We won’t threaten with one attacker on!
We throw a wobbler every single second half without fail, it's just whether you take the chances that we gift wrap for you in that time. There's still goals in this for you lot.

We’d need to get near the goal for that to happen! Bet you Aspin doesn’t change it until it’s too late.

FFS were that shit today even Hooper has scored. Huge questions for Aspin after this result.

First home win, first back to back wins of the season, first clean sheet at home, both strikers scoring, couldn’t ask for more really.

Good 90 minute performance from us which is extremely rare nowadays. Some excellent attacking play should've seen us score a couple more. Still got lots to improve on and of course need to find consistency but that was a good glimpse of things to hopefully come.

Caught second half on Facebook. Absolutely fucking dreadful, virtually last season level. The optimism gone. How can we play one of the best sides seven days ago and give such a quality performance then go there and put that in! Livid with that and huge concerns with on paper three far tougher assignments to follow.

We have huge problems that’s now five of our six losses when Manny has been injured.

Aspin will get battered tonight and rightly so, woeful selection and tactics.

Aspin , from undeserved hero to zero?

He has phases where we do well and he gets things right, then he just completely loses the plot with random selections and tactics... all he needed was to swap injured Manny for Hardcastle... job done... not take off all our attacking players bar Pope against a side that’s been beaten regularly at home and conceded a lot. Totally cost us any chance today as he did at Tranmere. It seems every step forwards we take we go back one soon after.

Worry is Lincoln will beat us easily next week then we go Oldham and Stevenage... today was hugely important ahead of them.

I don’t know what the answer is... he’s wildly inconsistent and it’s holding back any progress.

He was a hero as a player , never been a hero as a manager ever .
Apparently angry exchanges with fans at the end, as I said on other thread too many Vale fans think 17th is an achievement.
I predicted nil prior to the game. Just funny Hooper notched , I reckon Sam Kelly would have a chance to if he was still at Grimsby.
Pretty tepid and oh so predictable Vale.

On the plus side we have beaten Cambridge, Northampton and Crewe which all look relegation six pointers at this minute.
Oh well Lincoln and Oldham away might lead to a good points haul !!!

He certainly weirdly appeared a hero on here since his appointment. Tbh it’s common for ex players (heroes) to get premature adulation as a manager. Stuart Pearce at Forest was a prime example

He’s been battered loads on here to be fair, especially early season. He’s got a far better squad but utilising it so poorly. He’s had a shocking few days with the MK substitutions on top. We need our injuries to clear up, notably Manny as we seem to be so reliable on a freebie from Aldershot... not won without him, not even got a point without him! Only lost once with him playing the 90.

He wasn't a hero last season VM , merely kept us up because Chesterfield and Barnet were worse.
Not sure why you think this, I'm sure a few went over the top for example when we battered Luton but under Aspin in the main we crawled to safety and didn't win away after December.
None of the above makes him a hero
I was referring to last season Darren

Going to say! Last season at New Year he’d actually got us 11 points clear I believe!! We stayed up by 1 point so was rightly slaughtered for a really poor second half of the season when he had shown we were capable of getting results.

Just what I read on here, countless times last season, you must surely remember? I guessed it was simply cos he was following a massively disliked Brown and he was a very good player for Vale but his results as a manager?

Got to say, although we won fairly comfortably, the referee today was absolutely shocking. Worst I've seen for a long, long time.

He got cut some slack last year compared to this as it wasn’t his squad, essentially he was to polish a turd, this year though he’s got his own squad. He was raved about up to New Year as his first three months were superb, won three in a row early on, had the form in December when we won 4 and drew 1 of 5 including trashing Luton 4-0 and beating Coventry. It was after that it went downhill.

This season he has cost us with random tactics and selections and fans especially away from home are right to kick off. You don’t go away to side that’s won something silly like 2 in 17 at home and set up 4-5-1 with five essentially non attacking midfielders.

My last thought as I'm sick of feeling miserable for the last 2 and a half seasons is thank goodness for Macc and Morecambe otherwise we are the next Chesterfield in waiting

It’s depressing. The apathy is there to see. Just feel resigned to another year on tender hooks.

It’s not surprising really.
We’ll win a few, lose a few, I don’t think relegation is on the cards this season.
We’re a mediocre 4th division team, with a mediocre manager, and a Sunday league chairman.

There's no defending what Aspin does with us away from home. I think most fans would prefer us to go gung ho and occasionally get thumped but at least regularly score goals and worry teams than meekly looking for a 0-0.

His post match interviews are tragic. Clearly his priority is not to concede rather than try to score and that's no way to get out of this league. He bemoans injuries, but of those injured only Manny and Monty would be starting so it's nothing every other club has to deal with. Aspin himself said he watched Grimsby play well at Carlisle so it's baffling that he then picked a team of cloggers, almost mimicking Carlisle.

Play any two or three of Dodds, Whitfield, Kanu or Miller and play it on the floor. Maybe even rest Pope if he's half fit. Don't just go there for a 0-0.

There's no point getting rid of Aspin because that just means another Norman appointment.

Even more baffling him setting up for a 0-0 when you see that our record at home before this was P5 W0 D1 L4, Scored 3 Conceded 11.

The away issues have been going on for years now, arguably since promotion to league one when we only lost 4 away games all season... (guess what! We attacked teams that year home and away!)

Page was negative away and Aspin is the same and Brown was useless home and away but neither learnt. Bruno had a relative go but we got panned most weeks as he tried to play carpet football and we’d get done by the better sides pressing us at their place.

We actually had a go at Crewe and got a result... so why revert back.

Thank god for my kids coming along these last three years and limiting the pain of away travel for me! It’s no surprise those that go week in week out are losing it after games with Aspin.

We need to decide what we will do with Pope too. We can’t keep playing him when he’s not match fit! As with last season it needs sorting as it isn’t helping him or us at the moment. He isn’t training so how can he be remotely match fit? Guess we will try and limp through with him until after the Notts County game maybe and try and sort it during the two week break limiting the games we would miss.

Not sure if it's true but apparently we've scored five goals from open play all season (that is not from Pens, Corners, Fks etc).

If true, very worrying indeed.
