Watch out for a visit from the Horwich halfwit. He is back from his latest sectioning.
I see you are enjoying some popcorn at the latest encounter. As i said to them. Its easier than getting a bite off a starving piranha in a sink.

A bit of news on our forum, which may be of interest to Grimsby fans. Joe Bunney (Ex Dale and more recently at Blundell Park) has tweeted that the medical profession have given him the all clear to resume his football career. As a haematologist was mentioned, it looks as though he had some sort of issue with his blood.

Hope he makes it back again - while there are better players about he's no mug, and always put a decent shift in when at Dale.
Yeah this got posted on The Fishy, but cheers for the update. He didn't have a massive impact here and was perhaps unlucky in that he joined a relegation battle but as you say he put the effort in. I kind of wonder if he could be converted to a CB role. He has a weird build for a full back but he's fairly pacey and aggressive. Not sure what he's like in the air though.

Great news that he's been given the all clear.

Started with us as a Centre Forward. Got a few goals, but not really a target man, despite his height.

Keith Hill moved him to left back, did pretty well for a season or so, then Northampton bought him and his career seemed to stall...

New owners Jason Stockwood and Andrew Pettit and new Chief Exec Debbie Cook did a fans Q&A on Wednesday before the England game and one the posters on The Fishy reported back:

Before the main event Jason walked around the tables and spoke to everyone and then they got stuck into questions. It was a good night. They confirmed that Cheapside was leased and they are looking to have a local training facility that will bring the academy, first team and community together and be owned by the club.

A new stadium manager has been appointed and improvements are ongoing at BP with a new tannoy system being looked at. There are less restricted views in the Upper because they have installed a glass barrier.

They touched on Shutes and he will 100% not be joining the consortium at a later date.

They are constantly building connections and learning what mistakes others have made with facilities etc with the aim of not making it themselves. They touched on Burnley and Fulham I think off the top of my head.

They have taken feedback from others on what objectives they need to set for Hurst to be empowered in his job and were meeting him today to discuss these which will go beyond 3 points on a Saturday.

Jason said you won't be hearing any outlandish targets from them. Championship in 5 years anyone? The focus is on doing things right, having a culture and success following it naturally.

They all said what game they were looking forward to most:

Jason: Stockport away on August Bank Holiday because his wife is from there. He also knows their owner who has similar values to them but is a bit more forthcoming with his targets than 1878 will ever be.

Andrew: Notts County away because it's a big ground and we should make lots of noise there.

Debbie: Chesterfield away for family reasons and it falls around her daughters birthday.

Oh and because we are in non-league you can listen to BBC Radio Humberside commentary online!

Given the way the that Andrew Pettit is holding his microphone (at least I thnk it's his microphone) I'm not surprised that Debbie Cook is looking the other way.

Great interview with James McKeown for the new podcast from DN35.

Talks about the changes that the club has undergone since the new owners have come in and the renewed sense of optimism. Interesting to hear that he says Debbie Cook could turn out to be our best signing this summer. Also talks about the whole Dean Henderson/Bignot/transfer request issue, which I've always suspected he acted a bit petulantly about but to be fair to him he talks about why he handed in a request and it sounds very plausible that Bignot didn't act particularly professionally.

Thanks wasn't going to listen but decided to after reading that and glad I did, good and interesting stuff on lots of things.

Particularly liked the part about Scott and Hurst, and how everyone saw Scott as the shouty one, but it was the other way round and Scott was nice Mon to Friday and then a bag of nerves on Saturday, whereas Hurst was the ruthless one, and he could see Scott wasn't cut out for management.

Said Bignot wasn't honest with him and so lost his trust, and if he was honest about dropping him, instead of saying he wanted to see how good Henderson was, (which Macca said was obvious how good he was) he wouldn't have agreed with it but would have been fine with it. Instead lost his trust, but how good he was on the coaching side with great ideas but not the man management.

One for the Wrexham fans on Pearson coming back as well, how there was nothing from Hurst until about an hour before he was to sign his contract with Wrexham, when Hurst asked Pearson if he was interested in coming back. Pearson quickly texted Macca to ring him asasp. Macca said about the new owners, saying do you want "some Americans" who'll be gone in a couple years or owners with the community and passion for the club at heart. (Think he was joking before Wrexham get TRIGGERED).

Amond and Akinde he hated playing against and Amond is a nice guy but boring! How Brodie was nice but a very bad influence on the dressing room.

On moving to Motherwell and how it was close and he went to look around, and professionally he could have been playing European football (all be it qualifiers) and be in the shop window more, maybe eventually moving higher, but sometimes it's just about being happy and he and his family are very happy in Grimsby.

How last season was a car crash from minute 1. Holloway talked a "good game" (bollocks in other words) and he was going to sign a French keeper who hadn't played for 18 months based of a video he had seen! The club got so many things wrong on and off the pitch from the minute covid hit.

On the new ownership and how little things like having your kit washed now with a full time kit man, first time since he's been here, having to wash his own kit every week. But also interesting that we have our own training ground which is unusual for this level so players are impressed but then after being there day in day out you realise its falling apart and the pitches are rubbish. Yet with the improvements Pearson commented to him (after not being here for a few years) about much the place has improved.

Like you say on Debbie being the signing of the summer, with all the small changes going on at the club, that while won't get you 3 points on a Saturday, make a big difference in the culture and attitude around the place. Little things like having a TV in the gym for music and stuff just encourages people to stay and train which in turn encourages the group cohesion and togetherness rather than everyone jumping in their cars and leaving when training is done.

Bloody hell even we've always had a full time kit man and we must be the poorest team in the top 6 divisions.

I think I did know this before, but I'd forgotten it. Is it normal for the players of a professional to be washing their own kits? It sounds like absolute madness to me. Would be interested to hear about what other clubs do for this?

Also, I get what you mean about not being that arsed about this one. I've listened to McKeown on quite a few different podcasts before but I don't think they've been Town specific ones (he's definitely been on D3D4 a few times). Was really good to hear him talk a bit more in depth about things. I liked how he wasn't that arsed about Town fans giving him shit when he's not performed well. I don't really condone that from the supporters but the fact that he understands that and accepts it says a lot. He just gets the town, the club and the fans more than 99% of players I've seen in a Town shirt.

Good luck to Grimsby Town after your recent takeover. The statement on your website sounds positive and the owners appear to be Grimsby fans which I think makes a massive difference.

As we are also going through a hostile takeover utilising our supporters Trust I'm praying we're able to get rid of the Lee Power Cancer from the club and get a proper, fan inputted owner who isn't thinking of his own pockets all the time.

Thanks mate, sad to see you lot struggling now. Hope you can pull through and get some new positive ownership...also from a purely selfish perspective, I hope you sort yourselves out before getting down here as the last thing we need is another established league club coming down here adding to the bottleneck!

Almost finished listening to the podcast, some really eye opening bits in that, the fact we’ve never had a kit-man is staggering.

Wish the guys presenting it would’ve pressed him on a few bits a bit further, felt like Macca really would’ve answered absolutely anything

We could learn a lot from how Lincoln managed to engage their community and almost quadrupling their average attendance. Of course, on field success helps.

Thankfully for Debbie, our advice will be far better than the advice Fenty tried to give us a few years back.

We LOVE Paul. We LOVED putting FOUR past him in 2013 so much, we did it AGAIN in 2016. His explanation? "Halifax were on fucking fire". :fl:

You started it...... :bdick:

Lol. You do realise every single Town player had been on a massive pissup for days leading up to that right? Really took the shine off getting promoted though. The one when you battered us at The Shay was a much better win.

I wouldn't confidently say that we're the best in any position on the pitch, but we've probably got one of, if not the, best manager(s) in the division. Carry on though by all means!
