The Geordies crying is hilarious.

For all of Shelvey's lovely passing at 11v11 they never looked like scoring, though Sky would have you believed otherwise.

Shelvey kicked out at Lansbury off the ball. The reaction was OTT but whatever, this is modern day football. Blatant red.

The second red was harsh I think, didn't think it was a pen and a red with the new rules but he also never played the ball.

Not quite as hilarious as what was left of your support celebrating a lucky 2-1 vs 9 men like a European Cup win. As for "blatant red"...

Both Jonjo Shelvey and Paul Dummett have had their suspensions withdrawn with immediate effect after their wrongful dismissal claims were successful following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing.

The Newcastle United pair were dismissed for violent conduct and denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity respectively during the game against Nottingham Forest on 2nd December 2016.

That's the last time that ref will referee a game for a while in the championship!

Shame they can't give retrospective action to Lansbury for feigning injury and diving

Just seen the statement there too. What a farce that game turned out to be. Both red's have been overturned and the red in question has got a nice little weekend off due to his incompetence.

I can 100% guarantee you the ref got the weekend off to take him out of the limelight for any potential backlash and further issues. This isn't a "punishment"

Imo we have two players who take a dive - Ince and Martin. Martin isn't with us anymore and Ince likes to feel contact to go down.

For me diving needs to be stamped out and that includes all clubs including ours. I hate it.

I agree. Like I said elsewhere Lansbury made a meal of his fouls this weekend. If this is the first step to cutting it out then so be it, but needs properly implementing. Lansburys behaviour was a symptom and not a cause of the bigger issue IMO

dunno how you'd implement retrospective action for diving though, aside from incidents with zero contact. if there's contact who's to say it wasn't enough to send the player down?

Tougher when there is contact, but common sense can be applied in some cases.

If someone's running for a bus and gets a brush on the shoulder they don't throw themself into the nearest patch of grass and roll around clutching their shin as if it's been whacked with a 9 iron

I guess even common sense is all subjective though. I'd imagine any given panel would have to be unanimous in their decision.

Don't really understand the huge issue everyone has with diving. It's a tactic and part of the game, there's plenty of worse offences that people aren't bothered about.

It's cheating....

And Lansbury's a right little c***. Shelvey's was a red but the second Lansbury had nearly hit the deck before contact.

So? If the ref isn't able to spot it then it's good play in my opinion. When my brother was at Rovers academy when he was 7, the outfield players had a lesson on how to dive properly. it's never gonna go out the game when it's being coached into them at that age. People just not to stop being wetwipes and get over it.

You're one of the few people who actually accept diving as part of the game.

It ought to be clamped down on, retrospective action if you're caught doing it, let alone actually be encouraged.

I think it's part of the game but here's a subtle element to it, not what we saw during this game. When people take the piss like Lansbury did it get's noticed and blown out of proportion because it's out of the ordinary. Play acting, feigning injury and blatant diving are a no no. You've got to be savvy about it, he wasn't hence the reaction.

TalkSport were on about it being part of the whole entertainment package of modern day football, which whilst I accept that there will always be cases of this, it doesn't make it right. If I was a Toon fan and had spent my dollar and time to make my way down to the City Ground last Friday I'd be fucking fuming.

Lansbury reminds me of Robbie savage. Hated savage in a derby shirt with a passion. I have a similar hate to Lansbury

In that case Blackburn should never have a moan about somebody who dives against them if they teaching 7 year olds to do it!

How about just getting these youngsters to be good at football?

Maybe that is the general problem with English youth - too worried about the little "advantages" that can be gained and not focusing on the skill levels.

What a disappointing attitude.

Why? I don't understand what the huge problem is with it. It's no different to appealing for a throw in or corner when you know it came off you last.

At the end of the day, football is about winning. End of. If diving to win a penalty helps your team win a game then why wouldn't you do it?

It's cheating Tom, give the fuck over.

If you were one of those Newcastle fans that had taken time off work and spent a fair bit to go down on a Friday night you'd be right pissed off that a theatrical cheat on the opposing team had cost you the game.

Well I'd be pissed off that we lost but I'd be more pissed off at the referee than Lansbury.

Lansbury is such a c@nt. Starts falling over waaay before the defender gets there for the second penalty, the only contact comes when he's most of the way down.

For the Shelvey incident, the thing that causes Shelvey to go down is Lansbury absolutely booting his legs out from underneath him (without being near the ball at all). Shelvey does kick out but it doesn't actually touch Lansbury, yet Lansbury starts writhing all over the floor.

Even if it was a red card, which I think it probably was, it was an incident off the ball, not a foul, so it should have been a drop ball from where play stopped, not a pen.

Don't even get me started on the rest of his decisions either. Terrible ref, but Lansbury is a massive c@nt.

If the ball was still in play though then it is a direct free-kick or penalty from the incident.

If Lansbury hadn't made a meal of Shelvey lashing out at him and stood his ground when the inevitable shove came (he went down early but the push was going to happen), I would have been livid.

Fact was the push didn't happen but Angela went flying anyway. As he had throughout the 90 minutes. I can honestly say I have never seen any player go so long throwing himself down hoping for a homer referee to give in (and Ive never seen any referee in 20+ years so disgracefully biased as this clown)
Considering that a string of ex players took to social networks to voice their disbelief of the appalling refereeing - far from just Newcastle fans, chum - gives an idea just how bad it was.
But to me it was Lansbury's play acting which got the Newcastle fans more than anything. If a player can be served with bans after games for undetected fouls, this turd should get it too
December 20th. We're looking forward to Angela showing his face up here. Not that he will of course. His kind develop convenient injuries. But if he does. Pressure from 50,000 is far more intense than 20,000 fair weather fans

fans

Did any of them criticise Lansbury for the dive/trying to get a player sent off or have the same attitude as Tom (and most pundits do)?

If so then refs will keep making major mistakes as they get conned each week..

Of course everyone does it and if it goes for us then fans accept it at the time but in the end that can count against you I feel..
