Never thought I'd make a title based on Nursery rhymes but here we are.

I am very glad we got a win on Saturday as I can't see this going any other way than a Gillingham victory. We haven't conceded less than 2 goals away from home in a game since like March or something. Gillingham are also the leagues top scorers which doesn't bode well for us.

Well we're unbeaten at home so far and scoring freely. We have a couple of injury problems in forward areas though with Norris going off yesterday with a 'weeks rather than days' injury and McDonald struggling in the latter part of the game.

Fortunately our current form striker will be available in Rory Donnelly, but if the other two are unavailable our only other forward is Ben Williamson who didn't even make the squad yesterday. I think we may look to get a loanee in for a month to cover Norris but I doubt they'd start. Might well see a change of shape with a 4-5-1/4-3-3/4-2-3-1 hybrid with McGlashan and Dickenson as proper wingers to support Donnelly.

Something like:

Nelson
Jackson - Egan - Lennon - Garmston
Wright - Houghton
McGlashan - Dack - Dickenson
Donnelly
With G.Morris, A.Morris, Ehmer, Osadebe, Williamson, Hessenthaler and either McDonald or a loan striker on the bench

The amount of pace in that side is pretty scary!

Hopefully we will put in a better performance than we did last season vs scunny as that was probably our worst of the season.

This will be a tough game as scunthorpe have hit a bit of form themselves in the last few weeks, but being at home I'm hopeful of picking up the 3points

3-1 Gillingham

Yeah, we're totally fucked.

We actually look alright at the moment but our momentum is going to be destroyed.

Jackson won't be playing unfortunately.
Picked up his fifth booking on Saturday and has a one match ban.

Got a bad feeling about this one.

We are now missing:
Oshila (injured)
Loft (injured)
Norris (injured)
McDonald (injured)
Jackson (suspended)

This will really test the squad.

It's a little bit concerning up front, Donnelly aside we've only got Williamson as an out-and-out striker, otherwise you've got to look to McGlashan or Dickenson or play one of the kids.

Nice chance for the Scunthorpe fans to see what a town looks like, 30 years after the major employer folds.

It's concerning to a point, but it's not like we don't have the personnel to change shape when you consider we do have proper wingers in the club who don't benefit from the midfield diamond. Good chance for McGlashan in particular to stake a claim for a more regular starting position.

Williamson ans Osadebe in for Norris and McGlashan. Couple of 16 year olds on the bench but other than that some decent options.

Can't believe we've lost that.

Sounds like we played incredibly well and at least deserved a point, if not all three.

Can't believe we've won that.

Sounds like we've played incredibly poorly and at most deserved a point, if not nothing.

Not sure how we won, scunthorpe were definitely the better team through out.

I think the pathetic performance of what was supposed to be a referee spured us on.

By far the worst rest referee I have ever seen

I couldn't make it but listened in, and yes, it did sound like we were extremely fortunate to win (to put it mildly). Our commentators did point that out several times.

On the other hand it's nice to be on the winning side of last minute goals for a change.

Come on you Gills!

Scunthorpe were the better side no question, but Nelson only had a couple of saves to make really (although the one at the end was a cracker). Not going to comment on the ref, everyone who was there tonight knows just how good he was. I hope we appeal the red, as it was a 100% yellow card.
Best wishes to any Scunny fan travelling home - I've been in your shoes many times before I promise you!

Sounds like a "get out of Jail free card" that one.

Having said that, it shows a massive amount of character to be playing poorly, can't field a full bench (16yo filling in), having things go against you (hear the red was laughable?), go down to 10 and yet sill manage to grab the win. No sitting back from this lot.

Feel for Scunny fans. Things can't be going great in that town at the moment. But a few of us from Medway have been there. I finished my apprenticeship at the dockyard back in 82 the day about 5000 others were made unemployed. Pretty damn tough times.

Btw - hearing a lot on our forums about the ref being the worst ever seen here. And apparently completely one-sided (to Scunny).

Now, doesn't often happen after a win. So, Scunny fans that were there tonight, what's your take on the ref?

I'm the only real active Scunny fan on the forum and I wasn't at the game. So, I have no idea what he was like.

The referee was so one sided towards Scunny, giving us nothing the whole game, that when the winning goal went in, I just couldn't believe he didn't find some excuse to rule it out. He didn't look very happy as he'd obviously had a bet on Scunny and lost it.

Fucking hell that tackle by Wright is not pretty, can't go studs up on the ankle like that.

That free-kick that you scored your winner from is incredibly soft.

It's not a red card. Not even close.

The free kick that led to the winner was a clear foul, and it was one of very few decisions the ref actually got right last night! Donnelly probably went home black and blue from all the elbows and knees flying into him from Mirfin in particular. It says a lot that even though we won the ref had to have a police escort off the field to a chorus of derision. He was an incompetent fool.
