Well with just a week to go may as well get this started.

Couldn't really have got much of a tougher game to start with but we beat them with ease last season so a win for us isn't out of the question.

Cody McDonald and Doug loft both hoping to be fit for this.

I would go for

Morris
Ehmer. Egan. Oshilaja

Jackson. Garmston

Houghton. Loft

Dack

McDonald. Williamson

Subs
Nelson
Hessenthaler
A.Morris
Mcglashan
Donnelly

Prediction 2-2

Would agree with that team but would prob have Norris ahead of Williamson up front based on his (Norris') form towards the end of last season and preseason. I am wary of the Adkins factor and also Billy Sharp for Sheff Utd. But we've made some decent additions as well, so I will go for a 1-1.

I see they're bringing close to 2000 down, always like to see a big away contingent so should be a good atmosphere.

Yeah, Norris for Williamson but other than that I agree with that line up - providing Cody and Loft are fit. If they aren't, then Morris and Donnelly/Williamson to come in. Great to have a decent squad going into the season.

Will be a big test for sure, but a great game to have first up. Beat them relatively comfortably last season despite leaving it late, but I'd probably take a draw if offered now.

Finally the season is nearly back !

Obviously most Blades fans are positive ahead of new season with Adkins in charge and most fans are of every club as you just never know what will happen.

Great to have Collins back in at centre back and if we can add to defence before season starts then that would be a bonus, we look good going forward so I will expect quite a few high scoring games this season.

Gillingham will give us a good test on opening day so I will go for 2-1 Blades win.

Full of new season blind optimism. Despite not wanting Sharp I'm now convinced he's going to bag at least 100 goals from Murphy's crosses and Adams will have a feast from lay-offs and Baxter through balls. And even Higdon will suddenly become a magician in front of goal despite rarely getting on ahead of Sammon who will be this years Grant Holt. And then we have Done to return from injury. Cant see us failing to not get into quadrupel figures for goals scored.

Howard
Freeman Collins McEveley Harris
Adams Baxter Basham Murphy
Sammon Sharp

^^would be my guess

2-1 Blades win. Sharp & Adams.

Less than an hour to go.

Good luck to all the teams in League One.

May the best team win, and unaffected by poor refereeing decisions.

Long
Freeman Collins McEveley McFadzean
Woolford Basham Baxter Murphy
Shard Adams

Bench: Howard, J Wallace, Scougall, Sammon, Reed, Higdon, K Wallace

Excited to see how Adams does upfront with Sharp and surprised Sammon isn't starting, strong bench. Surprised Long gets the nod but I think Howard may have a minor injury, so obvious that our defence is the weakest part looking at that team.

2-2 draw is my realistic prediction with Sharp & Adams opening their accounts for the season.

well this is embarassing. And I don't care if I sound big time charlie here but we shouldn't be getting trounced by trash like Gillingham

Who is that dreadful co-commentator on Radio Sheffield, someone Edwards? What a total arse. We'll be no better than mid-table? Dream on sonny.

Sheffield United looked horribly unbalanced in the first half. The keeper though, as bad performance as I've seen. 3 set piece goals for Gillingham mind, and without Legge!

Outstanding performance from us and there's no need for calling us 'trash' just because we trounced you. The away end applauded Dack's goal and many Blades stayed behind to clap us off the pitch, which demonstrates something a little more respectful.

Well I've not been to any of the pre-season friendlies so haven't seen Long but I was amazed when he put him in goal instead of Howard.

Well done Gills

I suspect blade1889 is a far more reasonable chap than some of his fellow Blades, who are currently describing us as a "Conference side" and our loftiest ambition being to finish "in the top 15" on their own forums.

Simply put, we were too powerful. We ran harder, jumped higher, challenged more strongly and United just couldn't deal with it. The full backs were my two MOMs, although Osadebe I guess deserved it too. It wasn't a perfect performance, but it wasn't far off for a first attempt.

Osadebe was extremely good, I don't think ive seen anyone put in as much effort as Dack did for a while either. His goal was worth the entrance fee alone.

We were fantastic, not a poor performer among them. Was very surprised by Sheff Utd as I will admit I was fearing a bit of a hiding but we were the ones that dished it out. Their goalkeeper was not one of the better ones I've seen shall we say. We have definitely got a team here.

Sheffield Utd looked like a lower league team to me, and after we went 3-0 up it looked like we were going to score every time we attacked!
I'd have settled for a draw before the game, as some our strongest players weren't playing; Cody, Loft, Ehmer, Garmston etc, not realising of course how poor the opposition were going to be. Feel sorry for their fans who travelled.
COYG!!
