Grimsby; Dover, Braintree, Tranmere and Eastleigh should be looking at fifth place in the play offs as this place is a golden ticket directly to the final. Fifth place would mean a two legged semi-final against FGR a team that have struggled to win, score goals and conceded sloppy goals in the last ten games. Fifth place is a bye to the final.

it usually is in a lot of leagues - when we still had McNulty in our team back in 2007/8 we went from relegation places in November/December to get into 5th spot with 1 game left of the season in conference north. We faced a Telford side in the semi's who had been very unlucky not to go up and beat them home and away (making it 10-0 over the 4 matches that season) before wining the final against Stalybridge. The team finishing 5th often has had to win it's last few games to get there and therefore has momentum and confidence which often seems to count for a lot in the play offs.

Cambridge United turned off their form completely once their second place finish was secured, the rest is history.

Up the FGR.

Is it still the case that 5th place has never been promoted since conference play offs came in?

I might have made that up....

2nd place teams often blow themselves out, we did when we were chasing Fleetwood, and Kiddie did when Mansfield went up- although both of us had accumulated a greater points total than FGR will have this season.

I think it's going to end up as 2nd FGR 3rd Dover 4th Braintree 5th Grimsby. Dover and Braintree look far more likely eventual winners unless the other two can sort themselves out.

I don't think Tranmere and Eastleigh need to worry too much about the playoffs.

Granted. But still weary of fgr. They are the only side in the top 8 to of beaten us thus far.

If we were there the only team we'd be wary of would be Grimsby - we took points off the rest, beating all but FGR. Grimsby seem to have far more strength in depth in their forwards than the rest...

In the last five minutes between our teams, we have scored 3 and you scored 0. Extrapolating that, we would win a 2-legged tie approximately 108-0. It's a rough calculation, obviously, I haven't factored in injury time etc...

We're going to all wear Grimsby shirts on Saturday and have the team play in our yellow away kit. Easy win then.

Details, details. We won at Cheltenham but that doesn't make us champions.

It should, but it doesn't.

Yeah but Hurst will probably play Nsiala and Gowling up front and leave Amond and Bogle on the bench!
