He may well be right, but where do we go from here? Why are the players so weak? Do they not care about the club, or do they not want to play for Keith Curle, or are they so demoralised that they don't even want to play for themselves.

Is it Graham Kavanagh's fault for bringing in players with the wrong attitude, or is it Keith Curle's fault for turning players who do care into ones who don't? Or it is the fault of others at the club for the way players have been treated. Could it even be the fans fault for being too quick to turn against players if they put in a poor performance and leaving players with the feeling that they aren't wanted. What is he planning to do about it? He says he wants to arrange a forum with the players and a group of 50 fans to allow the fans to tell the players what they feel, though I imagine they might have some choice words for Keith Curle as well unless he hand-picks the fans to be supportive of him.

As much as most fans have been on the players' backs for not caring about the club for two whole seasons now, is drilling it home to the players really going to help? Can players, many of whom have come up through our youth system really stopped caring about the club, or does Curle have specific players in mind that he won't name, he hopes the fans will name them for him.

Saying this on our forum might not get much agreement (it's been said before on occasions), but I believe that no matter how negative things get, short of shipping out all the negative elements (which we can't exactly do), the only solution is positivity. Making things even more negative at the club by airing grievances in public and encouraging the fans to do the same isn't going to magically make players snap out of their funk and start winning games. Cheering them on, whether that rankles with you or not, might just do that. Curle seemed to have this exact same view when he came to the club, constantly calling for the fans to leave their grievances at the door and get behind the players on match-days but he seems to have now changed his tune.

So what now... personally I think as fans we need to just ignore this side-show (well limit it to talking-heads discussions on anonymous forums anyway) and go the Dagenham game and pretend we're at the top of the league and a win will guarantee promotion.

His comments are getting quite a bit of coverage from the mainstream newspapers now (Telegraph, Mail, Guardian) just in case the rest of the country didn't know what a shambles the club was. I can see why Curle snapped like that having just watched such a shambolic display, when each one of the goals was easily avoidable and embarrassing for the defence and especially Hanford. If only we could have a team of Dempseys.

Can't remember a manager ever coming out with such a tirade against his own players. For me it's a massive mistake and could well take Carlisle down. It's an unwritten rule in football that what happens behind closed doors stays there and he's just broken it. I would imagine he's now completely lost the dressing room and some of those players are going to be absolutely fuming, they certainly won't be playing for him or even listening to anything he says from now on that's for sure. For such an experienced manager to do that is baffling and has probably more to do with him having a meltdown because all that's going to happen is most Carlisle fans will simply reply with the oft used sentence " you brought many of them to the club"

To be fair to him... and not that I'm sticking up for him or anything, he brought very few of the players to the club. He may be directing his comments towards all the players rather than just those to played against Accrington. But of the 14 who featured in that game, only 3 were brought to the club by Curle (a further 3 were unused subs).

As you say the players are even less likely to want to fight for the club now, so it's left to the fans to try and give them a reason to fight. Which for most fans will mean biting their tongues and giving the players a hell of a lot of support against Dagenham.

Sounds to me like he is covering himself should you go down.

You stay up he looks good anyway, you go down its the players fault and he gets another year to put his own squad together.

Our Managing Director has already blurted out to the media words to the effect that Curle's contract is unlikely to be renewed in the event that we go down... Curle is just passing the negatively down the chain, from the MD to him to the players.

Thinks are bad shoddy, todays events highlight the severity I fear. Unfortunately I don't think we are likely to help you out at the Pirelli next week as a win will likely see us guarantee promotion.

No you'll smash us we just have to hope Tranmere and Cheltenham continue to do no better than we are... and probably hope to pick up one or two points in other games.

Kevin Blackwell did similar in our relegation season.. All it did was turn the fanbase against him.

I guess his thinking was that what he's currently doing clearly isn't working, so try something drastic and hope that it works. We've got 3 tough games on the run coming up after Dagenham and I wouldn't put it past us winning one of them as we did against Northampton. All we need is one more win to make sure we're still in with a shout on the last day, and a couple more draws would have us safe I think. My guess for the final point total for relegation is 45 at the moment, with Tranmere and Cheltenham only likely to pick up a maximum of 6 more points each.

Dagenham on Saturday is simply a must win game. If we fail to win, we'll be much closer to the drop and more likely to be relagated as it's our easiest game left. But also because all the fans would turn on the players/Curle, especially if it's another effortless performance.

Truthful comments by Curle, but they will damage the players rather than motivate them. We'll see how they react on Saturday though.

I don't think I could take a must win game against Hartlepool on the final day, but it's looking likely.

Although, despite all the negativity emanating from the club at the moment, if we did beat Dagenham (big, big if) we would be probably 1 more win away from safety. We'd then have 3 tough games against promotion/play-off candidates, but I think on the back of a win on Saturday we might be able to get something from 1 of them.

Think you're almost right. I think he knows we're going down with this shower of shite, so is covering himself for when he gets sacked in a few weeks (relegation termination clause in his contract) to try and save a bit of his reputation.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
I don't think Curle is covering his own back myself, Curle is gone if we go down and probably if we stay up (although he should have gone yesterday in my view a massive mistake....another off our stupid board)

I think this is some massive risky gamble he's trying.....embarrassing his players into a response, it may work and we'll see Saturday but it could backfire big time. One thing at this stage in my view you are supposed to need is some unity and Curle has utterly destroyed that with a big gap between fans/players/manager

I don't blame his frustration, I think all Carlisle fans have got sick of our players dreadful attitude the last 2 seasons and especially now when we play 2 easy away games vs the 2 out of form sides and our players decide to not even bother to work hard, but I just do not think with 5 games left you A: Turn fans on players and B: turn players on manager.....that won't help.

the last 24 hours we've turned into a national laughing stock, that is not going to help at all.

It`s generally thought of as as a divisive and dozy thing to do but Phil Brown did the same at Southend early in the season and it turned them round.

Personally I think he`s shot his bolt, and it`ll be a shot in the arm for us for which we`ll be very grateful for if the miracle happens.

Apologies to the Trannies and Chelts on here but we want it as you are at the end of the season purely from a travelling basis. A lot of people are bored with 10,000 miles a season and York and Carlisle are a bloody site closer.

Phil Brown has a bit of previous with that kind of thing and what worked at Southend was a disaster at Hull (the old teamtalk on the pitch).

In 2002 when i was about 8. Curle signed my stags shirt without me asking and said "keep that it will be worth some money when I'm in the top flight"

Hes not normal is he.

He couldn't stop us getting relegated when watkiss got sacked but he got us to the play-offs in his first season, which was a painful final against Huddersfield. We scored a perfectly good goal and it was chalked off for going out of play, it was 5 whole yards in :( then lawrence chipped his penny onto the par. I think if he had stayed with us and built a stronger team things would of been very different for him and us. He was a decent manager.

In fairness to him, he did get to the top flight 8 years (or something) after signing your shirt.... as Neil Warnock's assistant at QPR.

So he was kind of right :animatedf:

Well this is a first.
http://www.carlisleunited.co.uk/new...s-accrington-post-match-comments-2386765.aspx

A manager reacts to the reaction of his post-match reaction.

With all this reacting causing further reaction you might wonder if a chain reaction has been set in motion and we're heading for a full-scale meltdown... But it seems the control-rods are going back in for now.

#sellafield

This time around he's being fairly sensible in what he says, no bricks, no lipstick, no toilet bags, no shorts, just an explanation of why he said what he said, and that the players knew he was going to say it. I only hope this mad gamble pays off and we see a... er... reaction, in the Dagenham game.

It may not be pretty to watch but it is getting results, the brick and lipstick treatment is getting points on the board which at the current time is what Carlisle United need. What are your thoughts now on Keith Curle's outburst ?
This was his interview after the game at the Pirelli stadium on Wednesday evening.
