If any body has read my tale of an away day in Mexborough in 1974/5 season when my head butted fists, knees and Doc martens boots all day then you will be surprised that there is a humerous part 2 to this tale. The original match was an FA Trophy tie, the replay should have been in mid week but owing to several Mexborough players not being able to get time off work it had to be arranged for the following Saturday.
At that time I ran the programme shop at the old Eton Park ground, as usual I arrived quite early in the day to get the shop set up, just as I got to the ground a mini bus turned up and a load of fans got out wearing green and white, I knew from the previous week Mexborough played in white but suddenly I heard these guys speak, they were definitely from the west country and this was confirmed when I saw a banner with Yeovil Town on it ! Yeovil had been our original opponents that day in the Southern league Premier division but some how these fans had not got the information and had driven all the way from Somerset to watch their team only to find out Burton were playing Mexborough ! After the initial shock having spoken to me they descended on the social club and then as most of them were collectors they came to the programme shop(which I had stocked up with programmes from all levels of football and a lot of teams you will have never heard of), they marvelled at the selection on offer and spent a fortune in there, it made the trip worthwhile for them as they trudged back to the minibus before kick off with bags and boxes laden with football programmes. In fact it was the best days trading I ever had !
Football wise they stood with the Albion fans and saw us win comfortably 3-0 to progress to the next round.

Turned up at the wrong time before, about 8 years ago when we played chelsea I had completely forgot the match had been changed to an early kick off for sky. I ended up walking to the ground at about half 2 only to see floods of fans walking towards me. Asked someone what was going on they just said we got beat 5-0. Glad i did get the time wrong.
