Hi All,

I'm currently in the process of writing a new article and I was looking for some opinions on the issue of hatred or a fail culture within British sport, particularly football.

I recently posted an article regarding Harry Kane and I got the feeling a lot of people were to determined to see him fail. For me personally, that seems crazy as I want to see the best players playing as well as possible (unless it's against my team) but particularly because he's a young English player I don't understand the thought process in wanting to see him fail.

I can understand where this hatred comes from if a player has a bad attitude, people want to see them taken down a peg or two. Is it down to the gulf between fans and players? At the highest level, the players perhaps aren't in touch with the real world, so the fans don't feel the connection to them like they would have thirty years ago?

It's the same with the England team, I got the feeling last summer, that people wanted the England team to fail, just so they could tell their mates that they called it ages ago. I support Bristol Rovers so it's hard to comment, but of the football league fans I know, they are generally bigger supporters of the national side. Is it different for Premier League fans?

Any opinions would be much appreciated, personally I think it's an interesting subject, it isn't just football, it's all sports in this country.

Thanks

Fran

Perhaps if you're a loyal Arsenal fan then you might feel something negative towards him. However, I can't understand why any other England supporter would want to see him fail; it can only be good news for England if he's improving and on top form surely?

Interesting point about the Football League fans and Premier League fans as well, I wonder whether there's anything behind that or not.

Can't stand him. Hope he never tastes an ounce of joy and dies having lived a life full of regret.

Other than that, hope he does well!!!! :shifty:

It's more an 'I told you so' culture than courting failure. I don't know anyone apart from my Arsenal supporting mate that wants Kane to fail, although plenty think he'll struggle to perform as his did last year. It's hardly surprising people are negative about the national team.

I hate Liverpool FC because through violence and murder (Heysel) they systematically brought to an end the most successful part of my clubs history and the opportunity to become a major European club.

Plus they also winge and cry and request rule changes at every opportunity when things don't go their way.

Finally the fans are complete delusional whoppers of the highest order and 90% have no real affinity to Liverpool the City.

Harry Kane is boss though and i dont hate any other players or clubs.

It happens quite often sadly. We built Gazza up only to knock him down, then the same happened with Beckham, Rooney etc

It's sad really. Although at England games, the fans do tend to get behind all of the players more than they did in previous years. I remember times when non-United fans used to boo the likes of Neville and Beckham.
