This has been done to death many times before but the main reasons behind moving are the transport and access facilities in and around SB. It's bad enough with 3-4000 people as it's hemmed in by housing and Sincil Drain. Access has been looked into many times but it's just not feasible no matter what has ever been trialled or suggested. Then there is the commercial prospects, a new build will enable facilities to be used 365 days a year and so garner much more revenue on and off the field. Our chairman keeps mentioning Chesterfields set up with the income streams they get solely from this aspect and that can then get ploughed back into the club wherever necessary. SB is just not used enough or commercially viable to make money on the larger scale with conferencing, retail and similar incomes. A new build out of the centre (but not that far out) will be able to get grants and tie ins with the colleges and universities so it's probably cheaper to do that than to knock down and start again with certain parts of SB. I know a lot of fans will be sad to leave if/when this happens, but if it meant a greater chance of success on the pitch, I would reluctantly say we need to do it to compete more where it matters, on the pitch.
The proposed new site is closer to the city centre than SB is I think.

But yeah, we've basically been told we can't re-develop the Echo Stand (which should have been the same size as the Co-op Stand, but we got relegated in '87 and had to chose between finishing it or staying full time).

The Echo Stand is one of my favourite stands in the league. It's as if they weren't looking which way round the pitch was when they built it.

I know you're enjoying this thread and so am I ;), but you've lost me there with this observation. I don't see anything wrong with it, except that it doesn't run the whole length of the pitch, but it's not the only one in the lower leagues either.

Care to illuminate me please Master SOC?

It's not a dig, I genuinely do like it. I know there are plenty of stands in the division that don't run the entire length of the pitch, however I can't think of any that are less than half (?) the length of the pitch, straddle the halfway line, only have two blocks of seats (?) and have nothing really next to them. It just looks so lonely and sad that I can't help but enjoy it.

Didn't see it all coming when we visited Lincoln last year, but good for them.

We've gone through eight promotions since reforming, and are now pulling in crowds we could barely have dreamed about five years ago. Recovery is always possible!

Your visit was literally just before the crowds went bonkers , we got just under 4000 that day.
We didn't see it coming either, never in a million years.

That's basically me summed up for 5 of our 6 NL years (and a few before that!).

Anyway, I know no-one really gives a shit about this potential new stadium of ours (or the Lincoln Western Growth Corridor as the full development is called) but I'm going to give you a map location anyway. For no other reason that a survey has popped up for us to fill in about travel to SB and the potential new stadium as well.

We'll be the first bit to be completed, which is a good job because it's got a completion date of 2036 as it stands (assuming it starts in the next few years)!

'9' is us, but '10' is down as commercial at the minute, although that might change to us as well depending on what the tie-up with the Uni is for other facilities.

Consultation ends mid-November so hopefully a bit more news then.

So not too far out? Still doable on the train and by walking. When you go to Sincil Bank on the train, if you go to the pubs/city centre before you essentially walk in the wrong direction have a few beers and double back on yourself, don't you? It looks like it's the same here, but instead of walking through the residential area it's gonna be a bit more like walking along the side of a main road? What is there on the land directly to the West of the uni on that map?

A combination of businesses, some of the Uni's sport complex, hotels and student accommodation.

Yeah, will still be walking the wrong way into town but it works out closer

The nosey parker and the brayford pubs will benefit if and when this ever happens.

I never really got the student argument, I went to uni in Manchester (still live there) but never had an inclination to go and watch either of them live.

Instead, I leave home at half 7 for a "home game" - though that is to get to the pub for 11.
I think I went to about three Sheff United games in the 4 years i was at Uni there, usually on a Tuesday night when they did a special offer so it was about a fiver. Unsurprisingly I went to far more Lincoln games in that period. I think students are hard to rely on for regular support but maybe I'm too wedded to my local club, whereas I could understand how a Prem-supporting type might start watching Lincoln as realistically they're not going to see many Manu etc games live.

Also the bit someone mentioned about locals going to Lincoln could have some truth. When ibwas younger it definitely had more 'local' students than the more established unis. With tuition fees having gone up and the range of courses increasing at Lincoln Uni I can also see more students staying with mum and dad to save money and going to Lincoln Uni rather than elsewhere.
