Last season = York had played 28 games and were on 32 pts. This was 13 pts away from play offs - and they had played more games than most.

Looking at this does suggest that someone could do a midtable surge! I still think it will be hard as the next 18 games saw York get 11 wins, 6 draws. 1 defeats and 39 points.

Forget the play offs, at least 5 teams have a shot of winning the bloody thing. On a knife edge at the top of the league at the moment; no one seems to want to win it. We've got a lot more winnable games coming up than we did in late December/January.

When we take 6 points from our next two games, we'll be on the edge of the play offs. :)

Looking back as well, one of the reasons York made it was Oxford imploded! After 26 games they were on 45 points, so would have needed 72 to make the play offs - 27 points from 20 games - they only got 17 points!

I do agree Cambridge could make a bit of a surge up the table, Newport are now on a run of two defeats in a row so will need to quickly turn this around. They clearly hate playing sides away in the "Anglia" region shipping 10 goals vs us, Cambridge and Luton!

Before any other Wimbledon fans post re our chances I will settle it for us. We are far too inconsistent and our record is as mid table as you get. I will add a footnote though in that after losing tubbs we are actually stronger now than with Tubbs. 9th to 14tth place finish for us.

I fancy us to make a run at the playoffs. Our next 4 or 5 games are against the so called 'lesser' teams. If we can keep out first 11 fit then I think we have a chance.

We will probably lose those games and end up fighting the drop again now.

Yep afew clubs have a chance, I aid it afew days ago.....where on earth have Stevenage come from?

That one clearly shows that anyone could rise as I've just been looking at them as relegation battlers with Westley close to the sack all season then clearly they've just had a decent run of late and suddenly hey presto promotion battlers.

think Exeter did similar earlier in season.

I still think Wycombe are doing it now to a certain extent (riding a wave of momentum rather than real quality). They looked average against us and Mansfield battered them going by the highlights.

They have lost two key players I beleive (Scowen and Cowan Hall).

Anyway back on topic, I think Cambridge or Morecambe would be most likely to go on a late surge, they have good managers and the right amount of quality to do it.

I'm pretty sure Wycombe are going to be up there come the end of the season.

I'm leaning towards a Shrewsbury, Burton and Wycombe top three.

Play-off for us i reckon. Losing2 of our best players Josh Scowen and Paris Cowan-Hall recently has stifled the chances we were making and unless some new faces arrive soon with our small squad we could struggle when injuries and suspensions hit.
It's hard to see who will make a late charge up the table but at a push i'd go for Northampton who got rid of a lot of players recently and brought some more in.

You're unbeaten in 10 that can't be bad! Think we are nailed on to finish in the play-offs

Its surprising how beneficial getting rid of several players has been. Especially in the case of Langmead who was a huge fans favourite, and Roberston who was solid back up and played 20 games for us this season.

That being said Holmes, Maloney and Taylor have all been excellent since joining. Cheltenham fans, clearly hes not the best techincally, but surely every team at this level could do with an enforcer type, why was Taylor let go?

5 of which were draws, the worrying thing is that the goals have dried up as since December 13th we have failed to score more than a goal a game and we need Paul Hayes back from injury quickly.

A good run of form (16 points from a possible 18) has thrown us into contention, Westley was under massive pressure before these results and to an extent he's still fighting for his job, he's out of contract in the summer and if our play-off challenge dwindles it wouldn't surprise me if the club and Westley were to go their separate ways.

Whether we stay in contention will depend on our away form, if we're able to consistently pick up points on the road we'll be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.

Westley seems to have settled on a side in recent weeks, it's great to have two out and out fullbacks playing regularly, we look better for it defensively (although far from perfect) and partnerships are being formed down both flanks. We look strong across the midfield and with Zola and Marriott returning to fitness we have reasonable options up top too.

That said this is the same squad and management team a huge percentage of our fan base (myself included) was questioning just a month or so ago. I hope we have turned a corner, the response to our defeat last weekend will give us some indication as to whether we have or whether the previous 5 or 6 matches has simply been a flash in the pan.

Is it still too late to buy a ticket for the Luton train?

7th place (York) only had 71 points last season and P/O winners Fleetwood only had 76 points.

If we have a February similar to January then we could be this years team to sneak into the playoffs.

Huge ask and a few injuries could knock us back again though.

Generally you need to aim for 70 points to be play off contenders.
Mansfield have 20 games left and need 14 wins. Can't see us doing that, but you never know.

I'd be amazed to see us anywhere near the playoffs to be honest, this season I'm happy with a safe mid table finish. If we do manage to stop up then I reckon we'll be dark horses next season as there's massive potential in the squad to be a very good team, but I don't think we're going to realise that potential just yet.

Luckily for us the two sides directly above and the two directly below also lost yesterday so whilst it's still disappointing it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

Our chances of making the play-offs have been dealt a blow with the news that Marriott, Pett and Whelpdale are all out injured, doesn't seem like we've got anything in the budget to go out and add to the squad either so we'll have to battle on with what we've got.
