Those vids of Grimsby v Vale are actually pretty tame compared to what I witnessed as a kid at a Grimsby v Stoke game where at the end there was carnage on the pitch as our fans went onto the pitch to goad the Stoke fans and a load of Stoke fans broke through and there was a massive punch up on the pitch. :box:

Called an opponent a scumbag a maggot, a cheap lousy...Pretty hard to get away with when there’s no crowd.
Clear as day on the highlights, almost as though he was wearing a mic. As much as I know it's unacceptable, and he was rightly sent off, I really doubt he meant it in a genuinely homophobic context - education might be more appropriate than hanging him out to dry.

I agree. If we are going to go down the road of having to be perfect in everything we are supposed to say and do then lets at least give others the chance to show redemption for their perceived sins. Its either that or stop being so bloody thin skinned and accept that none of us are perfect. Being deliberately hateful is unacceptable and no correct thinking person should disagree with that. It is however getting to a point now with this PC thing that forcing people to behave in a way that is dictated to them causes as much resentment as it tries to prevent. If somebody says something you think is offensive it doesn't stop them thinking it if you stop them saying it. Changing minds is a solution, banning words is not.

I think he should get an extended suspension (6 to 9 games) and some sort of educational training. Education is the way but he needs to face some consequences for using a homophobic slur, even if it wasn't meant in a homophobic way.

If English is not his first language he has clearly heard the word used in a way that might not mean it the way its been taken. I have heard that word used in a manner that is not homophobic or meant to be. In some parts of the country it is a collection of sticks for kindling. Its also a food product. Obviously he said it in a derogatory way but might not know its other use and think its just a casual insult. Unless he is asked we do not know what he meant or how he meant it. We have to find a sensible solution to this constant hijacking of words by the easily offended or we will all end up carefully miming to prevent offending somebody. I doubt anybody on here is politically correct when in the company of their friends and i doubt anybody on here hasn't said something that is equal or worse in the heat of the moment.

One interesting nugget of information came out of the ElGlosico match and that is the two managers are good friends with mutual respect towards each other.

That became apparent when Michael Duff referred to Mark Cooper as ‘Coops’ in an interview.

This friendship was later confirmed from a source inside Cheltenham.

That is terrific good news. The County is too small to have ‘bun-fights’ which was a regular occurrence during the reign of the previous Cheltenham regime.

The two clubs could now help each other to promotion.

Possibly this friendship stopped Duff complaining about the advertising boards being moved closer to the pitch or the pitch covers along its entire length preventing Tozer making any of of his legendary long throws. He did not manage one during the entire game.

That is not cheating, gamesmanship yes, but not cheating.

Watch out for other clubs to follow FGR’s lead in home matches against Cheltenham.

Cheltenham can help FGR to promotion by losing tomorrow....

Sam Allardyce coined that strategy years ago when we had Dave Challinor. They were proper throws, he could get the ball to the back post from anywhere in the attacking half. Held the world record for a while.

For reference, I like Allardyce as much as I like Cooper. It's no surprise that both used the same underhand tactic.

Looking at Grimsby, so glad we didnt appoint bookies favourite Paul Hurst for the job, and that's not hindsight on my part, never fancied him at Bradford City in the first place. Am I right in saying Grimsby have lost every game under him so far. Grimsby looked doomed along with Sarfend now

I get that Holloway is bonkers and a dinosaur of a manager, but are you happy with Hurst so far, was he your first choice personally?, and do you think he will save you from the dreaded drop?
We drew 0-0 with Southend, so I think that's four defeats and a draw. However, we definitely deserved points against Cambridge and Stevenage. We're in one of those ruts at the bottom of the table when most of the time it's your own fault, but then even when you're good value for a draw or a win, it's taken away from you by shite refereeing, worldie goals against you or just the savage cruelty we got on Saturday.

None of this is down to Hurst in my opinion and I hope he is given the time that he needs, whether that be in League Two or The Conference. If he saves us this season, he'll now have worked a miracle. If he doesn't, we've got a manager who we know is up to the task of getting us back up. Long term, he's without doubt the best option for me.

I'm not sure that i'd say Stevenages winner was savage cruelty - it was just shocking defence.

More in the context that we battered them for half the match and even a point would have been harsh on us on reflection, so to have that taken away as you're still celebrating the equaliser for what would be only your second point in ages while you're down in the bottom two is indeed an undeniably cruel blow.

It’s an awful goal, worse than the hoof ball ones we’ve conceded in recent weeks against FGR, Scunny and Colchester as all the players are in their own half and he’s done them into the 18 yard box.

Killer that though, remember us equalising at QPR going nuts in the away end after 92 minutes only to lose it seconds later. Worst feeling from the high to the low.

A lot of bitching on Saturday from Cheltenham fans about the advertising hoardings and frost covers. I genuinely couldn't give a monkey's toss. A team has got to do what's right for them and, as long as it's within the rules, then why shouldn't they do it.

The hoardings and covers issue is the same as Toze using a towel at home games. No rules have been broken and it's on us to work around that.

Cruellest one I can ever remember was poor old Woking, they never had much luck against us our record against them is P9 W8 D1 L0 and the one draw they managed to get against us they were winning 1-0 and then we equalised in injury time. Then Woking re-took the lead think it was about 90+3 and we still managed to equalise again when Disley chucked himself on the floor in the box and the ref bought it and the Shop scored the penalty.
Always felt a bit sorry for Woking the poor bastards.

Tbf we only gave away one throw in a dangerous area all game, but I would have thought that Tozer could have run up the line to get momentum if need be? Wouldn't mind us working on our own throw ins rather then trying so hard to stop yours.

You are going to have to explain that one
Ended Martin Pringle's career with a malicious horror challenge. Double leg break, everyone in the ground heard the snap. Challinor only got a yellow. Carlton Palmer who was his manager at Stockport at time subbed him off and fined him two weeks wages. Challinor is absolutely hated by all Town fans.

Not surprised it was the worst Grimsby side Garry Hill's ever seen if they managed to get a draw out of it.

I think Palmer was sent off for two yellows too, one of them for remonstrating with the ref to send Challinor off. A certain Mark Clattenberg was the ref.

Pringle tore them to bits that night and the challenge was purely malicious, no matter when Challinor comes up against us again, he’ll have one hell of a lot of abuse, bellend.

Yeah, it was Clattenberg. I'd forgotten that. I think Challinor was Fylde manager when they went up to the Conference maybe? Would have quite liked to have been in the crowd that welcomed him to BP if we'd have still been down there then.

I only ever remember Challinor being mild mannered and clean - it certainly sounds out of character. I wonder if something was said or done to incite it?
