Spear's back :2thumb:

Some of the Liverpool fans have been getting a bit too cocky in your absence mate.

The JPT, although they'd probably get themselves relegated twice just to win it and do a Southampton and go back up 'stronger than ever'

Does Rodgers maintain the faith of the supporters if he wins one of the domestic cups but fails to qualify for the CL for the 3rd time in 4 seasons?

The squad looks pretty good. When is Sturridge supposed to be back?

The supporters opinions don't matter. It is, has always, and will always be about "The Group™".

I'd wouldn't mind him staying if they pick up a trophy but fall short of a CL spot if they give it a good go but the others are better, no shame in that. It probably won't be good enough for FSG though if that situation were to happen and hence if they don't qualify for the CL, he'll be out. The squad does look ok and good enough to compete, but the business from Liverpool is done, whilst the top four sides will probably strengthen further making the task harder still.

Sturridge returns a few months into the campaign I think, and even then, they'll probably only play him sparingly until he looks 100%.

Saltire are you still "taking a year out" from the football like you said or have Rodgers signings made you more optimistic about the whole affair?

I have dispensed of Sky Sports so I'll have no pay football to watch, and the plan is to watch the odd match on a stream here and there, but I may actually still end up watching as much football as usual! Going to try and limit it a bit though, I really have been watching too much of it the last seven or eight years.

Very sneaky that Saltire. Announce your intentions to give up watching the game as Liverpool appear to be crumbling but succumb to the delusion that always accompanies a Liverpudlian pre-season and simply switch medium from Sky to streams to get your fix until January or so.

Should be back in late August by the 3rd/4th game i think.

To answer your question, it all depends on how the season goes. He has to show signs of progress and a clear plan this season, as whatever we did in 13/14 was destroyed last year with Suarez leaving.

I wouldn't be happy with finishing out of the top 4 personally. So unless we end up winning a trophy (and i'm not talking about beating second tier teams on our way to win the CC or Fa Cup), then he should be on his way out.

I still think that he gets an unfair amount of attention due to how odd he can come across at times. (Rodgers, not Spear…) I think that a good start is a must for them though, I can't see them making the top 4 if they aren't in it at Xmas.

Why not? They have been much stronger in the second half of Rodgers' three seasons and their early fixtures this season are treacherous. If their even in touch with fourth then they've got a good chance, but imo it's pretty unlikely Rodgers will even be there in November.

Short of the first half of the season being disastrous, I'd say Rodgers is safe until next summer. Unless a manager becomes available who FSG couldn't resist approaching.

The first seven away games has to be the worst run of games in PL history. If they get out of it in sixth or seventh and within a few points of fourth, I'd be happy. They can then hopefully put a bit of a run together and see how it goes. The squad is in reasonable shape to compete well.

Yup, Arsenal, United, Chelsea, City, Everton and Spurs comprise 6 of our first 7 away games. Quite an astonishingly difficult start. The obvious upside of that though is the 6 most difficult games of the season will be out the way before the end of November.

Looking at those fixtures, you might be right. I just can't help think he will get the whole season though.

Indeed, it's a clear conspiracy. The footballing authorities are scared of us. They're trying to beat us down but it won't work.

Got to be in a glass half full mood about it as Pags says once those fixtures are out of the road then those are the trickiest away fixtures of the season and we'll know where we stand.

I don't think that's the case for Rodgers, as the last thing he wants is to be under pressure early on in the season because he knows his job could come under scrutiny very quickly, but in terms of the overall season I think you are right - there are positives to getting some of your toughest fixtures out of the way early.

His job is under scrutiny anyway Steven, if he doesn't deliver top four, he'll be out. The owners will give him the whole season though; I can't see them getting all those players in for Rodgers, only to kick him out at Christmas time if they aren't where they should be.
