That time of year again! Everyone madly rushing to fill in the holes and paper up the cracks that have become apparent in the season to date, or just looking for that one big signing to give them that boost in the push for promotion, the playoffs or just survival.

Notoriously it's a difficult time to recruit effectively but, in an ideal world, who would you hope your club can nab in the January sales? What positions would be the main priority?

From a City point of view:

1) A big man to go alongside Kodjia, a younger Wilbraham if you will. Maybe a Matt Smith type or possibly someone like Kermogant from Bournemouth

2) A keeper as competition for Fielding. Preferably an up-and-comer from the lower leagues, Bentley and Adam Smith at Northampton and Ingram at Wycombe are names that have been mentioned

3) Get Bennett tied up on a permanent deal, or if not another man in at RWB.

4) A creative midfielder, badly need someone who can pick out Kodjia's runs. Freeman has struggled with the step up and Reid clearly not considered up to it.

5) And a defensive mid. Actually think Smith and Pack are adequate enough in there but we have absolutely no cover just to offer something different, and if ine of them gets injured we're fucked.

Then, if I'm being really greedy, if Moore leaves as expected it would be nice to have another CB in as backup. Also a left sided attacker, just to give us more options and that bit of freedom in terms of formation.

Get most of that sorted and I reckon we'll be fine, only 1 or 2 and we'll have to get ready for some squeaky bum time come May.

You don't want much then....

We need a couple, obviously can only sign loans though.

We've got a left back signing next week, not sure who but should be announced by Monday.

Think we will try to get Gary Gardner back. Also need a striker but think that will be one stretch too far.

In terms of outgoings I think Chris Burke and Fox could go. Burnley may come back in for Lansbury and I would let him go.

 We've got a whole summer to catch up on!

Course we could just go for Gayle, Grey and Maguire again..

We've already signed Mical Zyro, and supposedly bringing back Mike Williamson on a permanent deal. Providing we do that and don't sell any of our better players I'll be happy.

Also a small chance we will get a striker in as cover since Grant Holt has gone back to Wigan. Connor Washington (Peterborough) and Jason Cummings (Hibernian) linked, but I don't think we'll get one.

Well I was gonna say a replacement for Pickford when he is recalled but it looks like we've already sorted that out. I would love us to try and get Reach til the end of the season too (permanent if possible).

Think we need another CB too, someone a bit more mobile than Huntington.

Oh, I'd also send Doyle back to Cardiff and look for someone better.

Desperate for us to sign Jake Forster-Caskey as he's bloody class.

Would say a new left back to replace Lewington.

Don't need a new CB anymore if we can keep Walsh fit.

Probably send Gallagher back to Southampton and get another striker in. Not sure who though!

So only 3 players but apparently we are after 4.

We need a couple. I reckon a left back as cover for Warnock, given Forsyth is out for the rest of the season, and a pacey winger.

We appear to be after a striker though, which could spell the end for Darren Bent.

What I think we need to be in with a shout of automatic promotion next year is the following: (a few in brackets we've already been linked to)
1. A big striker who's good with his feet, to lead our line (Haller)
2. A very quick winger (Shoebesberger)
3. A dominating DM (Piesinger)
4. Left back cover for Bidwell
5. Goalkeeping cover for Button
And we'll need to keep the rest of our first XI

I reckon the majority of that will be dealt with in the summer, as we probably don't need too much now, we'll probably sign 1 at most.

Key to our chances is holding on to Judge. He would be the biggest loss IMO at this moment. I reckon we might just spend quite a bit on a striker as well, would love to get Haller in, think he'd be perfect.

Dean might be sold, as he's said he'll leave at the end of the season, so we might need a loan in to replace him. Otherwise Bjelland will be a fine replacement next season.

I just want to hold on to what we've got. Apparently Burnley have bid or are planning on bidding for Tarkowski and I'd imagine Judge will be highly sought after after his season so far.

A striker who can score and a goalkeeper who can save. Simples.

Keeper is sorted now we've got Johnstone.

An extra centre back would be nice but I suppose that can be addressed in the short term loan market if we get a couple of injuries, wouldn't be surprised if we see the 8 minute wonder, Paddy McCarthy back at some point.

Try and extend Reach's loan until the end of the season, wouldn't be against a permanent deal but I wouldn't be blowing our entire budget on him.

Send that useless fucker Doyle back to Cardiff.

A rapid wideman would be nice as we must be the slowest team in the league, someone who can play on the right of a front three maybe. Yanic Wildschut has been linked previously who would fit the bill.

Byram to stay and Bridcutt to extend his deal.

New striker, new attacking midfielder and a new defender.

Cheers.

To sign someone permanently.....

Given clubs know we were willing to spend £9m in the summer we may get fleeced a bit, however seems Cotts is only targeting players who will improve our 1st team so at least its not like when we were signing useless journeymen.

GK, LB, Bennett, another CM option, ST... so yeah not much.

GK - Bentley would be great but expect bigger clubs to be looking at him, making him #1 could be an incentive to come. Anyway you look at it Frankie needs competition for his spot.

RWB - Bennett signed up would be good business, don't believe Little is up to championship standards, often felt he wasn't really up to league 1 and the way we played. Wagstaff being the other player we used hasn't had a look in at all and Ayling continues to play RCB.

LB - Bryan doesn't appear to be fitting this year, too attacking or what not, Williams and his defensive skills have been preferred but Williams can't get forward for shit and isn't comfortable on the ball. Guess who would be perfect for this role..... Greg Cunningham, so another big thumbs up for how well our summer went.

CM - I would agree with Ciderhead, Smith and Pack decent enough. Pack maybe needs to phase out the long cross field balls but he works well enough within our system regardless of what the booers say, its strange how the player who plays the same roles as the ones before is the one picked out. However Freeman doesn't appear to be a good fit this season, maybe similar to Frankie he needs some competition and for whatever reason Cotterill doesn't believe that to be Bobby Reid.

ST - I'm actually inclined not to sign a target man in January, Wilbraham can work in and out when we need a target man. I would sign another striker who can keep up with Kodjia, give him someone with pace to work with or someone who can get in the right place at the right time.

Half of our business is done.

Aymen Belaid has signed on a two and a half year deal from Levski Sofia. (Happened).

Shay Facey and Luke Brattan will be signing on loan from Man City (Facey poss permanent). (1/2 so far).

We played Man City and Man Utd youth teams in the last international break, so could be a couple of Man Utd youngsters too.

We'll be extending Grant Ward, Farrend Rawson and Tony Andreu until the end of the season but will send Toffollo back to Norwich. (Only Andreu didn't extend).

Buxton, Collins, Halford, Derbyshire and Bowery are going to be moved on. (Halford and Bowery officially on the transfer list).

Wouldn't be suprised if that convict Lenhigan will get the sack or we move on Tom Thorpe aswell.

We need a striker badly especially if Redfearn (wrongly) let's Derbyshre go.

Best bit of business we could possibly do though is keep hold of Joe Newell.

I hope all that is gonna be true and i agree with all the players what need getting rid of, i dont agree with you about Derbyshire though, he's too inconsistent and a big bottler in front of goal, i think league 1 would be about his level. Newell and Clarke-Harris are both worth at least 2 million so it would be nice to tie them 2 down to longer contracts.

Derbyshire notoriously scores the majority of his goals in the second half of a season and kept us up with his goals last year, when he goes to Leeds watch him bag 10/11 goals in. Best finisher we've got at club and can't afford better.

Only thing I disagree with you with about JCH and Newell is the £2m comment. Think that's pretty conservative, for once the club should hold out for big money £4/5m. Young lads with massive potential and as daft as it sounds both left footers which for me bumps up their price abit, rare you find left footers with their potential.

We're talking about a 21 year old who's playing week in week out in the championship and has scored 6 in 22 games this season just under 1 in 4.

Shouldn't settle for anyhing less than what I said.

We had a Bristol city fan (could've been you) the other day say Kodija is worth £10m.
He's not worth £10m, but he's up there with all the names that have gone or been valued at £10m+ so I wouldn't accept owt less for him.

In what magical world is 6 goals in 22 a good return? £4/5 million for him is ridiculous. He wouldn't get in some league one sides.

6 in 22 in our side is fucking miraculous. Young English player scoring fairly regularly in a wank relegation threatened side.

There's not one league one side that would turn him down, talking bollocks. Tony Mowbray would bite our fucking hand off.

If that's what you truly believe then I can't see what your issue is with JCH at that price, he's younger, English (always bumps up the value) and only scored a couple less.
