We got a bye in this but to be honest, could've done with the game time for some of our fringe players/the ones who came in late who didn't have many preseason matches. Still, it's a week off so you'll find me in the Round 2 thread, still not caring about this waste of time of a competition

We got through.

Which is nice.

(until we get drawn away somewhere unappealing)

Not a single crowd above 3000 in any match. What a waste of fucking time this competition actually is.

Maybe a win in this may kick-start you again in the league......it can be crap, but winning is a habit and some clubs, especially big ones can sometimes need this to kick-start in the league after afew years of negativity.....Southampton a good example or Bristol C.

Maybe so. I personally just can't get motivated in any way at all for it. Last night i made absolutely no reaction to scoring or when the winning pen went in its like being at friendly games.

Dont really buy that it'll kick start your campaign, Southampton and Bristol City were well on their way to promotion by the time they won the JPT. Especially when you make 9 changes like we did.

Even Hartlepool fans comments (pre game) were about the competition being meaningless, although I can appreciate it holds some value as a cup that can realistically be won for plenty of teams. Its just you e got to be in the final for it to really get you excited.

Not sure about it being a money spinner either, again, unless you get to the final I cant see it holding any value.

Seeing as League One is predominantly northern, the southern section of this looks incredibly weak this year as it's mostly league two shite. We should do fairly well in this fingers crossed, we seemed to take it seriously last season so no reason to think we won't this time around.

An irrelevance? Until last season I always thought it was.
My mind was changed by the experience of seeing my team at Wembley alongside 30,000 other Saddlers.
Something I doubt I'll ever see again.

It is the only fooking chance we have of getting a close away day I think we had a third of the crowd at Newport last night.

Yep. We had 480 out of 1,434. Cracking turnout from us although I expect a lot of them went to see the comedy line-up we had to put out.

Actually played very well albeit against a woeful Newport side.

I am sort of hoping we will cling on to your coat tails on the way up to the Championship:2thumb:

Don't be so confident we will do it. I must admit i think we are in with a very good chance at winning the league but this is the biggest fucking let down bottless bastard team in the country were talking about here so theres a good chance we will end up in the playoffs again. And the inevitable will happen.

Wigan at home in the 2nd round. Happy with that, given what I saw last Saturday, we have a reasonable chance of beating them. Tough tie though.

Rochdale away.

Not the easiest tie but the new trend is that we get to the Final every other season, so just the southern section to decide now.......

After a bye in the last round weve drawn Barnsley at home. But seriously who gives a shit, the only thing this comp is good for is giving game time to fringe players

Easy home win.

Scum haven't beaten us for over 15 years. Last four games = four Oxford wins.
