What did you think to the Bush Doctor album? Not his best, but by no means his worst I reckon.

What did you think to the Bush Doctor album? Not his best, but by no means his worst I reckon.

I found them in a Bilbao record shop a few years ago on hols - hadn't realised how big ska is in Bilbao, with lots of gigs and festivals. The main men are Belgian and there are also Chileans. More recently I think a Colombian vocalist has featured.

I got the Peter Tosh firstly because it was there but secondly because it was one that I hadn't already got on CD. The Keith Richards connection also interested me. I'd never been a Stones fan since the 60's really but after I read Keith's biography I got Exile on Main Street, Vintage Vinos, Main Offender and, of course, Wingless Angels.

I've not had a chance for a proper relaxed listen to Bush Doctor but I like the fuller sound and variety compared to some of the earlier stuff. Not a classic but worth the effort of getting up to turn it over and "..put the needle on the record."

Another Spanish surprise that I can recommend for blues fans is:

Nice tunes. I bet Richards was less than complimentary about Tosh . The Equal Rights album is widely regarded as being his best work, I'd agree too. I personally feel that Tosh was a better singer than Marley, but I prefer Bob's musical sound.

Since Red enjoyed ska with a bit of latin, I offer Los Fabulosos Cadillacs for this evening. I've found very listenable reggae from Colombia and Argentina but Buenos Aires is another port city with a strong ska following. The first track is great, with plenty of drums:
