Blackpool have offered the managerial position at Blackpool to League two Burton Albion manager Gary Rowett, despite Belgian Jose Riga still being in charge at Bloomfield Road.
The current Blackpool manager, Jose Riga, fell out with the clubs chairman at the start of the season, Karl Oyston.
After talks between the two clubs Rowett later said
"Following discussions with Blackpool, I have decided to remain at Burton Albion for the foreseeable future.
"I feel as though it is not the right job for me at the present time."
Blackpool have been struggling and looks like they will be receiving a new manager sooner rather than later with a poor start to the season.
Blackpool's start to the season is as follows:
9 Aug: 0-2 v Nottingham Forest (A)
12 Aug: 0-1 v Shrewsbury Town (A) League Cup first round
16 Aug: 1-2 v Blackburn (H)
19 Aug: 1-2 v Brentford (H)
23 Aug: 0-1 v Wigan (A)
30 Aug: 1-2 v Millwall (A)
Burton's statement claims that Oyston approached chairman Ben Robinson on Monday for permission to speak to Rowett about their managerial position, which was granted, and subsequently Rowett met with Blackpool representatives on Tuesday.
Rowett added: "We've made an excellent start to this season, winning seven out of eight games.
"I feel we have an excellent group of players in the squad currently. I enjoy working with them immensely and this is a very exciting time to be involved at Burton Albion."
