"Dart players tough guys footballers wimps."

What's tough about throwing a projectile into a board and getting pissed up? Tough. Footballers actually play a physical sport. How did he not see that this would cost him his job? He must have been drunk, I have an image in my head of his wife pleading him not to send another tweet.

I'm not entirely surprised to hear that it's kicking off in Cambs as well.

Awful that from Bristow. I see he's lost his job commentating on Darts now.

Newcastle have got rid of him too, was due to work there for a night. Guessing for some charity event.

Bristow apologises. Surely only wimps would go back on what they say?

"appreciated my wording was wrong and offended many people"

That's his apology right there. Kind of a non-apology in my opinion, 'sorry I made a bad choice of words, language is easily misunderstood, I feel bad that people took it the wrong way, what I really meant was...' he got sacked because Sky don't want to be associated with someone who believes abused children should take responsibility for stopping the abuse, so in that respect his words were bang-on, they were a perfect illustration of the thing that Eric Bristow believes. There are some cases where you can claim it was just a bad choice of words and you don't really believe what people now think you believe, this isn't one of them.

I don't believe it's a genuine apology at all. He's simply hoping it will lessen the damage to his reputation and therefore lessen the financial loss his stupidity and Neanderthal views will lead to.

First of all I would like to thank Eric for acceding to my request for an explanation.

Perhaps he is right, perhaps we misunderstood his use of the phrases "looney" (I don't think Eric even understands this one, he spelt it wrong), "proper men" and "poof". He is clearly using complex language here and it would be helpful for him to clarify exactly what he actually meant by "looney" because he clearly could not have meant the mentally ill, "poof" because he clearly could not have meant homosexual and "proper men" because he clearly could not have been referring to darts players, of all sportsmen, as "proper men".

This sentence hurts my head. Surely you mean, "I don't believe it's a genuine apology"?

I edited my wording half way through and didn't remove the 'not'.

Well spotted.

I think its because people under the age of say 25 have been molly coddled all there lives and the slightest remark or joke offends them so easy. Maybe its just my pub........who knows and who cares?....... i'd say the average age is about 45 so probably is a rarity.

What happened is wrong we all know, but i'm sure going round there and kicking the fuck out of him is a much better punishment than a free life in a open prison.

If he'd kept his mouthing off to the pub then nobody apart from his mates would know that he's a bit of a dickhead, but he went on twitter instead so now we all know he's a bit of a dickhead and Sky and Newcastle United haven't dumped him because of the PC brigade, but because they have reputations (such as they are) to uphold and if everyone thinks the person you have representing you is a bit of a dickhead then it doesn't help with that.

I never said he couldn't put what he wants on Twitter, you seem to be suggesting that somehow Sky should be forced to continue employing him, or that saying what you want on the internet is a right only extended to Eric Bristow but not to those who wish to call him a dickhead.

Because let's get a couple of things clear, the only bad things that have happened to Bristow as a result of his comments is people calling him a dickhead (as is their right) and Sky and others sacking him (as is their right), he's not been thrown in jail for saying it has he? It's still a free country so I don't see what your problem is.

I'm not a Sky subscriber, I don't think Murdoch was personally involved in the decision to sack Bristow, and even if he was, does the fact that Murdoch is a dickhead mean that therefore Bristow cannot be a dickhead... surely it's possible for them both to be dickheads.

Anyway, you're getting my point all wrong, this is nothing to do with what I think about Bristow, or what you think about Bristow. You seem to be upset that people are calling Bristow a dickhead and that other people don't want to work with him anymore, but those people are allowed to do as they please.

Freedom to say as you please doesn't imply freedom from the consquences of what you say... well provided those consequences are legal.
