I'm surprised the owners acted so swiftly given how much time they gave Jackett but I guess the new CEO and Sporting Director don't want to waste time.

It's such a shame it has ended this way. The Cowleys are genuinely good people who understood the ethos of the club but there was absolutely no way they were going to survive after one win in 14 league games and the debacle yesterday.

I wonder who will be chosen to salvage the season...

There was no way he could survive after sunday. I've never heard a manager get that amount of abuse.

It all went so badly wrong after such a good start this season. The Cowleys had bad luck with injuries, particularly in midfield, but no management team can survive such a dismal run of form and the fans had really turned on them.

Likeable and very hardworking but it just wasn't happening and so we move on. The timing of the dismissals makes sense as we have 12 days before our next League game and whoever comes in will have most of the transfer window to try and do something.

Away to Spurs on Saturday :surr:

I've loved having the Cowley's here for their infectious enthusiasm.

But their stubbornness to get best value for money, and their supposed forensic analysis of potential transfer targets meant that instead of the summer transfer window (their third) feeling like they were finally getting their squad rebuild complete, we were left panic buying players at the 11th hour and spent much of pre season with a very limited and imbalanced squad. There were always rumours that it was the penny pinching Eisner family who restricted their ability to wheel and deal freely, but the CEO contradicted this view, and from Lincoln fans experiences they seem to concur that this approach happened there too. Initial results papered over the haphazard cracks, but the last three months we have looked disjointed and without any actual style of play. A million miles off the attacking, pacy style Danny loved to continuously quote. In the end he ran out of time to ever implement it here.

Now he's left i'll miss the uplifting persona and his obvious desire to do well, but confused whether we've lost a good manager or seen the back of someone who was out of their depth. I wish him well on his next appointment and will look on with interest.

Very early days but the current odds for our next boss:

2/1 Leam Richardson
5/2 Liam Manning
8/1 Darrell Clarke
10/1 Lee Bowyer and Chris Wilder
16/1 Michael Flynn and Darren Ferguson
20/1 Dean Smith
Etc etc

As usual, there is probably zero substance here, probably just reflecting some early money.

Richardson would be a popular choice. He was well liked down here as Cook's number two and pretty unfortunate to be ejected so quickly at Wigan. Dean Smith would surely be aiming higher? Chris Wilder might fancy it. We rejected him before he impressed with Oxford and then even more so with Sheffield United.

Personally, I reckon we might see an unlikely choice based on Andy Cullen and Richard Hughes knowledge of the lower leagues. This is their first chance to bring in their own man and no doubt they've already given it some thought.

Out of that lot Richardson seems the most appealing, always thought he was the main man in the cook/Richardson combo, being at your gaff before probably helps too.

Stevenage have a bright young up and coming manager doing wonders there at the moment. Could be a contender?

Obviously the bookies odds mean nothing in this particular market but regards DC if he were to do it I suppose it'd come down in large part to if Portsmouth were willing to pay some quite significant compensation for him as he signed a 5 year extension last summer with us. It seems that Richardson would be the best fit in so far as I can tell.

Its a little nervy, think he has family in Southampton but you'd hope he would want to finish the job here and is well backed and supported, plus as you say 4.5 years to run on his current deal so would depend on if Pompey would pay the compensation required (believe its a set figure as part of the deal).

If he does go, I would be disappointed to lose him to a fellow League One club, especially one which is below us currently but stranger things have happened so you never know, its the fact he has family there that is causing the concern amongst our fan base.

If he was to go I guess our structure means it wouldn't be as catastrophic as leaving us with Pugh or ending up with Jim Gannon, Crosby is a good option to oversee things after his remarkable form last season in caretaker charge.

That may make him coming here less likely :bg:

Manning is a possibility as our CEO knows him well. I hope it doesn't happen after MK Dons' dramatic collapse this season.

It is, it was a miracle he turned us around in the situation he was thrown in and the promotion was rightly as much down to him as DC (which DC recognised but doesn't seem to be credited with outside of that). I expect we would recruit but personally would keep Crosby if he wanted to be the top dog.

Graham Coughlan decided to join Mansfield in L2 when we were 4th in L1 so this wouldnt be that far fetched.
As soon as I heard Portsmouth sacked their manager I immediately thought of Clarke as I knew he used to live down that area and watched quite a few of their games

Sounds like McCann on the way out from Peterborough. Probably back to Ferguson for about the hundredth time.

I still don't think Manning is a total bust but I think he needs a spell at a club where there is no pressure to get himself back on track. If he couldn't sort our club out I have no reason to think he would do better in a big club with a hell of a lot of pressure on him.

Agreed. He seems like the quiet type and he's pretty young. Our fans are likely to chew him up and spit him out at the first slump in form.

What an embarrassment. Horrible football club and so predictable.

Where’s that Posh prat that was on here a few months back? Gone a bit quiet.

Why dont they just appoint them joint managers and save the bother. Hope they sell JCH though as that will mean we get a windfall

They may as well, McCann will be back in the summer I reckon. Seems to be all MacAnthony knows. May be a limited pool of managers who would do it while he goes around playing Football Manager with signings.
