...would still be supporting your club if they dropped to Leagues 1 and 2 and stayed there?

I wouldn't, lower league football is shit.
Then you're a gloryhunter.
Truth is though,it's not that much different.
The players are generally not quite as good and the crowds are generally lower but everything else is pretty much the same.

No, of course not.

Lower league football, as a product, is inferior. That's why it costs less money and is more abundant. It's simple economics. It's staggering to me that anyone would bother with anything below the Barclays Premier League. When B teams are allowed, the product will improve. I would notionally support an Arsenal B team in, say, the Championship. But no lower.

In what way is it 'having a laugh' to point out that the Coca Cola League etc constitutes an inferior product? It's self-evident. There's a very good system for judging the relative quality of respective divisions. It's call the Football League pyramid. The best franchises rise to the top, and the weakest franchises eke out their pathetic existences in the lower reaches.

I can understand going to see Crew play if it was an economic necessity (eg you are on unemployment benefits) but for most people it just doesn't make sense to willingly pay for an experience that can be beaten by a short trip to, say, the Etihad Stadium. And don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. My dad got me an executive box for an FA Cup game against Warwick or Coventry (?) a couple of years ago, and I just couldn't believe how bad their team was, and their branding in the match day programme was just as underwhelming.

I think consumers are finally waking up to this truth, and soon teams like yours will become a thing of the past. And it won't be a moment too soon.

I'm not falling for it...it's a blatant wind-up.

I went to a lower league game once. There was one food vendor and he only sold pies and Bovril. The stall wasn't well kept and his fingernails were a bit dirty. I had to go hungry, it was an awful experience.

I hope none of the big clubs do fall down to League 2, they can keep their overblown bollocks in the Premiership thanks. :)

Understandable for you to have no knowledge of branding, as a supporter of a student team with negligent global appeal, but it's called the Barclays Premier League. Not the Premiership.

In my opinion "Football Purist" only watches football that is of a "Pure Crap" level of quality.

Good one but my wife is a marketing executive - I've probably heard more about branding than you could ever imagine. :)

Name doesn't matter, it's the same product. Same as rebranding Division 4 to Division 3 or League 2.

Fortunately football at our level is still a sport and not a marketing exercise. I'm happy for things to stay that way.

Been there done that. And will be back there again when Eddie inevitably takes the England job.

In many ways it's better fun and much better atmospheres, the PL stadiums are generally turgid, corporate soulless affairs.

He's only a part-time vegan though, disgrace to the profession if you ask me.
