There has only been one occasion when a joint bid was successful, that was in 2002 and both Japan and South Korea hosted the tournament, and as hosts both were automatically granted entry to the finals.
The 2026 tournament will be hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States, so I'd assume that all three will automatically qualify.
Which brings us to 2030 and a proposed joint bid from the United Kingdom and the ROI. If that bid wins will all five countries automatically qualify?

It seems a bit contrived that so many countries are allowed to qualify with automatic qualification without any process involved. Next will we see all the Balkan countries hold a joint tournament and all of them qualify? I feel any tournament should be held and hosted by a single country and only two if there is such significant historical ties (so too speak). I can understand smaller countries wanting to host the tournament or matches but surely they should qualify first as then it seems less than a farce!

There's going to be 48 teams in from 2026 so might as well let a few hosts in.

Given we’ve got no chance of landing it I hope it goes to South America. Proper footballing hotbed. Final should be in Montevideo, would be fitting I reckon.

The 2026 finals should be amazing. So many amazing stadiums especially in the states, fans will be crazy too.
