I feel that the Gas fans will demand a purist of the beautiful game like Barton, none of this physical hoof nonsense.

Could it therefore be time for the return of Ben Garner? :shifty:
As long as its only to put the cones out before the match

Now that Roland Wycherley’s matey and fans favourite Paul Hurst has been sacked by Grimsby, I wouldn’t at all be surprised to see Matt Taylor gone by Christmas and replaced by Hurst and Doig. It’s what the majority of Salop fans are wishing for anyway…
Would absolutely love to see Hurst take over and finish the Job taylor has started, then for us to somewhat overtake you.

Nothing would satisfy me more than being back above the shitheads. On another hand, i'd kill for our derbies to renew if you somehow stay up(not likely given the amount of goals you can't score) and our willingness to go through the leagues.

We were hoping you would do the honours. Ex City he can get in the bin with Cotterill. How long do you need to appoint a manager anyway? :ffs:
Cotterill would be a good shout for yourselves, just location could be an issue

We've been saving the Holden announcement for Halloween I reckon.

Wouldn't want Cotterill. He's been interviewed before and didn't impress with his attitude.

F*ck me. Monk & Holloway are favourites according to our local press.

Monk I understand but I’d honestly rather have Barton than Holloway

Leam Richardson sounds like he's interested in our vacancy and apparently Cowley has had an interview.

Still think we're going to get the next two Cup games out the way and are aiming for a next Wednesday appointment.

What's your gut saying Luke? I still think Bradley from Shamrock Rovers.

Suprised Leam Richardson has been out of work for so long tbh, did a good job at Wigan.

Rather have Barton than either TBH.
I wonder if clubs actually look at who else is available before pulling the trigger on a manager...

Surely Holloway isn't a serious contender for that job? Think his time has passed him by as a manager especially going off his last stint at Grimsby. Other than sentimental value I'm not sure what else would be in favour of that. Suppose some of it depends what profile of manager or Head Coach they want to go for. Might not go down well with everyone but taking rivalry out of it Rovers could do worse than ask Nigel Pearson. He might be motivated to sticking it to Bristol C after he got sacked by them and he is a good manager.

Richardson was up for the Pompey job, but he was getting a huge payout from Wigan which I think they stop paying some of if he went back into work. I think it was best part of a 3 year deal

It's comical how some of our fanbase wanted Barton out and they are the same ones wanting Holloway in.
I was hoping for Pearson before Barton arrived so that would suit me.
We have new owners who we have heard very little from, so who knows what will happen.

Holloway would be a bonkers one, probably better as a DOF for something role now, although hes only 60 he has been largely out of management for a fair while barring his disastrous Grimsby spell.

Maybe one that would suit the Cowley's especially with them having a couple of big strikers and quite a physical squad?

Yeah I always feel when a clubs supporters start hounding the manager (which a number of ours were doing to Crosby after the Cheltenham game) there is an element of be careful what you wish for as sometimes the alternative may end up being worse. I get when you hit a bad spot the manager is always the easiest target but sometimes it's better to ride it out.

If you did get Pearson (and who knows if it would even be a consideration from either side) that would be a terrific appointment, he'd get you at the right end of the table no question. Worth asking the question if nowt else.

I cant say i'm enthusiastic at the Cowley's, knowing the way they play football.
Some others are saying let Mangan take over - if they did that they may as well have let Barton stay as I didnt see any improvement in the last game even though we somehow won.
I dont think Holloway will be good as DOF as I think he would try and get too involved,
Managers job is a difficult position to fill though, they can be awful at one club and great at another, it just has to be a good fit.

I personally would have let Barton have until the end of the season - Someone at the club fucked up the JCH signing which would surely have added points to our total since deadline day.
2023 has been piss poor though results-wise so I can see why they pulled the trigger. His last game v Stevenage at home was a dire borefest

No but Cowleys with a physical squad and big strikers like Chris Martin and Marquis for example may be a good fit, its like our fans crying for Ainsworth despite the fact we have a relatively footballing squad of midfielders, hideous fit for the tools we have as we have no phyicality but they want him as he was a legend as player for us.

As you say its difficult to get right as it has to fit what you have to get the best out of them when its early into a season.

Like "get rid of Page"... end up with Bruno... "get rid of Bruno!"... Get Michael Brown from solid midtable league one to bottom of league two in 15 months!

I actually don't know in all honesty.

I'm struggling to guess what Clive and the Board will do, which I think is partly because no-one has managed to even come close to guessing in their three previous managerial appointments and also because I've got a feeling we might move away from an inexperienced head i.e. Kennedy, and move to a more experienced one i.e. Cowley/Richardson. Obviously Bradley is experienced and has plenty of managerial games under his belt but can he translate his success in the LOI, where he has the biggest budget by far, over here?

Cowley now rejecting Bradford, having been rumoured to have had an interview here earlier in the week, is almost too obvious a move for our Board and completely out of keeping with previous appointments in that respect.

Bradley's season ends tomorrow I think, so if we're looking at timelines then the Bradley link fits but so does the Cowley one.

We're used to it now but in the last, what, four years or so, there's been very, very little that leaks from the Club in terms of player ins/outs and manager ins/outs, things just happen out of nowhere - it's frustratingly annoying for supporters who love a rumour!

Still think the Board are aiming to get the two cup games done and dusted and appoint someone Wednesday to take charge on Saturday against Port Vale.

Our DoF and CEO are in Ireland tonight taking in Drogheda vs Shelbourne.

We send young players on loan to Drogheda, who are now part owned by Walsall's owners, who in turn have loaned a player off us this season, and he himself was at Drogehda last season. Got that?

We're also signing Jack Moylan from Shelbourne in January. And to get the jungle drums beating, Shelbourne manager Damien Duff is out of contract after tonight, as it Stephen Bradley of Shamrock.

The DoF goes out of Ireland quite a lot, the CEO rarely does. It's a weird trip to just go and say hello to our first January signing.

I didn't hear it myself, but the local media think it's unlikely we'll have anyone in before the Port Vale game next weekend.

Be a good signing for you tbh. Just wait for him to tell you all he’s going to take you back to where you belong, in the Prem

What's his managerial style like?

He likes to be one of the lads with the team and he’s very outspoken, unsurprisingly.

Football is generally possession based and attacking.

Be prepared for a lot of unknown loans though, however they nearly all worked out to be excellent additions

Caldwell would be gone from any other club after our last 10 games, but we’re Exeter City and do things differently. Woopee.

Can’t believe how bad things have got but definitely in the Caldwell out camp now. Fleetwood away on Saturday is fooking massive.

That would do for me, Gassy. Getting bored of all these dinosaur managers who keep playing negative football. Hopkin, Bowyer, Adams, Hughes etc.

Seen elsewhere that Bristol City have made a formal approach to Oxford to speak to Liam Manning this morning.
