players - Engine
CAMs or wingers - Engine or Maestro
Strikers - Hunter unless they're really weak or have pace over 88, then Hawk.

IMO. Relentless may disagree.

I’ve been liking Marksman on strikers this year tbh.

Also I’m a fan of backbone on CDMs

Done for today. Proper tilted. Was a dead even game, someone had a low weak cross from outwide, Alaba fell over the ball and tapped it in at the far post for an og. He was completely unmarked and I didn't press a button. Fucking annoying that.

13-7 and calling it a day. Just snuck into the lower end of my (Fifa 17) normal 26-29 win range.

Edit: I lied. Wanted to see if I could end it on 14-7. I did. That looks much more respectable that I've hit a 2:1 ratio. Now it's a day.

Dumped ter Stegen whereas whilst he wasn't costing me games as such, he wasn't making a single big save, so in came Neuer at a criminally eyewatering cost I feel is wasted on a goalkeeper, more out of tilt than anything else. Will check his value tomo and if I don't make too much of a loss will probably trade him in for Leno/ Lloris/ IF Ruffier. Varane joins Matuidi off chem, but that doesn't really bother me.

Against lower opposition I felt full backs contributing offensively was a must, but in WL it kinda cost me a little bit doing that.

Anyone else faced Bakayako yet... anyone?!
