Can't understand why if the Premier League are so bothered they don't just scrap the Carabao.
At least we pick our kids for the Pizza Cup so don't have snow issue with injuries as a result of that
Probably be down to us EFL clubs on that one as it’s an EFL competition.

Just seems odd to scrap replays in early rounds if it’s to help teams in Europe who play a second string in the cup anyway ?

I can understand how they did it before with none after round 5.

It’s the part where you see the below on the bbc

In its current format, the FA Cup has no replays from the fifth round onwards, but the FA says the move to eliminate them from an earlier stage has been made "in light of changes to the calendar driven by the expanded UEFA competitions".

In short another fuck you to the lower league teams and more bowing to the PL.

I presume there is no extra money to lower league clubs due to this? lol

Apparently they are going to give some out ..

Not sure how much .

So this is all done for 7/8 teams out of 92 plus all those non league sides basically?

Who will play a reserve side anyway .

I think with the amount of outrage there has been about this today there has to be a u turn at some stage. If the EFL don't discuss it at their AGM then they are very much a disgrace

I don’t personally see anything wrong getting rid of replays we have too many matches and players are getting injured all over the place, most sides don’t give a shit about the fa cup anyway…..unless they draw a side.

Would have liked seeding in the 3rd round to give smaller clubs at least a chance of money to go with replays going which reduces their chances of money.

My only one issue on the whole thing is if this was done to help players I’m for it…….we all know it isn’t because it has been done to accomodate ridiculous changes to the boring dull and predictable champions league group games which waste everyone’s time as only 10-12 teams can ever get through and just adds more Spain vs San Marino quality type games at club level to give more money to uefa

Although it arguably hindered this season with the backlog of games we had its a part and parcel of the game and tradition of the cup, it will severely limited giant killings or scalps where for example Exeter in the past have taken United to a replay (they likely lose that first game if it goes ET as fatigue kicks in) so your lessening the chances (probably why the Prem want it).

Not sure why round 1 or 2 has anything to do with the Prem clubs anyway.

The biggest annoyance is the fact it wasn't even done in liaison with the EFL or National League.

It will surely be U-turned with the anger its caused. Vale have been on both sides of it losing to Chasetown and Canvey Island in replays and beating Southampton, Everton and Derby... coming a penalty shoot out from ending Arsenal winning the double in 98. Great memories but hey as long as the big boys get time to fit in a friendly mid season in Kuala Lumpur or Dubai.

See i don’t think it will be changed now, the FA are under the control of the PL and not the other way, they’re also still petrified of losing the bigger clubs.

For me it should stay the same, i understand the replays being taken out from round 4/5 (whichever one it was) but not in the earlier rounds.

Yeah can't see this being overturned, they don't care about us sadly. It's a shambles EFL clubs weren't consulted on the decision. Replays can be hit and miss, we played Mansfield a few years back at the Valley in a replay and barely scraped 1000 home fans together. This season Cray Valley earned a 1st Round replay against us and that's what it is all about really.

Just a shame the big premier league clubs can make decisions that impact hundreds of lower league clubs and kill off English football traditions for their own benefit. With the BSM and 24 league teams we often play more games than the prem clubs. Newcastle are playing Spurs in Australia a week after the season ends ffs so too many games can't bother them too much if the money talks.

It's especially depressing you have the boards of clubs like Bournemouth, Brighton and Brentford in favour. Not that long ago these games would have meant everything to their fans

4 days after.

This is the thing that sticks in the craw more than anything else. Everyone can see it's just gluttony on the part of the big clubs but no-one in power is prepared to stand up to them.

I agree about the comments about Brighton, Bournemouth and Brentford. It was only a few weeks back when Thomas Frank was saying replays should be knocked on the head. Fuck him, and fuck the lot of them.

- Leave the FA Cup alone.
- Top 3 in prem plus FA Cup winner for Europe so the mid table prem sides like Man Utd take it seriously every season from the off.
- Remove teams competing in Europe from the EFL cup
- Tell Klopp to fuck off.
- Remove B teams from the EFL trophy and go back to a straight knockout.
- 3 subs not 5.

We’re playing about 50-55 games a season and we don’t have nearly the amount of numbers in our squads as these elite Prem sides.

Yep all that Richard says above is what I agree with. We have way more games than the premier league yet you don’t see us moaning about number of games.

In 2014/15, the season after we were promoted from the conference, we drew Man U at home in the cup and EARNT a replay at theirs worth hundreds of thousands. That can no longer happen.

In 2005, Brentford were in £7m of debt and had a cup run which culminated in them getting Southampton away and earning £500k along the way. Brentford have just voted against it.

These teams need to remember where they come from.

Klopp is infuriating with it.

For context now their cup campaigns are over, with their massive squad worth hundreds of millions:

Matches played this season:

Liverpool 58
Port Vale 59

Moaning about fixtures with what he has at his disposal v us having the throw kids into some games at times this season.

On its own I'm not that bothered about the replays, we're all hypocrites, there are very few replays in R1 or R2 with league sides at home that draw crowds 50% of the size of regular league games, and it's probably not a whole lot higher for non-replay games either (we had 2 this year that both were about 50% of normal home crowds, one against a step 3 team and one against a L1 team, proving a high % can't bother getting off their backsides and going in the early rounds). Yet we'll all sit here and moan when Blackburn/Swansea/Stoke etc. only get 5k home fans at home in R3 against lower league teams.

The problem is that this is just another instance of the Premier League wielding it's dominance with the promise of extra cash/threat of withdrawing cash. The outrage now I find amazing when our teams, and a lot of fans as the tournament progresses, have so easily bent over and accepted B teams in the EFL Trophy, a considerably worse crime than scrapping FA Cup replays. And yet people are surprised this has happened....

Of course it's all horseshit as the PL teams will jet off round the world in the summer, despite there being a tournament on in the middle of it. The only question is what will they insist we all sacrifice next, and whatever it is it will happen because people in this country have no backbone to do anything serious about it. Most of the lower league fans complaining about this will be tuning into Sky/TNT/dodgy stream this weekend to watch the Premier League, and not realise the hypocrisy of it at all.

I would bin off the EFL Trophy altogether. League Cup without Europe teams wouldn't work as it would just become a glorified version of the EFLT, the main attraction to half of the 92 of that competition is that we have the chance to play Liverpool, Arsenal, Man Utd etc, take them out and its pointless. As for fixture congestion at the top, reduce the international schedule and European schedule, and restrict how much teams can travel for non-competitive games, that'll fix their "problem". Pipe dream though, of course, professional football is dying.

Well someone is telling porkies as the FA are claiming EFL clubs were involved in the discussions.

Not great when the powers that be are at each others throats.

I still fail to see how getting rid of a first round reply helps Man City.
Please explain that to me.
Thus was posted on our message board - my favourite comment on this subject so far:

“To be fair though if it wasn't for the Scarborough v Forest Green or Charlton v Cray Valley Paper Mills replay in the first round we might have an English team in the semi final of the Champions league and Manchester United might have got out of the group stages.”

When the ESL came about because of backdoor deals, the other 14 PL sides kicked off and now the whole PL are doing exactly the same thing they kicked off about with the FA Cup.

All this bollocks about then being able to start the PL season in mid-August and give extra rest to players is ridiculous because they'll all head off on more/longer overseas tours.

I've always said that the FA Cup should introduce something similar to the FA Trophy where sides can decide whether they want to replay the tie or not. I can completely understand if its' PL vs PL, L1 vs L1 etc and neither side want a replay. In that case, agree to settle it on the day either extra time plus penalties or straight to penalties.

Amazing how many journalist who cover the PL sides are being fed the line about thinking it's *just* about the money. It's clearly a part of it, but it isn't just that. It's the lack of consultation, the PL and FA making a decision themselves yet the PL account for only 3%(?) of all the sides that take part in the FA Cup every season, the fact that it's another thing the PL want to change to suit their wants and needs (U21's in the EFL Trophy) and keep pushing the boundaries whilst being unwilling to agree to a new distribution deal with the EFL, taking decision like this at a time when they're trying to, badly, convince us all that the game doesn't need an independent regulator.

Just had a look to see which PL clubs in Europe had to endure a replay this season.
Only one, Villa who drew at Chelsea.
Worth ditching it all because of one tie a season? And nothing to say they couldn't introduce a rule saying that if two PL teams meet it is decided on the day.

Maybe when Arteta, Klopp etc moan about fixture congestion it might be worth someone asking them when the last time they were involved in a cup replay...

And more importantly how many of them are involved in stupid tournaments abroad just for money.
