Is Wayne Rooney good enough to play as a central striker?

Yes, for a bottom half side.

Touch of the Torres @ Chelsea about Rooney. He's played every week for 14 years, no wonder he looks shot physically and like his enthusiasm is gone. He needs to be rested at the very least - it can't be good for his motivation levels to be guaranteed a start every week.

He probably looks shot physically 'cause he's 30 years old and has never really looked after himself. Plenty of players have played week in week out throughout their career without looking like they're approaching their 40th birthday at age 26. I think the real question now isn't if he's good enough to play as a striker, rather if he's good enough to play at all. Not that it matters, he's paid £300k a week so he will play.

He was a much better footballer 12 years ago. Could have been a genuinley incredible player but chose to coast through his career and collect the easy money. Gonna be a sad sight seeing that waster roll his fat ass on the pitch while the likes of Vardy watch from the sidelines this summer.

Obviously different situations here but when Messi's form started dinking a couple of years ago he completely changed his diet and lost weight, it really helped him get back on top.

Rooney isn't 'fat' in the traditional sense of the word but he definitely seems bloated. Whilst it's true that his game was never about sheer pace it seems that his mobility has completely gone. I honestly think that a stricter diet will help him rediscover some form as long as the motivation is there.

Spot the dedicated footballer.

Edit: Also worth looking up former Man Yoo fitness coach Mick Cleggs thoughts on Rooneys dedication to the game.

If you showed any American, with no interest in football, that picture of Rooney and told him/her that he's one of the highest paid athletes going, he/she would start laughing and firing guns into the air.

I don't know why people are surprised by Rooney's form because the guy started playing for Everton first team when he was 16 years old and hit his peak as a player in the 2009/10 season and he has been on the slide ever since. But United for some strange reason decided to pay him 300k a week, and are now they are lumbered with a player who is physically past his best and probably behind only Messi & Ronaldo in weakly earnings in world football, P.S Rooney's agent saw them coming from a mile away and mugged them off completely

Looks like Rooney is already thinking about new career.

Again, he isn't the greatest ever England goalscorer. He's deserves to be up there amongst them, purely because he's scored the most goals, but it shouldn't be forgotten that he has done so in more games than his nearest rivals, for example Lineker has scored only 2 less but needed 27 fewer games to do it. Hell, Jimmy Greaves scored only 6 less but took 50 fewer games. And all but one of the other top five England goal scorers has a superior minutes per goal ratio.

This is a debate that has been done to death though, and it's a bit boring.

why bring it up then?...........like i said previously goals per game mean actually nothing, you can get one guy who scores a hatrick on his debut and never plays again.......he then becomes the best ever player by your reckoning.

Pointing out Rooney needed an additional 50 games to score 6 goals more than Jimmy Greaves isn't hypothetical in the slightest. Another word you need to look up perhaps?

oh right so by you reckoning Forest have a better record than Liverpool in the European Cup?

:milk::ds: After all they have played 2 won 2.

I'll take that as you accept your arguments are flawed once again...........but hey change the subject as always.

You talk about my arguments being flawed whilst comparing Rooney and his England rivals with Liverpool and Forest in Europe?

Go away you imbecile, I'm done with you.

One minute you say it took Rooney more games to score the most goals so Greaves is better striker.......

then i say it took Liverpool more attempts win the European Cup than it took Forest ( played in 2 won 2)

and that's not allowed according to Pagnell logic

LOL LOL

i could say only the last 30 years count................like you tried last time i proved your logic was complete bollox

LOL

Spot the dedicated footballer..

Just noticed this photo. Quite the contrast! Rooney looks different these days thanks to the three hair transplants. It's amazing what a spare £30k can do.

Wayne Rooney has averaged more goals per minute for England than second highest scorer Sir Bobby Charlton.

Conclusive.

His wage was ridiculously OTT even before his latest drop in form so nothing has really changed there.

The problem at hand now is that he remains undroppable - to the detriment of the team and the development of some of our younger players.

Well said, friend.

I'd like to point out that I've wanted Rooney out for years - on TFF I copped a bit of stick for saying as much but I'm some sort of revolutionary soothsayer, it turns out.

I always knew I was.

You were right.
