There are 3 reasons why pads and helmets should be removed.

1. safety: helmets are the main cause of brain injuries in the sport. this is mostly due to constant bumping of helmets each play (especially lineman). if players don't wear helmets they do not naturally bump into each other in such a fashion. pads and helmets cause more injuries than they prevent.

2. restrictive: pads and helmets reduce the athletic ability, therefore reducing quality of play.

3. cost: this is a big reason why the sport is having trouble growing internationally.

I have this argument with clueless British wankers that mock the sport because it's I quote "not as hard as rugby" bullshit, the type of tackles allowed in Gridiron are the reason we need helmets and padding, anyone could see that if they had half a brain and watched a full game of both Rugby Union and NFL

With proper tackling we don't need helmets. As I've stated, they cause more harm than good in regards to brain safety. I am not talking about the "toughness" of the sport, that comment is completely irrelevant here.

When I first played gridiron in the 1980s in this country we did not play in pads for a year or two. Very often we went to the camping store and bought loads of Karimat and cut it up. One team we played against wore puffer jackets. We realised that too many people were getting injuries so we got the kit.
