Quite happy to see Vialli and his mercenaries leave in 2002.

Sad to see Zola go and when we sold the likes of Helguson and King leaving us without our top striker.

I don't mind people spelling stuff wrong, but you've barely even tried spelling mercenaries properly.

He definitely just gave up half way through that one.

Unless he genuinely meant to use the word "mercerise" meaning "treat (cotton fabric or thread) under tension with caustic alkali to impart strength and lustre."

Xabi Alonso or Suarez. We just turned to shit when they left.

Carragher, Hyypia and Gerrard more for sentimental reasonings, but the time was probably right on every one of those, although I feel Carra may have had one more year in him as we leaked goals when we finished 2nd the season after he left, but he may not have made much difference with his ageing legs.

Ferguson leaving was an obvious disappointment. Most players left had gone off the boil by the time they'd gone (Van Nistelelrooy) or went for other reason (McGrath) obvious exception would be Ronaldo but that was business, stop us winning more European Cups but still won leagues. Maybe Stam too, the whole blanc disaster may not of seemed a good idea....

Happiest, i was pleased when Andy Cole came to the club. i'll be very pleased when De Gea signs a new 5 year contract :)

Sadddddddddd - When Roberto left for a tiny team with no scope for potential.

Happiest - When Brenda left for Livepool. I knew all the deluded scousers would buy into his philosophy/formula/way of working/culutre setter bullshit before slowly realising that he's an absolute fraud.

For me, Warnock and Holloway leaving was the saddest In regards to managers. Gutted when Gallen left us, more recently Shittu and Cook.

Happy when Paul Hart was sacked! Even though it added to the circus. Happy this year when Wright Phillips was released

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
saddest when Shawn Wright-Phillips left us to go to Chelsea

You shouldn't have been. That was, of course back in the days when decent players were not only expected to move to higher level sides, but actively encouraged by pundits, fan and the media alike. Not like now when they are all mercenaries worthy only of death threats and racism.

Meanwhile, I was gutted when Kinkladze left. And the arrival of Tevez was spectacular.

In recent times, happiest when Allardyce left. Was also elated when hearing that somehow (!) we'd signed Tevez and Mascherano. I was so happy with the Argentine signings I went out and for the first and only time bought a West Ham shirt with a player's name on it - Mascherano.

Was really sad when Dicks left for Liverpool, was my favourite player when a kid, but overall the deal turned out great (Burrows, Marsh and money for Chapman) and Dicks returned a year or so later anyway.

Also sad after relegation in 2003 (and failure to get promotion a year later), which lead to DiCanio, Kanoute, Defoe, Johnson, Carrick and Cole all leaving. Sadder was the realisation that in the preceding years that was our chance to have a basis for challenging the bigger clubs in the league without relying on billionaire.

I was gutted when Lambert left us last May. Southampton legend. Should have stayed.

On the manager side, Niger Adkins sacking was a disappointing one. Two back to back promotions under him and we looked like we were finally coming to terms with PL football after a poor start. Really hope he does well at Sheffield United after a poor spell with Reading.
