We're not going to be seeing it for at least another three years and by then we'll be sick of it cos Squenix are going to milk the shit out of what limited footage they have, a la FF14.

I'm not too hot on the trailer either. Dark, grimy, self-serious, lacking humour. Show me what they do with the Ancient Forest and Gold Saucer and maybe I'll re-evaluate.

To be fair, of what they showed there was hardly any kind of humour in the original opening either. Midgar is supposed to be dark and grimy so it's no surprise to see it like it is in the trailer. Squenix have said they'll keep the goofy, light-hearted stuff such as the cross-dressing segment in so I still hold out hope.

I wasn't too sold by the lip syncing, even by today's standards but the combat seems to be a nice mix of traditional menu-based and dynamic action stuff which is what I think would work best. Turn based hasn't aged well and anything too much like the more recent 1FF games would be a turn off.

I can't wait to see what they'll do with the Gold Saucer.

LOL I just downloaded the original from the PS4 store. They have added a few bonuses . Pressing L3 speeds everything up by x3 , pressing both l3+r3 turns on no encounters, and if you press R3 whilst in battle , your HP, MP go to max and your limits activate. If you feel the need to cheat. TBF only one i'll be using is the x3 mode to speed up lengthy dialogue

I guess they've added these so people can generally have fun. Since starting it yesterday I've only used this command once (to try out) and i'm just about to finish the Shinra HQ
The no encounter option only works on the world map i'm told. The speed up by 3 option I use for skipping through long dialogue

Whatever reason they peddle out, it's inevitably going to feel like a poor excuse for either them wanting to milk the money or that the development process is too big a task for them to get it released in a reasonable time scale. There's no precedent in current or past tech for ever releasing a game in separate chunks because it's simply too big to release in one go. Even if they add a load of new content you still have to wonder is the game going to be bigger than TW3? GTA5?

This. Not played the original properly to be fair, but personally there's no way in hell I'll be purchasing this episodically.

For the record, I've played FFVI/VIII/X/X-2/XIII and am currently playing the FFIV re-release for the DS which is a bit weird but there we go, I've also dabbled but never had a proper play of I/II/V/VII/IX, not touched XI/XII/XIII-2/3/XIV..
