The only two things that matter on Saturday surely?

Big game for us, our record now firmly states that we are incapable of beating anyone in the top half but probably better than most others at beating those in the bottom half, and with 17th, 15th, 24th and 19th in our next 4 games then we need to keep that trend going to stay in touch with the top 7.

Halliday now being confirmed as out for a number of weeks is a massive blow, sounds like we brought him back too soon (sure as hell didn't look like it mind you) which doesn't fill me with confidence for the BARRY CORR EXTRAVANGAZA, and continues to leave us with a bit of a selection dilemma on the right hand side.

I would suspect he'll go with the same XI as last week, although once again I'd like to see Lewis get a start and he now has a decent cameo to back that case up as well. Morecambe are on a good little run, 7 points against teams near the bottom has (barring administration) pretty much secured their safety, coupled with 2 good draws away at top 3 sides, and having now had the bonus of being paid as well they'll be in good spirits. I worry if we sit back and try and contain them that they might get after us and not let us ever get onto the front foot, so would very much like to see us have a go from the off, although I probably say that for most games.

Without the return of the Baz - 2-1 Cambridge
TRIUMPHANT BAZ RETURN - 9-0

Although we have lots of reasons for potentially having a down on Morecambe (FA Cup defeat, home defeats, Kevin Ellison, Barrow antipathy and a scouse manager), a visit to the Globe Arena remains one of my favourite awaydays and I have a soft spot for them.

Morecambe was a regular summer day out in school days (50's and 60's) - Happy Mount Park, donkey rides and illuminations. These days it means a trip to see dad, visit Leighton Moss (RSPB) and a night out in Lancaster - along with comedy villain Kevin Ellison, excellent meat & potato pies and (usually) 3 points and a decent performance. I've even joined the York faithful on the away terrace (in their Jason Walker days) to enjoy sunset over the West Terrace. We're in the seats again this time, so that will be one pleasure I'll miss.

Sympathy for Shrimps' current plight will be suspended for the afternoon, not that they need it (or earn it) on the field. Unbeaten in 2017, including draws at Doncaster & Carlisle and 3 points at Orient on Tuesday, is a better record than we can offer. With Barry Corr probably on the bench, the more significant news is that Brad Halliday will be out for few weeks and Greg Taylor and Leon Davies are probably still not fit - although we know to take Derry's sick reports with a shovel load of salt. If we do repeat the "back 3 experiment,"and I hope we don't, I trust we have a better option than playing Mingoia at wing-back.

I'd probably go with the following but Derry (and most fellow U's) wouldn't:

Norris
Clark, Legge, Roberts Carroll
Dunne, O'Neil
Mingoia, Berry, Dunk
Ikpeazu

A strong bench (even without BBBC) should allow us to step it up against a Morecambe team, with little in reserve, that have expended a lot of physical and mental energy over the last week - with 2 away games and all that's been going on. 1 - 2 to the U's would be a satisfactory outcome. I can't see a clean sheet.

Does anybody know how many minutes Corr played for at Northampton? Some reckon it was only some 35 mins, while others said it was 75 mins. Just curious is all, as I don't think he'll be in the side for this match, and probably not even on the bench. Still, if he's on the bench, then I don't think he'll feature at all as we'd have to be cruising at 3 nil or something for Derry to put him on. I don't think he'll risk him, and rightly so,if we're chasing the game as it's far too early to risk playing him.

It's now clear we can't beat the top sides so we need to beat sides like Morecambe, irrespective of the good run they're on atm. I convinced myself of this after the Luton game as i expected more out of that game with them missing 3 important players. Yet we didn't have a single shot on target. Then came the Plymouth match and I got my hopes up again because they're an entirely different unit when they're not playing at home, and we still failed to get a point at least.

U's 2 Morecambe 1

He played 35 minutes and Derry said he's unlikey to be on the bench................................so he'll probably be dishing out the pies.

To get this out of the way - The pies were good and plentiful and Barry Corr did play for the last 40 minutes or so and survived. It made little difference but at least we can move on.

Or maybe not - Uche was at his least effective that I've seen. Was BBBC's presence affecting him or is it just that everyone has sussed him?? Something was certainly affecting the rest because that was as limp and off the pace performance as I've seen at an away match since Colchester at the start of the season.

We were lucky to finish the first half level and lucky to only lose by 2. Morecambe were better - better organised, sharper and more together. The "3 at the back" exposed Leon again and he didn't get any better in the second half, when we reverted to a back 4 but were chasing shadows.

The mid-table, nothing-to-play-for thread beckons and I'm going for a beer or 3 in Lancaster.

I anticipate Yeovil might be better.........but it might not. A night out in Weston Super Mare is unlikely to be adequate compensation for another shower of sh*t like that.
