No why would we be? Oxford aren't actually tearing up the league are they.
I hear Mr Robinson isn't started to be asked questions of.

I dont get it. Have a look at the link. Sheff Wed are the biggest club and seem to pay the biggest wages then Plymouth. Derby and Ipswich are up there. What gets me is how can Fleetwood pay a player 10 grand and Oxford with the gates they get.
The first part, from the Oxford Mail article relates to players and coaching staff. We have a very successful academy, that we've invested heavily into, which is just beginning to bare fruit, with four or five teenagers regularly in our match day squad this season. Mous would be aware of this, and through his role as the club's PFA Rep (and PFA Chairman) would probably know what they are earning. So it's common sense.

On the second part, from Salary Sport, I'm not sure it's all that accurate, and for loan players seems to list their entire salary, not what the loanee club are paying. Having said that, we are about 5th in the League One wage table. Ipswich and Wednesday are the top two, Derby third, then you have us, Bolton, Barnsley, Peterborough, Charlton, and Portsmouth all quite close. We were 6th highest budget last season and have increased it substantially this season. I'm told our budget is higher than Portsmouth's. Plymouth's budget is about 10th, so they're outperforming it, just as we're underperforming against ours. Cameron Brannagan is our highest paid player, but I think his wage is now about £10k per week, not the £12k the report states, and we have several others over £5k. Our wages budget is about £6m to £6.5m per year.

The reason we have the money is that we have three billionaire owners, who have been around the club for the last four years or so, but only completed taking majority control a few months ago. They've spent millions on our training ground, we're looking to move to a new state of the art stadium for 2026/2027 season, so will be leaving the current shithole. These guys are not a flash in the pan, and have invested steadily since 2018.

Oh, and I hope you're not comparing our gates to Fleetwood's???!!!

PS: I think you've potentially got a much better manager in John Mousinho than you might realise.

Budgets in this division are mind blowing when looking at Cambridge. I think we have a budget of around £2.5m-£3m, with our top earning player on around £2.5k-£3k per week. £10k per week and total budgets of £8m or so per year just blow us out the water. It’s not that we’re not close, we’re not even in the same universe.

I said when we came into it that I thought this division had the biggest disparity in wages other than the Premier league and I stand by that after being here for 18 months or so.

As I've said in the other thread, when you see that we don't feature in the Top 100 earners for League 1 (or 2) , our 4 supposedly highest earners have been out for most of the season and 3 more of our top earners out for months (and we have zero loans), it's not difficult to see how we've struggled to compete and how we over-performed last season - planting some unrealistic expectations in the minds of some fans.

It's so accurate and on the ball that it has Southend, Scunthorpe, Bolton, Bristol Rovers and Cambridge in League 2. Coventry, Rotherham and Gillingham are in League 1.

If the figures are "about right" our top 4 earners have been injured for most of the season, 9,10 and 11 have also been out for >1 month, >1 month and >3 months. Our (excellent) keeper for the last few months is on £400/week?

Championship surely has a bigger disparity than League 1 I’d have thought with parachute payment clubs and others going crazy to reach the promised land? I remember Fulham last year it was mentioned Mitrovic wages alone were over 100k a week. Thats probably 50% of our entire playing budget on a single player but plus Cairney, Reed etc in the 60k type range.

Us, Blackpool, PNE probably Wigan, Rotherham are not close to those numbers.

Fans have zero control over what spivs take over ownership - we know that better than most. They seem in a good place now.

The odd bit of that is they've allowed him to be part of recruitment process this month

Completely - if this has been coming (and it’s hardly rocket science to see why), surely the time to act is at the beginning of the window, when a new manager will have time to bring their own players in.

I guess FGR still aren’t totally adrift yet though, but they will really have to go some to get out of trouble.

Junk that tippy-tappy stuff and time for your classic 1-0 grindball manager, keep it tight at the back and focus purely on the result.

Talking to a long term and passionate FGR supporter we discussed the managerial situation.
Glad Birchell has gone - nice fella but above his head in League 1.
We suspect Chairman Dale V already has a replacement lined up and the names on top of our list are the Cowley brothers. Would not be an overwhelming popular choice 'cause their teams always beat FGR but they are proven experienced match winners and currently unemployed.

They didn't seem particularly popular with your lot earlier in the season, to say the least. Would be a good appointment though.

Proven experienced match winners!? We won ONE League game in fourteen before he was deservedly sacked and that was against your lot so does it even count!?

In all seriousness, it might well work out for you. He gave us a huge boost when he took over from Jackett and we won 4 or 5 games on the spin. He could have a similar effect to you if he can find his knack again.

Lets hope the new manager gets rid of the 'pansy' pink away kit that the FGR players wear.
Might look 'nice' but does send out a 'girly' message.
Strong blue would be better.

As said, weird timing so deep into the transfer window and presumably had at least some input into recruitment.

What are Pennock and Hockaday up to...?!

FGR have for nearly a decade competed against Cowley's teams: - mostly when they managed Lincoln.
They have the ability to motivate the crowd and did win nearly everything possible.
Those are my memories of the brothers.
A repetition of their first five games at Portsmouth would almost certainly prevent a FGR relegation.

There's no chance that Cowley would entertain a call from FGR.

There’s no chance of us giving him one either, Vince isn’t a fan of the Cowley’s by all accounts.

No idea who we’ll bring in, could try and prize Luke Williams away from Notts….

Cowley and FGR doesn't seem the right fit to me just based on what they've gone for with the last couple of appointments.

My guess is the best fit for Cowley would be more your mid-ranking L1 club such as for arguments sake Oxford if that was to come vacant. Only picked them off the top of my head as Robinson seems like he has been skating on thin ice for most of the season.

You could be right but out there are few managers with a proven track record that are available.
Vince might be prepared to suck it in and hire a manager who could possibly avoid relegation.
