Rooney has never been as good as a lot of people made him out to be, he's had a single world class season in a United shirt.
And another four or five seasons on the brink of world class.

He wasn't overrated in his prime, he was a fantastic footballer who peaked early. Which Ferguson knew. Playing like you're 23 when you're 18 has a tendency to mean you play like you're 33 when you're 28.

As it stands though, would either Rooney or Fellaini even get back in this Everton side? I very much doubt it.

No they wouldn't. But Fellaini is getting some unfair stick cos of Pogbas lack of great form. Rooney doesn't perform, he's at fault. Pogba doesn't perform, it's Fellainis fault.

Actually Pogba's relatively poor performances are Rooney's fault too. If he fucked off we could forget about a number ten and play a 433 with Pogba in his preferred position.

Epic73 was trying to be funny and not quite managing it there but, in my opinion, Rooney is at fault for a number of the main problems in our play right now. He has been for years but I've beaten that to death.

Currently Rooney as a number ten is stifling Zlatan - a striker who is very good at dropping deep and a) creating and b) pulling the defence out of shape. Were Rooney to fuck off Zlatan could drop deep and play the ball to some of our pacier wingers, get back in the box and be on the end of a chance. Instead he runs into "Rooney's space". He is stifling Pogba by making him play as part of a double pivot which, clearly, isn't his strong suit and effectively puts him on a leash. Not the best way to treat your world record signing, I'd suggest. Were Rooney to fuck off we could switch from a 4231 to a 433 and probably get the best out of Pogba.

He is stifling the pace of the team and the possibility of counter attacks. Both with his lack of pace but more importantly his complete lack of a first touch. By the time he's controlled the ball the move is dead. On the rare occasion he controls the ball well he is usually so far out of position he might as well be a centre back or a holding midfielder. This might be OK if his passing range was as close to Pirlo's as he thinks it is. His only hope now is launching the ball to Valencia which he is quite adept at.

I'd like to see us kick Rooney to the curb and give this a go...

De Gea
Valencia Smalling Bailly Shaw
Herrera Schneiderlin Pogba
Mkhitaryan Ibra Rashford.

Poor old Martial.

He's had a poor start to the season - I can't go around saying Rooney is shit and needs to be dropped while letting young Martial off the hook!

Mr. Jurgen Klopp's opinion on the criticism Mr. Jose Mourinho has received recently...

“Who said this? Four people in Liverpool? It’s bullshit. Rubbish. Who says this? He has started badly at United? They won their first games. So now you are giving B grades for winning?

“I try to play similar football now to my former team [Borussia Dortmund] and when we faced [Mourinho’s] Real Madrid it was unbelievably difficult to play them. If you want, you can say this and that about his players and my players. We have influence as a manager, of course. During the week, I would say a big influence. On match day there is still influence but not as big as during the week.

“He knows how successful football works. To like or not like the way he plays, why should he care? He has won the Champions League more times than I have played in it. That’s how it is. How can I say who is on the way here and who is on the way there? If I lose against Manchester United you will stand here and ask me: ‘So … what about your ways?’ I am not interested and absolutely not part of the group that says José Mourinho was or has been a good manager.”

Since all the United fans have gone missing, which is fine, it happens and they'd never mock anyone else for it, I've decided to try to spin this in Mourinho's favor so that at least somebody does.

See, you could say that he's accumulated the exact same amount of points as David Moyes did after 9 games and that would be a fair comparison. BUT, last season at Chelsea he had 11 points after 9 games. United are on 14 now. You can't deny the progress he's made, you really can't.

In line with representing those not here, I'd also like to add this:

"That was a close game of football ... aside from the scoreline."

Well said mate well said.

Jose has lost 14 out of his last 32 games.

It'll be very interesting to see how he approaches Wednesday's game. They could do without the League Cup, but they could equally do without taking another beating. Particularly against City and Pep.

To be perfectly honest though, while Mourinho might very well be the wrong man for the job, the rot seems to run deeper at Man United. They buy class players and make them look shit systematically since Ferguson. Di Maria, Depay, Pogba, Ibrahimovic to name a few. What they lack is that spine of players who give a fuck, who play for more than just the paycheck and the commercial deals you get from playing for Man United. The team has no identity, and that won't change over the course of a season or through sacking yet another manager.

Not sure that's true unless this is inaccurate. It claimed that he'd lost 14 of his last 32 after the Watford loss, and they've won 4 of the 7 games since, losing 1 which was today.

But isn't this still technically David Moyes' Man Utd?

It could still be accurate though, if he won 4 and drew 2 of the first 7 out of the 32 including the Watford game.

It'd be weird as fuck though, it's not like 32 games is a standard sample.

Okay, idk what that tweet I believed was on about then.

Quick bit of maths - United, 4 losses out of the last 13; with Chelsea, 11 losses from 24. 15 defeats in 37 games I think.

I see that thread got closed down quickly and the dissenters views were quashed. Interesting; already a schism is opening between Utd fans, we should all monitor this closely.

The Humiliated One.
I prefer "The Special Once".

Yes, I have personally monitored the caf for many years and I of course volunteer to continue to do so as it is in everyone's interest that the views of sensible United fans are represented on this forum. That they try to censor sensible views is merely the beginning I'm afraid, and I will keep you updated.

I don't get this idea that it's something great to have a manager that's universally despised. Not that I think Mourinho is, but even so I don't know why you'd laud up having someone perceived as a bellend in charge.
If the dislike of him is all down to success then I suppose I can see it because it's more sour grapes from opposition, but that's not the case with Mou.
Bottom line is most Man U fans would rather Klopp had been the manager. He's a great manager and is irrepressibly likeable . By and large what we see of Mourinho is just his public persona. He likes to pretend he's a philosopher etc. I think it's way over the top to call him vile. I saw an interview with him once and he was asked if he felt under pressure, I can't remember his exact words, but it was something along the lines of I'm not under pressure, real pressure is not being able to pay for your food and bills etc. Stick a microphone in front of him and most of the time he's twat, but in private life he's probably a nice bloke. Can't understand why some Man U fans get off on having a manager whose public persona is that of a bell end though. You can't put it down to envy either. At present Liverpool ahead of Man U in the league and they've got a manager who actually knows what he's doing.
