Jackett is a good shout actually, think he would do well with the players you've got.

Any decent manager would do well with the basis of this squad, there's talent there but also some massive holes in the squad that need filling this window. The timing of this is pretty spot on for me.

Had to happen.
If we are going to get anyone in during this window it is better that it is the new manager's players.
Good move.
Agree with Jackett, would be a good appointment.

For me, Rowett or Hasselbaink, more so Rowett, whether he's out of our league or not I don't know, but Edinburgh going is the best news of 2017 already!

Ashame as Edinburgh had shown nothing but promise until now and did well last season. I suppose it had to happen though if the team had gone off the rails in the last year or so.

The names are the ones we have mentioned but realistically most are likely out of our league and Gills.

Jackett was favourite for the Barnet job yesterday, so not really out of our league.

They've done very well in the non-league, but so did Mark Stimson. Can't see us going down that route again.

As if Rowett would drop down to League One :ffs:

No offence but our fans want LJ sacked to get Rowett in, I don't even reckon he'd join us let alone Gillingham.

I didn't say it was particularly likely, but unless you're a close, personal friend of Rowett you honestly have no more idea that I do whether he would consider dropping to League One.

I agree I think Rowett is impossible, he was linked with Swansea recently and there will be Champ teams after him for sure.

Hasselbaink smacks of someone who did well with a squad that he inherited, continuing good work while being unable to build something himself.

Got to be Jackett or Coterill, I don't think either is unrealistic. We've got a decent squad and a generally patient chairman. Jackett is a London lad and I reckon would jump at the chance to move back south, while Coterill knows Jet and Wagstaff well and could get the best out of them, (Jet mainly)

Apparently Hess was in the stands yesterday, I hope to God that's not an option.

I can say pretty confidently without being a personal friend of Rowett's or even knowing him that he wouldn't consider an offer from Gillingham.

Please god no!!!
I wouldn't mind Chris Powell, always thought he was quite harshly treated at the Spotters and Huddersfield.

I hope not too.
I very much doubt it though.
Pennock is the early favourite at 1/3. Not sure I would want him either to be honest.

Agreed, as much of a legend that he is I'm not really in favour of us going down either the ex-player or non league route again anytime soon.

I'd caution against Jackett to be honest. Good manager but more about organisation and percentage football. With the talent in your side I think a more expressive and adventurous manager would be a better fit.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Wise given a go. Did well with us before it all fell apart spectacularly. I'd actually see him as a better fit for your squad than Kenny.

Doesn't Jackett usually do well but on a budget? Wolves had a massive budget, some of our fans want him but seems to want a fallen giant role more than a med sized league one club like us/Gills.

Just seen on the Bruno Ribeiro thread that apparently Jackett can't take another job until the summer as part of him leaving Rotherham? Have no idea the validity of this source though.

If that's the case I'm putting all my eggs in the Steve Coterill basket! Especially as our director of football was Bristol City's director of football when he was there....

Had a decent budget with us last time, but nothing like the Leeds/Forest/Southampton/Wolves budgets that we were competing with at the time. Tends to get the most out of what he has, but sacrifices a lot of flair to be solid. Don't think that'd suit a very talented Gills squad. Feels like it could be a bit of an LVG at United, albeit on a much smaller scale.

He was last at Rotherham so not so sure that's the case.
