Cup Final day is on the horizon. Hartlepool have found some form recently, whilst Carlisle have struggled to put 2 wins together. Nevertheless, I'm confident of a home win against the League Two strugglers :)fish:).

A win would put us 1 point outside the playoffs with Mansfield to visit Brunton Park next Saturday. A repeat of this fixture last season isn't welcome, though a similar performance would surely merit a comfortable win.

I seem to recall Pools are laying on free coaches for their supporters, so I expect a good turnout.

3-1 Carlisle
Wyke x2, Kennedy
Paynter (pen), of course.

I can just see that it's going to come down to us needing to win something like the last 5 games in a row to make the play offs and let's be honest even if we did make them we'd just do crap anyway because as hard as they seemingly try we just don't have good enough players, we're going to need to buy many better ones obviously.

So like every other summer, I look forward to us breaking our big ambitious club transfer record of £140,000.

For the match, if this had been played weeks ago I'd of predicted a piss easy win against Hartlepool but they have turned their season around now and are winning games which is something they're not used to! All be it thanks to a shit load of penalties from cheating divers, but they all count.

Love it if we do them after some Carlisle fans on here claiming that this game was a 'free hit' for them and a 'piss easy' three points.

They know it won't be now and we're possibly favourites for their 'derby' clash. I'll happily take a draw though.

Hartlepool are such a one-man team...without Big Billy's goals, you'd probably be relegated already...

Hmm, where've we heard that before? :dk:

You will absolutely not be favourites to be fair. We've been proven to be the better team, hence why people have had this down as a banker for us. You might've hit some form but the league table never lies with regards to a team's quality.

I can't really see you winning it (famous last words), can definitely see another of our season defining bore draws but hopefully Wyke can bag again and get us the win to push us right up to the play-offs. However, given that we really don't deserve to make the play-offs, nor would we win them should we somehow end up finishing in the top 7, I can't say I care too much about getting the perfect result as long as we try and play properly again.

The thing to remember in this tenuous semi-local rivalry is that we already beat you once - even the poor result of a draw here would have us taking 4 points off you this season, same as last season.

I thought this would be a difficult game for us, but now I'm changing my mind... Gonna be a walk in the park 4-0 Carlisle, not even a sniff of goal for Billy. Charlie Wyke brace, David Atkinson and Antony Sweeney to get the other two.

I can't believe I thought that as well, it's only fucking Hartlepool for crying out loud! The most hopeless, embarrassing and shitiest team that exists in the football league!

With a fat lazy disinterested bastard playing up front for them too.

At 90+ miles is this one of the furthest apart 'local' derbies in English football?

We have the same debate every season .

It's not even a local derby, if Darlo were around I would not give two shits about this game. No matter what they say, they do take this game a bit more seriously than us considering they've never had or ever will have a derby unless Barrow come up.

You've got one win in the last six, we've got 4 wins and 2 draws. conceded only two goals in that time whereas you've conceded 10. I think there might be a case to say we're favourites but I personally don't think we are, you are higher in the table and have had a better season. But we have a good chance of getting something that's for sure.

I'll happily take a point right now and you can have your four glorious points off us.

I think most of the rivalry between our teams is based on who denies it the most. Personally I enjoy the games more than others so wouldn't want the rivalry to go but within that I'm well aware that this isn't exactly the most local of matches.

I would say the rivalry, such as it is, began because you started bringing loads of fans to our place. Morecambe are closer to us than you are, and bring a respectable number for the size of the club but not enough for us to want to beat them more than we want to beat the average League Two opposition.

We need to do all we can to kill the mighty Cumbrians chances of promotion. Thus giving us Poolies our precious local derby again next year.

I can see Hignett making some changes for tonights game, which I think may be needed. Woods in for Gray would be one. I hope he doesn't try and tinker with the formation. 4-4-2 didn't work for the Dinosaur, so it isn't going to work for Hignett either.

He also needs to use his subs earlier to freshen things up before the 85th minute. Can't remember the last time I didn't travel across to Carlisle for an away game (pissing work!). Expecting to take a 1-0 lead and sit back and invite pressure. I think we may cave tonight.

Carlisle to win 3-1 after a dominant first half from Pools who take an early 1-0 lead in the second half through Thomas. Then we sit back and invite pressure, and 3 goals in quick succession from Carlisle kill the game dead.

Well it certainly lacked the thrills and spills of previous encounters, but we're at that stage of the season where any three points to keep our faint playoff hopes alive and the performance is quickly forgotten.

A boring match. There wasn't a lot of quality tonight, but we've got the 3 points which was important. I think we missed Wyke.

I thought Paynter was shite and Hartlepool looked more dangerous when Bingham replaced him.

Some of his touches are absolutely unbelievable. I shat every time he got the ball. He's taller in real life.

I accept that we're not going down.

Don't rule it out next season though.
