Not sure Mourinho is what United need. His European successes with Inter and Porto were not very relevant to United as those were with dominant teams playing in minor leagues and qualified to Champions League.
IMO his greater achievements are his first spell at Chelsea and his La Liga title winning season. But let's not forget that Real were the team with the biggest spending power and always an attractive destination for the best players. Who can United sign this summer? Those China bound
unambitious guys?
And Chelsea's situation before he took over in 2004 was also much better than where United are currently, as back then there was only United who can compete against Chelsea in the transfer market, and top PL clubs (both United and Arsenal) were in a transition period, and Chelsea already had their two captains in Terry and Lampard who just began to enjoy their best football and were loyal to the club. United on the other hand, have to compete with four better teams with Rooney captaining them.

For people saying it should be Higgs, it would make me happy as an Arsenal supporter. But what makes you think Giggs isn't doing something now that he would do as manager?

There's no way Pochettino would turn down United, if you look at his history he is very career driven over loyalty IMO.

If I was United I'd go for the Poch ahead of Mourinho, he's far more fitting of United's "values".

I reckon Mourinho is the only manager out there that has a chance at turning things around at the Mancs, but even then i dont think he will be as sucsessful as he was at Chelsea. The manc job is gonna become the hardest job in English football, even harder than the national team. So much expectation.
