That's a pretty solid appointment for Blackpool, did fairly well at Blackburn while having his hands tied through most of it. However Blackpool wont give him the tools to succeed and to stop the rot there is some task, good luck Gary Bowyer you will need it.

Depends what he can achieve given the clubs state though - is the club still at war with the oystons? Seems odd they've stuck around.

Had they been bothered about the money surely they'd have fucked off after they went down or the first season they didn't go back up.

Interesting that after inflated success both regulars in recent history have returned to division 4.

Fans are fuming on BHS for some reason. What do they expect? I thought Barry Ferguson was a shoe in for this job so they should think themselves lucky.

Presuming they keep the majority of the squad they currently have I think they'll be fine, McDonald built a solid squad really.

What is puzzling me... is the fact Gary Bowyer would want to be Blackpool's manager. I thought he would have at least waited out for a league one side to come in for him.

the fans believe any manager appointed is an Oyston stooge so hate him about 30 seconds after appointment, McDonald was named MugDonald on the day he arrived and i'd expect the same venom here.

I think he may get resources though as the Oystons must be getting abit worried at present even with their bunker style approach, Blackpool fans en masse supposedly not going back anymore and season tickets not selling at all, their forum mentions about 150-200 sold! even though price wise they have a very good deal.

Even if they have miney we all know at this level money absolutely drains out if you get little income and apart from one home match.....home to Carlisle they won't have away support in numbers.

i am just surprised they'd rather not create a new club, may be a quicker route for them.

but for all fans moan, complain, protest, argue and shout, one thing brings them back and its a team winning and suddenly fans hop back onto the bandwagon as if nothing happened. Oystons may find it cheaper in L2 to spend on team and win fans back then go cheap again and lose more money through lack of income.

Best of luck to Gary Bowyer. He did reasonably well with us despite not having much to spend. It'll be a tricky job at Blackpool as the fans are an angry bunch (and understandably so) but I really hope he does well.

Decent appointment on a footballing level but as a few have said I am surprised Bowyer has put himself into what has proven to be a lose-lose situation for managers recently. The Blackpool fans seem quite happy to vent their frustration on just about anyone and as the Oystons are keeping a low profile, it is the poor buggers on the playing side who will receive the brunt of it.

I would guess that Blackpool fans have now reached the stage where they don't care what level the club reduces itself to as long as it removes their owners (who may I add have surprised me in how long they have remained at the club - probably sums up what type of people the Blackpool people are dealing with). I guess this will prove to be either the making of or the utter destruction of Gary Bowyer as a football manager

I don't think these so-called poison chalices are anywhere near as bad for a manager's career as made out. There are only so many positions available as a professional football manager and any manager currently in a job will be doing his reputation more good than a manager out of a job, or managing at semi-pro level unless it can be clearly shown that the team's failings are down to the manager's incompetence. If anything managing under a nut-job owner has the advantage that they aren't expected to succeed and it isn't assumed to be their fault if they don't.

Exactly.

Dougie Freedman and Steve Evans are prime examples, they were on a hiding to nothing but have come out of the clubs actually looking like better managers, especially Freedman.

What is actually the Oystons end game or objective? If they want to make money out of the football club, they can't afford to run it down so much that Blackpool will lose their Football League status. If they're looking to force the club out of Bloomfield Road, then yes it does make sense to run the club further down.
