Vaughan would not be remotely match fit for the play offs, so probably would not make a material difference.

If we do make the play offs, it will be interesting to see how we approach the games given how poor we have been in recent weeks. Our first shot on target on Saturday was on 77 minutes from a centre half. With that kind of attacking adventure, the Sky viewers will be in for a feast of fun.

Not being funny but imo our only chance of getting anywhere in the playoffs is if we play you and vice versa. If the table finishes as it is now a Morecambe v Newport final is virtually nailed on.

Get to the final and it’s anyone’s game, but to win over two legs against either of the other two (or Bolton) given our current form and available squad seems very unlikely. Could do with Newport dropping points so both us and Tranmere overtake them.

If you go up then Fleetwood's plan to keep you in League Two has failed but I'm sure they'll be looking to loan him out to another L2 team they have earmarked as a potential threat who need to be kept from getting promoted.
I cannot but agree on your thinking

Crellin is a u17 World Cup winner apparently, played with Phil Foden. So must have talent.

Young keepers out on loan for the first time often struggle doesn’t mean they won’t end up as good players. Robert Sanchez made some real howlers for us 2 years ago but is now Brighton’s no.1 and got called up by Spain. Likewise Brad Collins struggled massively at first in our first season up but improved and is now Barnsley’s no.1.

Crellin was also crap at Chorley the season before...

It's a shame because there aren't any matches where both teams have something at stake, so it's predictable who will be trying and who won't.
Like when Harrogate reserves played Cambridge the other week?

We have got the players to win the play offs even without Vaughan, and I don't think the general standard in the top seven is that great, including Bolton and Morecambe. However, our squad has had the life crushed out of it in the last two months by Hill's negative tactics and it is difficult to see how that will turn round in the next couple of weeks.

All this talk of the top sides beating those sides with nothing to play for is silly. Just because a side has to win at all costs doesn't mean it's going to - I remember when 'all' Bristol Rovers had to do was to beat nowt to play for Mansfield and stay up. They lost the game and were relegated to the connie.

Also, if all the teams seeking a win do indeed succeed at doing just that then we would all be rich come 5pm Sat. All you need to do is bet heavily on a Bolton, Morecambe, FGR, Exeter and Salford five fold acca. You can also throw in Cambridge, Newport and Tranmere not to get beat for good measure.

What some fans fail to grasp is that football teams generally play better when they're not under any pressure to get a result and vice versa. Then there's the fact that scenarios do things quickly up and down the land during those fateful 90 mins. For instance, Salford may still be drawing after 40 mins while Exeter and FGR are already 2 or 3 goals up by that time, and that will have a definite effect on the Salford players.

If we bottle it on Saturday and you’ve got us in the play offs then it’s anyone’s guess what Cambridge side you’ll see. We got promoted back into the league after losing the last three league games and the play off first leg but I wouldn’t recommend hitting the play offs with no momentum...

Correct - and just because the teams have nothing to play for, there will be a lot of out of contract players in the summer who will want to show they're still worth another year.

Qualifying for the play-offs, or getting really close, then sacking your manager isn't good for the heart...wouldn't recommend that either.

Not always the case, just over a decade ago we played away to Grays Athletic on the last day of the season, they had already been relegated and we needed something from the game to stay up. Of course our team failed to turn up completely, half of them were journeymen whose hearts really weren't in it...the speed that they left the pitch at the final whistle, following our defeat, was about as fast as they had moved all season.

+1

Keith Hill tactics - sideways, backwards, hoof and then repeat!

Clearly an April fools.
We certainly were! There are never, or should never be, games you go into expecting a win to be a given...I suspect our team may have done just that...one of those results that left you completely numb.

Mind you football is great for producing the unexpected, such as beating Hyde United 8-0 on the opening day...we could have easily scored double if it wasn't for their keeper pulling off a string of amazing saves, despite the scoreline he was their best player, the rest of his team looked like they were still on their summer holidays.

Yep, it's definitely a worry. The betting markets have loads of teams odds on for a change. Probably value backing the upsets.

There is definitely an element of not wanting an injury for your summer. Countered with the desire to ruin someone's plans.

I think Morecambe win, so we need to. Unfortunately I think Crawley will be up for it.

Crawley never an easy place to go and I think the sky cameras will have an affect on their team selection and desire to do well.

This weekend is a lottery to predict.

Whilst us and the Stags have a relaxed game of football the promotion race looks good.

Think Morecambe will do Bradford, cant see Cambridge losing to Grimsby and Bolton will get a point I think.

On the face of it though all three will be fancied to win against mid/lower opposition but pressure is funny.

Should be smashing the likes of Barow but knowing them they will put 11 men behind the ball and Huxtable will find a way to give them a pen for no reason.

Fully expect us to win on Saturday but who knows if that will be enough. Naturally, the best bet is that Oldham take at least a point off FGR, which I can see happening, however Oldham seem to be really unpredictable.

Not too likely that Newport or Tranmere will lose but stranger things have happened. If we don’t make it, it will be so frustrating as we’ve given up so many chances in the last couple of months. But that’s L2 for you, very little stand out quality throughout the league.
If we miss out it'll be completely down to all those draws recently. We've lost the least amount of games in the league this season (Joint with top of the table Cheltenham) and have the joint best goal difference in the league. We don't deserve to miss out, but we probably will. And with 72 points? Ouch. Those 3 0-0 games recently are what's so annoying.

You know what almost exactly the design I was looking at at the time, looks pretty classy imo if it's small and near the hairline. Would have had trouble with the missus and at work though and I bottled it but reckon it would look decent on an arm or leg.

We might have our flip-flops on. We looked it against Orient last weekend but it made for an entertaining game at least. Since half our players are already locked in for next season and those we want to keep probably know we want to keep them, not many players will feel that they're playing for their futures. I reckon we'll win though and it could be entertaining, we definitely seem to play more nice flowing football when the pressure is off.

I imagine Norman will continue in goal, I think we're looking to give him some game time as despite spending almost the entire season either on the bench or the treatment table he's still in our plans for the future.

My head has been all over the place this week, some of the time I think we're going to collapse and lose something like 2-0, other times I think "what was I worrying about, we're going to stuff them".

Our position is full of contradictions - we're 2nd in the table for a reason, at home to bottom of the league (also there for a reason) but we've lost our last two while Grimsby are on a better run they've been most of the season (3 wins from 5).

We've come off a really good run against good sides (beat Newport, Forest Green, Morecambe and Orient over the last couple of months) but then we've just lost to Harrogate and Stevenage who both had nothing to play for.

26 out of 27 possible combinations of results for us, Bolton and Morecambe see us promoted - the only one where we don't go up is LWW - but I can't help feeling that it's the 1 in 27 which seems the most likely outcome.....

Honestly, I'm not bipolar and I wouldn't want to make light of anyone who does suffer from it but my emotions are all over the place. I just hope the team are getting their heads in gear better than I am.

Had we held on and won against Exeter the end of this game could’ve been nuts, you needing a point to go up and us needing a win to stay up, couple of minutes to go, it’s all square and we have all 11 players in your half to try and get the win.
Then you break on us with a 4 v 2 break but it gets messed up, then our 11 are all back in your half again for the next attack.
Rinse.
Repeat.
Ahh it could’ve been so exciting.
