Think I saw they have up to 5 who can/will be called up
Now confirmed.
England U20s dont have a game so Vale and Cox would have been fine, so must be all Readings. You would have thought they could have done with the extra cash...

We’re due to play Burton that weekend and they’ve put it on sky which raised many eyebrows as it has to be one of the least interesting games in League 1 that weekend. However it’s looking a more and more inspired choice as it might be the only game on!

Clearly studied both squads, its why they get the big bucks. Plus the rest of us will be watching now so win win for them

Week before isn't it as we have Burton?

A fair few would have come through via their Academy I think, but could be wrong.
Yep fair point. I was too lazy to see who they are and if they are regulars. We will still take loads but not as many as a Saturday

Strange one, but with NML in the Guatemala side now then I'd imagine he's one. Washington the other, but can't figure the third out - Cashin, maybe? Would be his first call-up. I think Hourihane is finished with the Irish national team. Darren Robinson is in the first team now, too, who will be going with the U21 side. Not sure if that counts.

Think we could have a few called up. Leonard and Bowie for Scotland U21’s, Hondemarck Ireland, perhaps Thompson for England. So probably works well for us too although doesn’t seem the worst time to play you lot!

This you can call a game off if you have 3 international call ups is a farce yet if you have 8 players out injured and 2 suspended you still have to play.

Not sure whether Oxford will have (m)any called up, but it'll be a maximum of four at our end looking at the squad - Roughan, Duffy, Hackett and Gallagher (the latter being a young lad but I imagine if he's got a first team shirt number, the age of them doesn't really matter).

Very impressed with your use of (m)any, never seen that before. Stealing that!

Nope, not at all - we’re pretty shite at the moment and the new signings bar Waghorn and Ward haven’t really impressed or been given a chance. Ward is injured for two months too.

Fingers crossed we’re a lot more settled when the replay is played, but who knows. If I was a fan of any side in this division, I’d fancy our chances against Derby in their current state. A few additions will hopefully help that, but we’ve kind of proven that we’re pretty poor at the recruiting side with our work this summer.

This postponing games for call ups rule needs scrapping. It's utter bollocks. What's the point in having a squad if you can call a game off for having 3 players unavailable? Yet if the same 3 players were out through injury or suspension, the game would go ahead? How's that work then? Incredible logic.

I agree, just play it as it lies. The clubs involved can opt to play the game. Quite often enforced changes work for the better. I can see why clubs dont want to risk the backlash if they played on and lost though

It's a shame to see isnt it :fl: , surprising though as they picked up a bit last season
Anyone can have a new manager's bounce. The problem with Garner is when he has time to think and plan, then it all goes tits up

Aside from the bitterness and arrogance he and his Swindon side had against us in the play offs (ironically turns out that was all pinned to the dressing room wall ahead of the second leg) his Charlton side were dog against us last season, pass pass pass on half way, had their first shot on target in the 93rd minute and he rambled on post match about us being anti football (despite scoring a beautiful goal) and that 70% of clubs in L1 are anti football... all this after his side spent 90 minutes pinging the ball between their back 3 in their own half.

Strange one. Colchester have invested well and should be doing better.

Never get the fuss with loads of slow possession football, I used to find Barcelona or Spain boring because of it.

The ones that have a good chance of being called up for us (assuming the respective countries/age groups have a game):

James Beadle
Ciaron Brown
Mark Harris
Fin Stevens (Welsh U21 Vice Captain I think)
Stephan Negru (Ireland or Moldova will be looking to try to call him up now)

I'd assume the top 4 will get called up. There may be others who have been standby for age groups who may get selected like Gatlin O'Donkor with England u19s in the past but obviously far less likely.

That also doesn't include Greg Leigh should that transfer go through and I don't know how close he is to getting into the Jamaican squad.

I personally dont think loan players should count as the 3 required to call a game off. They are someone elses players

Oh I didn’t realise. Unless they thought they wouldn’t piss off either team by putting us on the Monday prior to international games the following weekend as we wouldn’t be affected anyway whereas a championship side might push back a bit.

In my top 3 worst away performances I’ve ever seen live.

Disgraceful.

The guy has had 4 clubs in 3 years or football management. At this point all he has going for him is his time at Swindon and the rest he’s been a complete flop.

I was actually quite surprised he left Swindon considering the chance they gave him and how he talked about long term projects

The guy is just a walking talking powerpoint presentation. He is used to coaching kids at Premierships clubs and cant seem to grasp how the lower leagues work.
Fair play for him having a crack at management but some people are just meant to be coaches

The new breed of manager unfortunately.
Unfortunately, if you're old school, you're classed as a dinosaur.

Reading fans, are you expecting our game in October to be postponed due to international call ups?

It'll probably be called off due to us anyway even if Reading don't have the required numbers. Beadle, Brown, Stevens and Harris I'd assume will get called up if fit.

Are there any Reading fans on here?

Anyway, expect it yes. They called off ours in September

There wasn't much international quality on display yesterday by them, but I guess they had a young side which might be called up for the under 21s.
Odd they called the game off before the squads were announced
