Well not sure what to make of this one. I suppose only time will till. Strikes me as a cheaper option and one that I have a gut feeling that wont work. Having said that I said the same about ranieri!

I think him working with Gardiner could work let's put it this way I prefer this appointment to the Hockaday one.

But to add to this a couple of people have had their say
John Eustace himself - http://www.harriers.co.uk/news/arti...ts-to-his-aggborough-appointment-3073315.aspx
Tony Pulis - http://www.harriers.co.uk/news/arti...led-by-his-ex-manager-tony-pulis-3073517.aspx
Steve McClaren - http://www.harriers.co.uk/news/arti...ment-of-john-eustace-at-harriers-3073451.aspx

The way I see it every manager has to start somewhere and you look at Nicholson at Torquay and he's done very well. And with Gardiner's experience at the level to help him (if he joins) then I think it's a smart move.

You never know with these sort of appointments. He's certainly been around a lot of decent managers. Will he keep his registration as a player? Could be quality in midfield!

I wish but it seems his injuries have taken a toll on him if it came to it and we had injuries I'd love to see him line up.

Kiddy to ROMP to the National North next season.

I'm laying on, they seem to have turned the corner, a lot more positivity around now and some decent players under contract. They should no way be at that level, and wont be for long imo.

Shaun "feed the goat" Goater has applied for our vacancy.
Not sure what to make of that.

Good luck to useless Eustace.

Does raise questions about whether he got given the job on merit - or solely by being 'in the know'. McClaren is close friends with Gordon so getting him to raise a glass to the appointment of Eustace only gives Gordon a bit of credibility.

Sceptical, but hope it works out. As said above, these appointments can go horribly wrong, or wonderfully right. By living with a budget we can only afford, I guess our options our options were limited. I think we need someone like Gardiner to help him out though, sounds like a bloke who knows the area inside out.

The whole set-up sits uneasy with me though, granted we have got a decent spine for next season, but if Gordon is going to have the final say in the transfer market then I can see further tears. I feel Gordon has emphasised giving our academy players too much of a look in - its nice to see them come through, like Maxwell, but the balance needs to be right.

In honesty I don't know what to expect next season, but one things for sure, after nearly 2 seasons of seeing us get beat every week, I expect us to be competitive and at the very very least, challenging for a play-off spot with all this fighting talk and biggin' next season up from Gordon/Brown.

Full time squad, Eustace - so many gambles next year. Be interesting to see which way it goes.

Wasn't there talk of Eustace joining us last summer?

Some good teams down there and a lot of money too. I'd like to see Kiddie back up soon though.

I don't think we'll walk it, I just hope we compete.
I hope you're soon back. I've got some friends in Bridgenorth, who I call on once a year or so when we play you.. I hoped thatTelford would bounce straight back, but look how that turned out.
May be difficult.

To be fair there's always baggage with managers. You appoint an up-and-coming guy and he's generally not been tested at the level. You appoint someone who's done well and had a few failures more recently and he's judged by the failures. You don't tend to find a guy with a good track record without baggage. Unknown is as good as anything in this case.

As for the balance with the academy - you're pretty much tying your hands to it by staying full time. Youth is how you balance the books, with players who don't demand as much money to be full time. Guys who don't have families to support or possibly still live with their parents to support their careers to give them lower wage requirements. Either that or you need to spend money to be full time...

Intresting point r.e. Full time v part time. If moneys tight a full time squad will consist of youths on the case of stayledbridge or operate a part time squad with more senior players who have maybe been released by full time clubs and have taken on other jobs. Obviously a full time swuad of senior pros takes mega money

Don't understand this appointment, isn't appointing inexperienced managers part of the reason they got relegated in the first place?

No rampant over spending over the past 15 years is the reason. And poor recruitment from Whild at the beginning of the season and the hiring Shockaday. For me it gives a chance for an ex player who is a proven leader in both the Prem and Championship to become a manager and with the help of someone who's experienced at this level in Gardiner.

Does Eustace have any experience at regional level? Genuine question.

Good to see a young manager given a chance, but it could go either way for sure!

In terms of playing or coaching/manager?

Playing, I assume this is his first managerial role? Can't see much on the net either way!

It's his first manager role but I think he's been coaching at Rangers as well. But in terms of his playing career he played a bit for Coventry and Stoke but that's about as local as it got that and he was born in Solihull.
