What happened was the ref had forgotten he'd booked Ollie Clarke earlier in the game until our players reminded him, I'm not sure he would've booked him had he remembered as it did seem somewhat innocuous at the time but did end up with us having to sub Sam Mantom off for the second half (he was excellent again up until then, hope we can sign him up for next season).

It was a shame we lost both central midfielders in that first half, we ended up with a full back and a striker playing in midfield and couldn't break through what was a strong defensive performance by the Gas although our final ball and shooting was poor today.

That would explain it, I didn't realise he'd been booked earlier either. I agree about Mantom, hopefully Walsall don't want him because he's been decent since he's been with us.

Today pretty much summed up our season - meh!

I think momentum was lost due to the time out for injuries to Lyle Taylor and Ryan Cooney. I suspect that the scoreline would have been different if Lyle had remained on the pitch.

Oh well, 18th, better than 21st.

He is on loan from us, not Walsall.

I think Mantom is absolutely class. Alexander didn't rate him for some reason. He is a bit injury prone but when he plays he is quality. Fingers crossed whoever our new manager is gives him a chance.

Sorry, no idea why I thought Walsall. Maybe if you go up there won't be room for him in a Championship squad ;)

Yep another poor call by the referee yesterday against us. I don’t think it was a yellow (for the second - the first yellow card was clear as day) and he’s forgotten he’s bloody booked him! If he had remembered, he wouldn’t have given him the second yellow. Interestingly o don’t think the Southend crowd knew either as no one went up in arms calling for him to be sent off.

We’ve really had the brunt of it this season from referees - glad the season is over
