I may be wrong and hope I am but don't think that can now be done.
I'm not a member of the legal profession, and would never claim to be an expert on the law, but isn't there something called double jeopardy which stops people being tried twice for the same crime?

I'm not sure if there is a clause in that law that might be applicable here, if there were sufficient evidence to prove that what was tried as a serious assault had become manslaughter. It shouldn't be too difficult for any court to prove that this sad death was directly linked to the original crime.

All we want as footy fans is to go to a game, cheer on our team, then return home safely afterwards. Sadly that was not the case her...RIP mate.

Believe the double jeopardy was scrapped.

That was in the light of the Stephen Lawrence case, but think it only applies if the scuzzers are acquitted then new evidence comes to light, not if they've been convicted but you want to change the charge. Not sure if that prevents a whole new charge of manslaughter though, as if it was a separate incident.

I've been looking and the only thing I can find is a case from 2001 when a scumbag's conviction was upgraded from one for assault to manslaughter after the 67 year old he'd absolutely battered passed away.

I'm sure that more than 99% of us will agree with that.

5 now arrested for Murder since Simon Dobbin passed away which had a direct link from his original attack.

I didn't think it could be done but so pleased to be wrong. Justice needs to be shown to be done, not only for all of us soccer fans(including Southend) but for the country. JFS - Justice for Simon.

That’s great news that after this period of time that’s potentially happening.

a good friend of mine (sean revill) held a raffle etc to help him when he’d been left in a state where sadly he wasn’t ever going to be able to do what he was able to before the attack and hopefully that helped him.

Clearly those responsible will hopefully face punishment.
